RIP Professor Hiramatsu the founder of Kyoto Tachibana in 61 he passed away this month at the age of 86. He had a vision to make marching bands more feminine, entertaining and radiate youthfulness and introduced what you see took years of perfecting for the World to see. Those who saw the Last Pasadena parade can see him enjoying the fruits of his labour nearly 50 years later. As an older man bands weren't something I listened to or watched but on discovering Kyoto Tachibana there was something special. You brought joy, fun and entertainment to millions of young musicians and admirers, me being one of them

I believe this video took nearly 2 years of preparation because it was done in addition to everything else they normally do. You should really watch more of their videos. Pasadena Bandfest 2018 and the Rose Parade 2018 videos are simply incredible because you get to hear how much they can hype up spectators.

The Orange Devils always bring a smile to my face. I often watch part of their participation in the Rose Parades of 2012 and 2018 if I’m stressed and it really helps. 🥰. ps. They also have a blue uniform they sometimes wear but just imagine the feeling of pride for a Junior year kohai the day she is first allowed to put on the famous orange uniform in a public performance and officially joins the ranks of these absolute legends!

They put in as much time in the band as they do in school , maybe a few hours a week more. They practice or perform every weekend. Supposedly in total they have three free days a year. They also have a blue ad gold uniform, a blue and white uniform they use for a special pefromacne once a year, and on for Brass Expo in June, black track pants and white T shirt.

This video is the band only version of a song called “We Can Be Strong”, about overcoming adversity and realising your dreams. That’s why it starts with the players on their backs, calling on their instruments to raise themselves up. Through hard work, perseverance and doing what they love, they end up standing proud, reaching up to the sky. The video was released last summer and featured in a morale boosting event for high school students unable, because of covid, to practice and perform their club activities. Theres a video showing how this all came about in conjunction with a female pop singer (sorry cant remember her name) and the finalized version is in conjunction with her performing together. Not in English but dont need words They are nicknamed orange devils because the colour of their uniforms. The lady concerned is Kalen Anzia and she commissioned the band to appear in pop video with her. The White uniforms were part of Kalen’s uniform act and she does play an instrument in part of the video. I believe all the kids keep the uniform. Kalen is a big fan of Kyoto Tachibana SHS Band, hence the request to have them perform with her. They are more video’s on KZbin, showing the coming together of the band with her production crew, choreography people and recording technicians and I am assuming the guy who the music! ( sorry I talk Japanese). You must watch the videos, it really emphasis how these kids are really clever and working alongside the professional music and choreography persons.. And offering thoughts and ideas on how the performance should evolve. Because these kids are very street wise on this kind of thing. She has also with a lady TV presenter on a zoom platform done a discussion on the video with three band members . Again I apologise for speaking Japanese, but in the interview , Kalen was really excited about the whole thing. That’s it I have run out of things to say. The future is bright the future is Orange 🍊

When the school allowed the band to do this video for j-pop star Kalin Anzai, there are the videos that avex released on KZbin here. It starts with the composer of the song and he goes to the school to meet the band. Then they work on the music. The next video shows them playing the music in a auditorium with the drum major leading the band. The third video shows the professional choreographers that Kalin Anzai and the record company sends to have the band learn the dance moves and the formations. Which goes to show, that all the kids really needed it was the curriculum. Because all the dance and formation that they do are done by members of the band. Thefourth video is the final one that shows them coming to the studio. They get the white uniforms and the shoes. A lot don't realize that footwear is very important to the members of the band. That is why they are practicing wearing the brand new shoes. Plus it also shows throughout these videos that they are just kids! Because you can see not only through their concentration, but, that they talk, laugh, and play as they are practicing.

@@ilox11 I read on the Avex videos that the record company gave the uniforms to the students that participated in making the video. Like a compensation and a new heirloom. So, it will be theirs personally. I don't know if it the club's new addition to the uniforms. I know that the band's uniforms already consist of three styles. The oranges have two, a faded orange and a brighter orange. The blue and gold uniforms and there is the hawaii style and the girls, when they wear this, they can have a different hairstyles individually. I saw a lot of that in the 2015 and 2016 videos. A few for the 2018 and 2019.

@@mezacharia I think the Sweat pants and the t-shirts were already a part of the club's issue. I just like how the students are practicing with the new black leather shoes. Then they do the shooting for the video in the new white uniforms. I did also notice that the flags the color guard is waving has the Avex logo on them.

The white outfits are really beautiful and I hope they wear them again someday. I saw the J-Pop video and it was great. This band is entertaining and is never disappointing in anything they do. And, as you said, they are high school students. I imagine that after high school whatever they pursue, they will be successful.

The history of this band is fascinating and inspiring. I´m adding 4 links below that will tell you a lot about this school and the band and how this style of marching started. These videos follow the band and students during the years of 2011 and 2012. Each is about 15 minutes long and start with a bit of history some of which is repeated from 1 video to another but they each give information about the school, when the band was started and when the dance was introduced (by one of the students) into their performance and how hard they work to accomplish something that would seem, by many, to be impossible. Hi Courtney , as far as I know Tachibana means Wild Orange ( Citrus ) , is not edible , the plant that grew somewhere near the entrance of Tachibana school when it just opened .

It is edable, but more suited to making Marmalade from :) The name Tachibana comes from the trees that were on the site of the school, the white hair ribbon is that of the blossom :)

Look up DCJ or Drum Corps Japan. Yokohama Scouts and the Yokohama Inspires (Adult corps) are really good. The Yokohama Inspires remind me of the Hawthorne Caballeros, my favorite DCA corps, they play a lot of latin jazz type songs, and even have close to the same uniforms as the Cabs.

Like, I would love someone that has a ton of money to go to Japan 🇯🇵 along with a team that can assist them with competing with DCI. I feel that the Japan team would have a super strong competitive team for a DCI world champs status.

Courtney I don't if you know about Kyoto Tichibana SHS but they also have DVDs for sale there in Japan. I've been trying to get them but here in the U. S. It's very hard to order from here. I would love to obtain copies of there Blu-Ray DVDs. Love your You Tube Site check out the Banfest in Pasadena Calif. Before the Rose Parade. And they also did a Benefit concert at John F. Kennedy High School. This concert is over an hour long Excellent Concert.

Hi there, I was wondering if you would react to the Marching Southerners from Jacksonville, Alabama. Jacksonville State is my Alma Mater and I marched with the Southerners from 2011-2014. I believe the band is right up your alley considering a large chunk of its members are also part of DCI bands in the off season.

Kyoto Tachibana has other clubs too, besides the Brass Band Club. This includes sports clubs. The Brass Band Club will play in support of the sports clubs.

The cool part though is that they don't exist to support the sports teams, they exist for their own sake. They still do though. In America, if they got rid of sports, marching band would go with it, because our culture is incapable of separating the two.
