Josh James introduces the bro in law to spearfishing for flounder. Flounder gigging is a heap of fun and is an excellent way to harvest a few of these excellent eating fish. Its a lot better than setting a net as you can pick and choose the flounder and not catch too many - leaving a few for next time. catch and cook, father son adventures in NEW ZEALAND

Hey Josh! I spear Sole in OZ, and the best way I've found to prep them is to clean them like a leatherjacket - head off, guys out, finger under the skin and peel back towards the tail. Sometimes people cut the fins off with scissors first to make it a bit easier. You'll need to hold the head firmly with a fork or something - 'cos they're slimy as all f**k hahaha! Then I just bake in the oven covered in butter, lemon and parsley, salt and pepper. You could also crumb and fry whole.... NOM NOM 🙈 Good luck!

Frig I had to laugh when I saw you were sponsored by BW Baker knives. Used to work with the little bugger building a paper recycling plant in Onehunga back in the early 80's where he was flogging heaps of grinding discs to make his butchers knives. And using the work van to deliver and pickup his rough blanks from the steel treatment place. Great to see he made a success of it and is still going. We worked with a rough crew of guys tho. Never forget seeing them rip his pants off at the Christmas party.

Next time make fry one whole. Gut it without cutting the head off, make lift diagonal cuts on the outside. Season with salt and pepper. Then while moist throw some flower on it. Throw it in hot oil and cook until crisp. The best way I've ever tasted flounder

Hi! You make a great and full of adventures videos...but I cannt understand something in many hunters/fishermans behaviour. Why do They/You dont kill fish/animal after catch. Lot of people, aspecially young ones should learn high culture of hunting and respect to animals which gave their own life to feed You and Family. Lets give them respect and kill them humanely to dont suffer. I think You can chaing a lot of in hunting culture and humane kill because lot of people likes You and Your videos. Best for You Josh and keep doing best of You! f

I agree with you there, these flounder were speared in the head, similair to an Iki stick - this is the best way to kill a fish. I am all for teaching respect to the animals that give their lives to feed us. Thanks for the heads up mate.
