New Zealand can be considered the most successful sporting nation in the world. To win 10 gold medals at the Olympics (and 20 total medals) and be one of the best in both cricket and rugby, two of the most popular sports in the world while having a population of around 5 million is insane. It is a concoction of freak happenings which just fell in place not by design but by chance. Look at these factors: First test unbelievably overcast condition so suitable for fast and disciplined bowling. Rohit totally misread them and gave Wellington on a platter. That bowling can only succeed backed by good catching and alert ground fielding. They cameupwith howlers not one not two but too many incredible catches you don't find in one innings. Even if ine of them grassed story would have been different. It hsppens once in 37 years. Don't expectit to repeat. Second test ahain id a self made disaster. Lnowing fully well how we capiluted to Hartly and Bashir last year giving them sevenfer we dug our own grave by not preparing normal pitch with bounce and turning after third day sort pitch. Indians have a bad legacy of every body playing like Dravid blocking as if back leg locked with chain or with cement concrete. They don't movr outin the crease like blundel did. Do you think this formula works. May be inone test but not the series.

@@arnabiitmphy To clarify, NZ & Aus have parallels to Ind & Pak. Both are neighboring countries. In ALL sports we both play against each other; NZ vs. Aus is very much a hot rivalry. For the most part Australia are dominant because they are ruthlessly competitive, skillful, with a depth of population & galvanize themselves especially when faced with adversity or *chips-are-down* game conditions. A cricket example of this may be: -The amazing last wicket batting partnership between Hazlewood & Green of 116 runs. -Or that time Finch went berzerker-mode & chased 244 in a T20, from memory he hit like 40 or so from 13 balls. -Or the fact that NZ have single-handedly extended Alex Carey & Marcus Stoinis's playing careers.. Conversely, NZ are ruthlessly nice & allow opposition back into the game (THIS IS NOT MATCH FIXING sans Lou Vincent & Chris Cairns) It just seems we do not have the killer-instinct required for international sport at times, make do with what resources are available & try our best in a *punch-above-the-weight* boxer analogy (or Biblical: David vs. Goliath). Now this is understood, we can address the "You don't deserve it" comment. Which stems from Australia being so good at cricket, that NZ barely even get recognized as a touring destination. So much so, that despite a few blips on the cricketing radar (Like Hadlee 9-52 at the Gabba in 1985-86) NZ are never given any credit by the Australian public. I am sure there are Aussies seething by some recent sporting results & as a kiwi myself (that has lived in Australia before) I love to rub it in. Auckland FC: 1 Sydney FC: 0 The goal coming at the 97th minute. Netballer's Constellation Cup victories. NZ women T20 WC. Sure we did not beat Australia as such, just picked it from their trophy cabinet. All Black rugby having a 23-year long winning streak for the Bledisloe Cup. And of course, #UpDaWahs for 2025 NRL!

For a long long lonnngggg time, India were being saved by their lower-middle order. India have been in such situations multiple times over the past 3-4 years due to mediocre returns from their top order batsmen. But it was always someone - Pant, Jadeja, Ashwin, Axar - who'd just save the side and get them to a fighting position. And from there, from a position of perceived parity, India's bowlers would get the job done. Always. But this time, the lower order couldn't save them. Some exceptional performances, individually, had been papering over the cracks in the Indian team's performance for quite some time now. And with this series, it has truly been opened up. But in the most unexpected ways. Against the most unexpected opponents. Well played, New Zealand. Truly deserved their series win. One for the ages.

That ‘NZ Test wins in India’ graph really sums things up 😊 I don’t know how Santner bowled for pretty much 2 full innings unchanged in those hot conditions maintaining his line and length ‘with’ variation with his diet of white ball cricket. Our greatest can get injured. Our greatest can be dismissed cheaply. Our greatest can be out of form. Our greatest can have a technical flaw or inexperience. It shouldn't matter because collectively, somebody can take the reins and prove it's not just Williamson with 10 other players needed to complete a team. And it sets up a scenario that he can rest and recover and be the senior member to build the next generation, not the guy who has to rush back to fitness to carry his side.

They have quite a good recent one-to-one record against India in Tests and ODIs and the opposite in the other format that shall not be named, where India dominates.
@rahowherox117726 күн бұрын
Nz also won a series, albeit at home vs that strong W.I.team... with some dubious umpiring. Also beat a dominant Oz, in oz in that series where hadlee took 9 wickets in an innings.

Drawn series against Waugh’s all conquering ugly Australian side 2001, where arguably could’ve / should’ve won, more dubious umpiring in Perth, and Brisbane where had to endure 13th man D Harper ffs 🤦♂️

India collectively as a team thought they could push over NZ and use it as a preparation for BGT. It is the over confidence and arrogance that did them. Forget beating in India, Man to man Ind can win against NZ in NZ as well with this team. So it was very simple in my opinion, NZ knew what we were up to and played it well. They knew we were playing on aggressive attitude instead of application. Test cricket needs application first, understanding situation and time and then an aggressive attitude. NZ played well against India's ego. As much as I'm gutted, I'm delighted that this has happened especially before BGT. It's a reality check. Well done NZ and thank you for reminding us that you can't let your guard down. What now on the 3rd test.....Well Ind will win and order will be restored. But nothing can take away this monumental achievement by NZ.

India can't win in NZ especially rn. Other than Virat who play good pace, bit of Rahul, Pant and Jadeja who is good with the conditions of NZ? Even Virat avg littlr above 30 in NZ. The last time India won there was in 2009 or 2010. In seaming condition, Jaiswal, sarfaraz, Ashwin, Rohit will struggle a lot.
@Ashutosh-lw3cn26 күн бұрын
@@Himanshu_K17 well going by statistics Tom Bundle, Glenn Philips, Will Young and to an extent Devon Conway and Tom Latham didn't had any chance against Indian spinners in India esp after their 2-0 series defeat against SL in SL. So I guess it's important to hold our horses of statistics for a sec and lets just appreciate NZ for finding a way even when all odds are against them. To be fair, there was a certain amount of involvement of luck too was there esp in first test (don't want to discuss much as all of us know that fact) and even to certain amount in this test too (who'd thought Ashwin and Aizaz Patel will be outclassed by Washington Sundar and Mitch Santner 😀). I think it's important to understand that in modern day cricket it's not always about stats and convention. Rather it become more like finding a way to do things which eventually works out.

One of the reason why indian spinners didn't pick too many wickets and it may have gone unnoticed is also bcz of defensive field setting of rohit sharma and medicore slip catching by slip fielders and close in fielders including wicket keeper.

New Zealand winning Test Series in India is no joke they did it in hard way since they are written off by many people after 2-0 defeat against Sri Lanka in last month and New Zealand conquered India against all odds and whitewash is very much possibility

It was down to 2 things: (1) India's rain-affected win over Bangladesh convinced themselves that no matter what the situation of a match, they could turn on the after burners late and still win. (2) NZ's twin losses to an average SL team, and then further lacking their best batsman. Add these together and India took NZ for granted, which _always_ for sportsmen leads to a lack of intensity, a taking things for granted. NZ is up 2-0 because they've outworked the Indians. Also another factor: India's players are stale after playing so much cricket. Rohit Sharma has passed 8 runs only twice in his last 8 consecutive Test innings _at home._ In his previous 24 innings at home prior to this latest stretch, he'd passed 8 runs 23 times. The two teams to hold him to 8 or less? Bangladesh & NZ. Opponents against which he scored 9+ 23 out of 24 times? England twice & Australia twice. Cliff notes for the tl;dr crowd: India is stale, and took NZ for granted.

I think it also depends on the mentality. Jarrod has said multiple times how Bangladesh were more suited and structured to win in India than nz. But did they really believe they could? There has to be more to it than that to beat a juggernaut like India at home.

Kohli averaged well below 30 in 4 of the 5 previous years. Just let that sink in. India had been carrying a player in a position which is most important for far too long just on his label. I don't think any player had a form slump as long and as big as him.

I thought this series was going to be seriously embarrassing for our team. I'm still trying to understand how it happened. Is Mitchell Santner trying new tricks with the ball? He sure is a talented T20 / ODI player, but he's just never been attacking enough to be a decent test spin bowler.

India's ageing stars played atrocious shots often, the younger upcoming stars bore the pressure and failed, and their two star spinners, Ashwin and Jadeja are ageing and more predictable. The conditions were favourable to NZ in the 1st Test? No Jarrod, India won the toss and imploded due to a mixture of shit shots and seriously sensational catching. Even though India fought back in the 2nd innings, Sarfaraz and Pant were very lucky at times, and then India collapsed again. You're spot on with Test 2's comments ... Mitch Santner had a stunning spike of success akin to Steve O'Keefe's 12 wickets in Feb 2017 at the same venue Pune. The Kiwi batters built enough consistently to get enough runs on the board and it was ironic that a player of Indian heritage Ravindra, set up the 1st Test win. You don't know how NZ won? 1. NZ acclimatized to the sub-continent with prior series; 2. India's batting was woeful (T20-Test mix of shots); 3. NZ has a seasoned group of players who have bonded without Williamson and Boult; 4. India has half a team that is past its best (Rohit, Kohli, Ashwin, Jadeja, Rahul); 5. Two freaky events - India's implosion of 46 coupled with four brilliant catches, and Santner's sudden explosion. India needs to rebuild and New Zealand need to believe.

I see a bit differently. The big difference is batting. Too many of India batters did not do well. New Zealand’s did. Bowling wise, I think both teams were sort of close. New Zealand performed well (maybe over performed a touch) and India was decent… not great. It was India batting that let them down.

That's the point, if India were beaten by Australia or England at home, we could've processed that but getting beaten by NZ in tests after sri Lanka smashed them for 2-0 with one innings win. No way. Can't accept it

Indians are pride themelf clever and cunning. if you bring another tall cunning clever spinner indians will be at sea. NZ exposed india's game. The key for me rourke presence. 6' 4 tall and smart and clever and on target all the time. He is the real treasure nz got. Why nz could not win in Srilanka? TIM Southee captaining them. if latham was captain , he would have routed srilanka as well.
@RavishSingh-z1r26 күн бұрын
Its too much of a stretch had not conditions favored in the 1st test to NZ things would have been different & with India batting decline was also one the reason..
