After 9/11, Camp X-Ray, was expanded and modified to house known and suspected terrorists captured during the US and Coalition's War on Terror. Nadine - you asked the most important question - was Pakistani intelligence helping the U.S.? I think they pretended to be helping - but Bin Laden was basically hiding in Pakistan - right down the street from a government military academy. A revealing detail in this story is that when the U.S. special forces flew into capture / kill Bin Laden - they did NOT alert the Pakistan government that we were entering their country. I think it's safe to assume that the U.S. believed the Pakistan Intelligence was hiding / protecting Bin Laden. Not everyone in this world believed Bin Laden had done something terrible. The Pakistan government had its own interests. But I'm glad you four are on our side. Hope you're enjoying your adventures through the U.S. Thanks for posting this one.

Zero Dark Thirty (not for kids) is a great depiction of the events. Also, many of these Al Qaeda members that were interrogated and held prisoner were kept at CIA Black Sites in the Middle East, and not in Guantanamo. Guantanamo is located on a small area of Cuba, the only territory controlled by the U.S. in Cuba. Some of the 9/11 terrorists are still held there. In the Tom Cruises movie, A Few Good Men, part of the movie takes place at a fictional Guantanamo Bay. Great movie-nothing to do with 9/11, but worth watching.

There is a Wikipedia article on CIA black sites, secret locations where the CIA held prisoners mostly related to Al Quaida and other Islamist groups. Several of them allowed the CIA to erect sort-off secret permanent detention sites.

September 11, 2001 was my 11th birthday (yes I was born in 1990). I was supposed to get a Game Boy Advance back then after school but everything was shut down. Don't recall my school telling the class about it which was odd, unless my memory is foggy. I just remember coming home and being asked "Joey did you hear what happened?" Being my 11th birthday I'll never forget. It seemed such a normal, beautiful end of summer day here in Virginia.

Since this is your newest video I hope you see this. Also, since you seem to enjoy American history I thought you would enjoy seeing and reacting as a family to how some of us Americans remember our history. The you tube title "Revolutionary War Reenactment: Battle of Germantown 2015" is about a battle fought on October 4, 1777 and is about 10 minutes long. Also, it is important to know that the house in the video is the actual house from the original battle 245 years before! This was the very first place I reenacted when I was 12 years old (back in 1991).

Recently took my first international trip out of the US with my family. I told my grandmother who hasn't flown internationaly since before the 9/11 attacks that travelling out of the US is way different then travelling within. It took us maybe 10 mins to get past security landing in London Heathrow and roughly the same amount leaving London to fly to Paris. Coming back took like an hour to get through customs and we didn't even have anything to declare and we were in the handicap wheelchair access line which was way shorter than general admittance.

The interrogation tactics that were used and eventually came to light happened at Abu Ghraib in Iraq. GITMO immediately stopped those tactics when several humanitarian organizations started reporting on the abuses. There is so much more, but GITMO was not the only one.

I was 21 working in an assembly plant next to a power station that morning. At one point there were dozens of planes unaccounted for and many were speculating if this was a much larger more organized attack. Thankfully, we were given the opportunity to go home. I did and went home and threw up. Not only did I think I was going to war but i knew my youth was over. I wasn’t drafted but I was right about youth.

The funny thing about this is that when they actually went into the compound to get him, a neighbor about 1/4 mile away posted to twitter about the noise and lights being on. It was the raid happening. Literally broke one of the most important news stories by accident over twitter.

Guantanamo Bay is a U.S. military base/prison in the Southeast of Cuba. It is a super controversial topic in American politics today because of the inhumane treatment of prisoners, a statement echoed by the EU, Leaders of Muslim countries, Amnesty International, and more.

I visited Cuba back in 2019, and I was about 2 hours away from where the prison is located. I come from a US state that gets a lot of snow, and I was not prepared for the temperatures down in this region. I believe the coldest it gets when the sun is up in this area is around 78 degrees Fahrenheit. I would guess that 90% of the time the high temperature is 86 Fahrenheit or hotter. When I was in Santiago de Cuba, the people from Miami were complaining about how hot it is, and they are used to hot and humid weather.

I worked at Gitmo in "03. I'm from Ohio where it gets pretty damn cold. It was over 100 several days and on the hottest day it reached about 107 and it was still like 96° at 3:00 a.m. crazy!

@@TKMars11 I'm from south central Wisconsin. I'm used to getting 2+ weeks in the single digits or lower, and also getting temps in the 90's. When I was in the Santiago de Cuba area, it was brutally hot, and I think it was 96 or higher every single day.

I'll echo what some others have said in the comments already: Watch the movie Zero Dark Thirty. It illustrates how difficult it was to find ObL and why it took so long to find him, and how the raid on his compound took place. It's very compelling and very well done. Maybe watch it without the kids present first, because it's somewhat harsh (although not in a gratuitous way).
@dylanbahret65116 ай бұрын
What’s prob craziest about us getting bin Laden is we had 1 of the helicopters crash land within the compound and yet no one heard it. Quite amazing, though the Khalid come here in to bait him out was pretty wild too.
