The top brass from the Army, Navy and Marine Corps were arguing about who had the bravest troops. They decided to settle the dispute using an enlisted man from each branch. The army general called a private over and ordered him to climb to the top of the base flagpole, then let go with both hands and salute. The private quickly complied. Next, the admiral ordered a sailor to climb the pole, polish the brass knob at the top, salute smartly and jump off. The sailor did as he was told and landed on the concrete below. Finally, the marine was told to do exactly the same as the army and navy men but in full battle gear, pack filled with brick and loaded weapon carried high. He took one look at the major general and said: "You're out of your mind, sir." The marine commander turned to the others and said: "Now that's guts!"

How awesome to get a letter from the Governor of Georgia and the Mayor of the city of Atlanta!
@brandi_with_an_i2 жыл бұрын
When you said Blue Ridge, GA, I screamed!!! I'm a longtime subscriber also resident of Blue Ridge (Atlanta native). My dad's family goes back for many generations in Fannin County, and I cannot think of any other place that I'd rather raise my children. Such a small world. Goes to show you how much y'all are loved, even in a very small, rural, mountain town. And recieved a letter from the mayor of Atlanta and Governor of Georgia? Very cool. Y'all deserve it.

Gday AwPhooey, just responding with a learning lesson. The New Zealand army, established 1845, servicemen 5000 enlisted, is officially known as Ngati (tribe) Tumatauenga ( Maori peoples God of war and hunting ). My country in conflict is represented by the tribe of the god of war. 🤜🤛🙂

Your excitement over today's mail is infectious! What an honour to watch your family learn about America. It is nice to see things with fresh wonder. I am glad someone sent you the book "American Tall Tales" as it is folklore based off real people that formed our country. Daniel Boone lead a group through the "Smokey" Appalacian Mountains. In that group was my my GGG Grandfather and Grandmother. She was also the sister to John G Chapman, otherwise known as Johnny Appleseed. Later some of their children followed Boone on to Texas.

Semper Fidelis is Latin - "Always Faithful* “Once a Marine, always a Marine” is real and “Semper Fi” is the way they say that. It’s also a reminder of who came before us and how their actions and sacrifices are why the word “Marine” even means anything. I have many friends who are former soldiers and sailors. They are proud of their service and should be.

Yes, this is true. We Americans never use the term "Ex-Marine" The only way a Marine can have the title of US Marine taken away is to be dishonorably discharged from service.

Ok, you have to promise not to get a big head after this comment. I simply just am in LOVE with your intro. It is on par with many sitcom intros I have stuck in my head since I was a youth. It makes me happy. It makes me emotional. Well played NZ'ers. I don't see enough comments saying anything about the intro so, there, you have it!

“Always Faithful, Semper Fidelis is the motto of every Marine-an eternal and collective commitment to the success of our battles, the progress of our Nation, and the steadfast loyalty to the fellow Marines we fight alongside.” My uncles were Marines. Because of how they helped to rear me I know what a good man is.

@@maryannsarkady7950 you’ve been in the business a long time. Are you retired? I met my DH in 1976, married in 1977, and had our 1st child in 1978. I was a SAHM for 14 years. We moved to Edmonton, KY in 1988. I started working in October 1992 as a school Lunch Lady when OldestDD was 14, the twins were 10, and YoungestDD was 4. I have seen the oldest 6 grandchildren every school day from Preschool to 5th grade. OldestGrandson will graduate high school in 2026, youngestGranddaughter will be going to the middle school in August 2026. It will be a good time to retire. I will be 72. I’ve looked at the campus via Google maps on the satellite mode. It is certainly not the little state college anymore. I lived in Linden Hall for 3 years. (Oak, Linden, and Laurel Halls made kind of a U shape.) The building in gone, and the area is a parking lot now. Lots of opportunities and choices for young people. I am glad. Have you ever done the annual NJ Lighthouse Challenge? It is held in October. My sister and I did it in 2017. Each lighthouse is different, and has it’s own story. I think my favorite is East Point, weirdly enough it is west of Cape May.
