The Newark gospel and jazz scene gave birth to generations of innovators. Wow, I remember the days when Jazz became a legitimate discipline in higher education. (It was the 19808s when proper attribution was the academic standard). Round about the time that music programs were being cut in the inner cities; And Black female jazz vocalist found it difficult to work; Bands of all music genres relegated Black musicians to base and drums (or they weren't promoted). I see Race Music is alive and well, even in Newark!
