This is a glimpse of what supermarkets in New Zealand look like. There are three giant players here in the supermarket world. Pak n' Save (which I think is the cheapest of them all), Countdown (Average Pricing in my opinion), New World (on the expensive side I believe).
We will feature the other 2 groceries in our future uploads :)

PakNSave looks like a cross between Sav-A-Lot and Aldi's here in the US.

From a Canadian perspective food is really expensive in NZ and this not even a upscale or premium grocery store.

Yes I agree New Zealand is very quiet and peaceful place compared to Toronto.

Its funny, my sister is currently in Toronto, and she finds the food expensive. But yes i guess compared to America and Canada our food prices are kinda high. Somethings are relatively cheap though in comparison.

Jennifer Brown i totally agree and New Zealand population is not as much as compared to US and Canada so you can really understand where the high prices are coming from :)

Two things to understand. First, we're very far away from every other major country, so shipping stuff here gets expensive. Second, all of our major supermarket chains are owned by just two companies, meaning there is a duopoly over our food supply. That doesn't encourage fair pricing.
