Hey man How are you? Firstly, I know there is a mentors mentees in nzgda programme and I can only get a mentor if I'm already working on a game commerically. I'm a begginer with no knowledge I also know there is this school to learn from too but I have tried schooling from this school it is a great school and online courses both methods havent gotten me too far as I learn by 1 on 1 tutoring, thus i didnt get accepted to move up which is understandable as I dont think I have even scratched the surface of all this I'm at a very begginer stage is it alright please if you guys can provide me with any tutor that can give me 1 to 1 help as I do better with 1 to 1 tuitions. I know I can learn from online but I believe if I learn 1 to 1 it will make the learning curve easier for me. I have got an art tutor for game art i will start first lesson with him today he is from america. I however prefer someone who is a generalist and from same time frame (Indie game designer + creates his/her game art+Animation) If you could find a indie game designer with own studio or one of the top students (if they dont have studio) both of which or either or who has a solid programming and art background and knows all the game fundamentals: aspects of level design game mechanics dynamics etc it will be benefical. (Pre production sound design ai asset creation networking) I will accept indiengame designer/programmers (as I have already got an art tutor but prefer the above) who if not into game art will be ok to teach me too as long as he/she must have all the knowledge above minus the artistic knowledge, and if not game art knowledge it must include that he/she are top student or own studio and a few successful games under theirnradar It's also a requirement that they know the pipeline but I know they would as they are top students or run own studio I know most students would know this but I'm inexperienced. But I'm on a tight budget so cant afford someone too expensive sorry. I'm saying from my own personal experience just about everyone in every forum or facebook page has given up and told me directly or indirectly I'm better of studying with a tutor as it's hard for them to help me. I made a massive mistake of not getting a tutor when the head tutor told me to get one as I got rejected from the school as my skills were very bad. Goal: to run my own indie game studio that makes racing games I will design cars only and get rest of the assets online Thanks Nikunj

The character Roadhog in Overwatch is seemingly a kiwi. He's officially Australian but his real name is Mako, which is Māori for shark (referenced in one of his skins) and two more of his skins are called "Islander" and "Toa". He has a line of dialogue referring to "wop-wops" and his blanket in his bedroom on the Junkertown map has a kowhaiwhai pattern. A developer also said on a forum that if Roadhog had a pet it would be a kunekune.

The Maori in Civ 6 Rising Tide remain possibly the best representation, in my opinion. Not only is the Civ itself really good from a gameplay perspective, but my friends and I can see the Kiwi culture drip from every piece of content. Kupe makes jokes about the infamous Huhu grubs, and in response to friendship requests either gives the quintessential "yeah nah," or the playful "Yeah you're alright."
@biponacci2 жыл бұрын
I also really appreciate the various Māori names given to seas and landmasses as you explore

As somebody who plays Civ a lot, whenever I end up with Kupe in my game im always very excited and I love seeing all the Maori names of the cities as well as one of his things that he likes being in Maori
@IcchiNutz3 ай бұрын
Except it's hardly accurate. Weird they made Kupe the leader of the Maori when he was only an explorer. It would be like calling Captain James Cook the King of Great Britain. Kupe also has a Ta Moko which makes no sense as the art of facial tattoos developed exclusively in New Zealand in the centuries proceeding Kupe's death. Neither Tahitian nor Cook Island peoples have these features (these two places being where New Zealand Maori descend from). And weird they talk of huhu grubs. Kupe never went inland. He was a fisherman who grew up in temperate islands in the pacific. He exclusively sailed the coast of the north island, circumnavigating it before landing in Hokianga. then after that sailing home to tell of new lands.
@Vulpix2983 ай бұрын
@@IcchiNutz All the Civ leaders in the games are fictional, caricature representations of their cultures as a whole rather than the actual historical figures themselves. They're not meant to be accurate as individuals, they just represent the ideas of the nations they're standing in for.
@IcchiNutzАй бұрын
@@Vulpix298 but the other civs had historical figures who actually held some form of political power. Nebuchadnezzar II was a great builder, but he was also the King of Babylonia. Kupe had a Waka and that was about it. He wasn't some big-time chief with armies to command, he was an explorer with a crew, like Captain Cook. And I don't remember Cook being the leader of Great Britain in civ. The only thing Kupe has going for him is the fact that all modern Māori agree he was the first to set foot here. But even then, he didn't explore far. He mainly stuck to sailing the coasts. He didn't explore the interior very much if at all. Other tūpuna like Tamatea Pōkai-Whenua have that distinction ("Pōkai-Whenua" translates to "Land-Eater") Since I'm talking about Tamatea Pōkai-Whenua, fun-fact, the longest placename in the world can be attributed to him. Perhaps you've heard of it "Taumatawhakatangihangakoauautamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupōkaiwhenuakitanataahu". Anyway, rant over

Probably a lesser known one, and a pretty non-extensive one at that, is the inclusion of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch as airports in Pocket Planes, an old iOS app. As with any airport, each of these have their own unique factoid in the info tab. The game also has an achievement for flying from Nome, Alaska to Wellington, the longest possible flight in the game, given the devs seem to think the world is flat.

In the Team Fortress 2 universe, as shown by the comics, New Zealand is basically a cross in between Atlantis and Krypton; it sank to the bottom of the ocean and thrived as an underwater country, and as a twist on the classic Superman origin story, the Sniper, who is a baby at this point, climbs into a rocket his father built so he could try to escape the imminent destruction of New Zealand. However, the part to note here is that Sniper’s father built the rocket for himself, and he intended to abandon his wife and child. There's a first person shooter I can't remember what it was. But it got a lot of controversy for one of it's levels being set inside the original cathedral square church ( the one we had before the earthquakes fucked it up)

Regarding Far Cry 3, apparently (according to the head writer) the white saviour elements were meant to be satirical, mocking the insecurities of the main character, a rich white kid from California who chooses to keep killing people as the game goes on because he feels more like a man than he could back home. The fact that the tribe purposefully cater to his ego and dress him up as a white saviour was supposed to be part of the satire. I think a lot of this was lost, unfortunately. People ended up taking it dead seriously because the actual intent of the writing did not come across all that well.

I've read that very same thing since making this video! I consider myself to be pretty good at recognizing satire but I definitely saw far cry 3 at face value when I played it (I was much younger back in 2012, though) regardless of ubisoft's intentions I think the gun-shooty pew pew audience of 2012 just wasn't self-critical enough to read it as satire, so regardless of what the director intended the far cry 3 we experienced, and the far cry 3 ubisoft promoted, definitely weren't satirical

@@FelixWalton I haven't enough experience with farcry 3 to fairly critique it, but, white savior, really? I'm doing my research and when I'm back we'll talk.

Honestly it was nice in Far Cry 3 having NPCs with a Kiwi accent, as someone who was born in New Zealand and moved to the UK it felt homely to me for whatever reason, the white saviour shit is mainly just based on the power fantasy its self, so the NPCs being trash is really more of a Ubisoft NPC issue, but I enjoyed the vid. One of the best Kiwi integrations was for TitanFall 2, the very first dude you meet is kiwi, and your homie for a short period, some of the enemies are kiwi as well, so plus points for that already excellent game.

Reverie is a zelda like game set in New Zealand. It's pretty cool. It's my favorite game to be set in New Zealand. It's developed by an indie dev team from New Zealand so it feels a lot more authentic than pretty much every game in this video. You should check it out.

I get hacked off when NZ isn’t on a map or globe on a movie or game, I think that’s why I get mega hyped when NZ’s mentioned at any point in time for any reason really lol … Oh yeah, I still got my PS1 copy of Jonah Lomu Rugby too. I never play it but it’s still a dope relic to have! 🇳🇿👈😎👍✨

Why worry about the small stuff like that . Nothing you can do about it best not to wind your self up .

@@unnamedchannel1237 People that come from massive countries and continents are obviously oblivious to the fact, hence your comment … Now to answer your question “Why worry about small stuff like that?” It’s because when New Zealanders have made or done great things in the past, and this will definitely happen in the future too, we are 99% of the time never mentioned or we are labelled Australian at best! Come on dude 😩 How would you feel if throughout history your people/country aren’t given the proper recognition and props they deserve? Put that in your digireedoo and smoke it! 😒

Path of Exile. Made in west Auckland and released in 2012. The first area looks like much like the west Auckland coastline. Even the zombies are accurate.

Battlefield 1 came to mind for me. In the multiplayer, you can play through the Gallipoli Campaign in 1915 as the British Empire against the Ottoman Empire. While playing as the British Empire on this map/operation, some of the player's soldiers are reskinned to resemble ANZAC (Australian & New Zealand Army Corps) forces who took part in the battle against the Ottomans.

Mad Maggie was introduced a while back in Apex Legends. She has some Maori related voice lines and packs an accent to go with it. There's also a side character called Jonah in 2013s Tomb Raider, he is a half Maori half American, and continues to be the Chef/Assistant for Lara Croft through the rest of the trilogy(kind of like a butler in a way but more adventurous).

New Zealand also exists in the Grand Theft Auto universe as well. In the Enhanced Version of GTA 5, the Radio Mirror Park DJ announces The Ruby Suns song 'In Real Life' by saying "time for some indie/pop from New Zealand"
