I had only ever had fish and chips made with cod before I visited the Pacific Northwest. Then I stopped at a Farmers market in Olympia Washington and got the fish and chips for lunch and they told me the fish came from halibut caught just that morning in the Puget Sound. Best fish and chips Ive ever tasted in my life.

Cod & Halibut are both great white-fishes, very tasty! I'd take either any day of the week. A good seared or sauteed salmon is also delicious. A bit more fishy, but delicious, if you like the strong salmon flavor. Yum!

Chicken of the Sea is a brand of tuna. In the "old days", fishermen referred to white albacore tuna as "chicken of the sea". It was so called because of the white color of its flesh and mild flavor reminded them of chicken.

Yup. Halibut is the best. Right next to salmon. I get halibut fish & chips only, if available. Few years ago I went with family to AK for salmon and one day of halibut fishing. Haven't been since, but would love to book another trip just for halibut. Funny story but days before the halibut excursion, I would tease my rather snooty brother-in-law, who barely knows a boat is, that he was going to turn green in a smelly charter, and most likely vomit for hours. The day of the trip, Cook Inet was as smooth as glass and a perfect 70 degrees.

Deep fried halibut cooked in a beer batter is my favorite food. Mix together: 1 1/4 cups flour, salt to taste, 1 beaten egg, at least 1/2 bottle of beer or measure for whatever consistency you want batter. Will be pancake consistency Dry fish, cut in 1 inch cubes, dust with flour, cover with batter and fry in hot oil until golden brown...1-2 minutes, or more depending on size of fish. Drain on a paper towel. Serve hot with sauce, chips and coleslaw. Dipping sauce: Make to taste. 3/4 cup Mayo, 1/2 cup sour cream, juice from 1-2 fresh lemons(depending on size of lemon), garlic power, dill, salt and pepper to taste.) Also, any other spices you prefer.

Being from the the center of the Great Lakes region (Michigan), fish and chips is a staple here. The best is when you go up north (what we call the Upper Peninsula of Michigan) and the fisherman bring in fresh catch that morning, drop it off at the restaurants across the street, and then they make your fish and chips with literally just caught fish. Doesn't matter where on the globe you are from, it seems fish and chips is universally loved by many!

I am an American who loves fish and chips and red snapper. Putting them together would be amazing. We were at a festival in England in a long line (queue) for fish and chips. Word was passed down the line that they were out of chips. A discussion ensued about how disappointing it would be to get the fish but no chips. Luckily when it was our turn, chips were available again. The newspaper was rolled up in a cone shape with the fish and chips in the cone. It made it very convenient to walk around the festival while eating the fish and chips.

In New England, the fish in "Fish and Chips" will usually be cod or haddock. Unfortunately, the traditional family-owned [English and Irish], "Fridays Only" Fish and Chips shops have mostly disappeared. There was a time when they were everywhere in New England. The traditional shops always wrapped the fish and chips in newsprint, i.e. wrapping paper cut from the remnants of the giant rolls used to print newspapers. If you arrived early enough, there would also be freshly made Cole Slaw and large kosher dill pickle wedges to go along.

I've literally caught thousands of Lbs of Halibut because my Commercial License was a "jigging" permit (rod & reel vs a long-line permit). Whenever I took a guest out sportfishing for Halibut, I always gave them the biggest fish. With Halibut, the 35 Lb and smaller (chickens as we called them) were by far the best in texture, taste & moisture content & I always kept those. When they get over 80 Lbs (up to 400 Lbs which I've seen caught commercially), the meat gets grainy & dry. Glad to see that the West Coast Fish n Chips made the New Zealand grade. Halibut is basically like flounder. It’s a flat fish that’s pretty much everywhere. Halibut are known to be aggressive fighters, there’s a rule of kill the halibut before it gets on deck as they can cause serious injury to the crew. Flounder is the more tame of the flatfish as they don’t fight as bad and is abundant. The way to tell the difference is which is the dominant eye that is on top. Left is flounder, right is halibut. Halibut is also a cold water fish, flounder is a warm water fish.

Red snapper in Florida is usually expensive. The price of red snapper in Florida can vary depending on the cut of fish, the size, and the market, but here are some examples: Red snapper fillets Can cost around $30 per pound from reputable seafood suppliers. Pelican Point Seafood in Tarpon Springs, Florida sells local red snapper fillets for $29.99 per pound. Florida caught red snapper Hull's Seafood Market & Restaurant sells Florida caught red snapper for $13.95 per pound, but prices vary based on the size of the fish. Other factors that can affect the price of red snapper include: Market value, Demand, Shipping costs, and Amount of fish that is not edible once it's filleted. Halibut filets in Florida vary from 20 to 37.50 per pound. Cod, which I think is most commonly used for fish and chips, ranges from 9.99 to 16.99 per pound.

In the UK, the typical fish is cod. There's a local fish and chips restaurant that does traditional cod fish and chips, but they also offer a flounder option. I'd never though of red snapper for fish and chips. Red snapper is a limited catch fish in the US, so not widely available. At Disney's Magic Kingdom, the UK Fish and Chips fast service uses tilapia but the sit down restaurant (Rose and Crown) uses cod. There's also a Gordon Ramsay fish and chips fast food restaurant in Orlando. I've not eaten there.
