As an American, it's always very sobering for me when I hear people who live outside of our country talking about how great and powerful we are. It reminds me of the weight of responsibility we have, to not only protect who and what needs protecting around the globe (including you), but to _seek peace_ whenever possible.

Yeah. Even as an American it's frightening considering how much power that military gives us and the consequences should it ever fall into the wrong hands. For all our mistakes, I think the U.S. has shown remarkable restraint and compassion thus far. It's hard to imagine many other countries that could have this much power and not abuse it horrifically.

@llfJet2 жыл бұрын
@@curtrorro9870 I disagree. It is the parents who make the decision, but that does not mean they are making GOOD decisions. If only parents always knew! Therapists, grief counselors such as myself, hospitals are very busy trying to handle trauma caused by an event or by their own parents. It's the parents job to know which children are ready to handle certain events and to know when it is not necessary yet. I don't see them doing anything to protect the children-- parents sitting in front of their children with their backs to the kids, not even seeing their reaction-- not knowing when to pause and explain, when to listen to them, when to comfort. Nothing short here of emotional abandonment. This is a textbook example. If the parents are shocked (easy to read this body language) you can believe the children are also, even moreso although their feelings, fear, may stay internalized for years. This is exacting why journalism says "If it bleeds, it leads." Worst story first. Grab 'em and desensitize them. Welcome to our culture of death. Poor, poor parenting. Looks like dad's gaming has become real. Bottom line, the parents are responsible for what young children are exposed to, and if itis NECESSARY for them to see a 5 min clip then to know how to do so. Watch their other shock and awe "good times." 5 min clip is no excuse. Where were the parents in relation to their children during this-- physically and emotionally? Five minutes i is worse. I'm going to say with confidence that most American children could easily find and point out New Zealand on a globe. I mean think about what you're even saying, every US child learns the 7 continents and their names when we're like 5 and New Zealand is pretty much synonymous with Australia in the minds of most Americans. We don't really tend to separate them most American kids would be like "And there's Australia and New Zealand". They're very easy to pick out in a globe for anyone who has passed Kindergarten but of course there always has to be some edge lord punk with their pseudo-woke arrogance who has to act like they're the only ones that really know what's going on. Every American citizen sees Australia and New Zealand as one of our closest allies alongside The United Kingdom, France, and Canada, that's like the big 5 and that friendship has existed for over a century and has been tested through multiple world wars, we are absolutely like an extended family of sorts. @@samdubb2466 Good, I have no idea who would, in their right mind, volunteer with our horrible record of losing these "wars" lately. From Vietnam to our recent "loss" in Afghanistan, why risk your life? We have no business being in these conflicts, we were never meant to be the world police. On the flip side, its not a bad way if you need a catalyst to get your life going if you're stuck in a bad situation. Either way, Im sad for the soldiers that lost their lives in Afghanistan for literally nothing. Not to mention the ones that came back with PTSD. What a damn shame.

@@thefriar8883 soldiers aren't the government. The day I decided to join was a day I'll never forget. I was at school and every radio and TV was instantly tuned into a broadcast stating multiple airplanes were crashing into things. I looked out the school window and saw giant plumes of black smoke. ( we lived an hour north) and it was that visible. I immediately sprinted home... a few months later I was 18 and signing on the dotted line. Did I know of all the politics surrounding everything? No, but I knew I was scared for my family and country men. Please separate service men and woman from government when you talk about such things.... we are not the same enity.

I would like to second the motion to all be friends, from the US. The only real drawback is that while our taxes pay for our military, civilians don't have any say in what our military does. Even if we all disagree with what our military is doing we don't get a voice in the matter. I still support the soldiers, just not all of our government's choices.
