You did everything right in the end, but you actually newer needed to get a new chain, you could just have replaced the broken link with a quick link/powerlock, it is a good thing ta get one or two extra quicklinks so that you can fix a chain when out and about. From your videos you can't have had the bike long enough to actually wear out the chain If you have to shorten a chain more then one link to fit it then you can still ride it back home but you need to check that the chain haven't become to short before doing any serious riding on it.

When you pulled the right hand brake to tighten the quicklinks, you engaged the front brake, but americans use the right brake for the rear brake, so you should have used the left instead. Unless your bike is set up american style.

You can ride for maybe 10-20 miles with the oil that is in the chain in the package
