The good thing about rice and pasta is that you can add canned chunky soup or canned meat and veggies and have a decent meal.

I have been prepping a long time. There are 2 kinds of preppers...those that eat what they store & then replenish it. The second kind of prepper (like me) stocks up on long shelf life freeze dried items & shelf stable items to use ONLY in case of an emergency. We continue to do our grocery shopping as we normally have and will for as long as we can. We continue to shop & stock up on emergency foods, beverages & supplies too. I will never stop prepping. I love 😍 having "food insurance". Thank you Kylene to you & your sweet husband for helping so many new preppers & seasoned preppers through your youtube videos.

Between the birds and the ants and the heat and the drought and and and, my backyard garden failed miserably. So I'll be growing indoors this fall and winter, for sure. How am I doing, you ask? I'm really good, more or less. My oven crapped out last week, and as much as I was ready to go "off grid" with my solar oven, explaining the whole process to my helpers met with major resistance, so in the end it was better to keep the peace and get the oven repaired. @@TheProvidentPrepper So you got yourself some wheels, huh? Way cool! A manual chair or an electric chair? Standard walker or a rolling walker? Each variation has its benefits and drawbacks. But no matter what, yes, you'll be able to garden from a chair. You'll be fine, no worries. The tricky part is the approach to the plant. Because my powerchair's (and most other wheelchair's) footplate(s) sticks out, I have to garden from my good side, rather than face on. Oh, and consider a seatbelt. BTW, my ex-girlfriend (There, my secret is out: I'm a long-retired Lesbian, LOL) had MS, so I somewhat grok your frustrations and challenges. But anyway, bottom line is....I don't ask if I CAN do a thing; I tilt my head at a problem and find a way to do it that works for me. So yes, you, and I, and probably pretty much every other crip on the planet CAN do ANYthing we need to do...with adjustments. Just my take on it.

Manual chairs are robust and sturdy machines, requiring little maintenance, except maybe a damp rag swipe of the upholstery occasionally, and a seasonal greasing of the axles and the folding-scissor-frame-thingie-bobs, which will be a perfect job for you-know-who. Grok was from my fave author growing up, and was published in '61, my birth year. Hardly 'modern'', but maybe a bit too hippie-esque for most. As for the "sooner rather than later" timeline, I would remind you that 'Father's will not mine/yours be done', if I can say that without sounding too preachy. Or how 'bout we just go with 'Que sera, sera', to quote Doris Day. Whatever will be, will be. But whatever happens, I am positive you have the mindset and supportive family to deal with it.

Very important is do not store water on a wood floor as water is heavy at 8.3lbs per gallon. Any bulk water storage needs a solid floor under it and as little light on it as you can manage so a corner of a garage is good or in a basement or closet of a on slab house. A single 55 gallon barrel of water is more then 450lbs so you can see why you want a solid floor under it. When you get rice for an emergency food also get some beef and chicken bouillon cubes as you can drop them in to flavor the rice. Plane rice works but it is so much better when you can flavor it so simply. The most important thing with emergency supplies is to store then in protected areas as it is worthless to have the supplies sitting in flood water unless they are fully water tight like cans. If the risk is flooding store everything that can be damaged by water 2+ feet above the known highest flood in the area. The best part of prepping is the ability to figure things out like you can build a on site data storage that can survive a fire for under $1,000 by thinking outside the box and looking at how aircraft black boxes protect from heat. The only bad part of the idea is you need access to the concrete floor to install it and after the fire will need to fully disassemble the setup to access the data so could be days to weeks before you can access.

I didn't think much about prepping until the COVID issue came up. I would just forage and hunt small game with a pellet gun. NOT that easy where I live. The shelves went bare and I grabbed as much canned food as I could. My wife and I would still eat OK but I felt better knowing the canned food was there for us. Now I'm starting the prepping thing with foods. I've purchased mylar bags (1 gallon) and oxygen absorbers. I'll start with Beans and Rice. My wife won't eat rice so pasta will be bagged too. I just watched your new video on freeze driers (I've wanted one for a few years). You answered a lot of my concerns. Anyone who hasn't seen their freeze drier video should go watch that too. So I have four layers of backup for it but I just realized that they all depend on the power coming back on at some point. Yeah, my food ,water and heating will all run out at some point too but the basement flooding will put a major crimp in the whole plan. I was at Sam's today, and since I always buy rice and beans on principle I noticed the black beans were this time quite a bit cheaper. $8 for 12# vs $12 for 12#. One of the biggest things that helped me starting out is I would have my buy price, stock up price, and my leave it alone price for the items I eat. Prepping can get really expensive but knowing your prices can really help control it. Also don't forget ethnic grocery stores as they frequently run phenomenal sales. We have locally a great Indian store and I always like to really stock up on their holiday sales. Last year before Diwali I was able to get red lentils for $1/kg or less than 50 cents per pound.

Most water wells have water that could be consumed either directly or after some treatment. What a great asset to have for you and others is a crisis. The Provident Prepper, thanks. Yes it makes sense. I’m all new to this and am trying to play catch-up. I’ve bought so much stuff and don’t really totally get how to prepare for long term. I wasted a whole bag of the moisture absorbers because I did not know once opened you use immediately and I just put a clip on them after getting one out and later learned you use immediately. I’m sure there is a learning curve but I only have 2 people to cook for so a 5 gallon container seems like a lot to have open. Do you freeze rice to kill every bug before putting in the containers(after letting dry out).

@@TheProvidentPrepper good info! I bought a 20lb bag of rice back in February. Do you think it will last longer in a mylar bag, or sealed in a food saver bag? I actually thought about breaking them down and sealing in 1 gallon food saver bags then putting all of those into eight a food grade bucket or big mylar bag. Should I also add oxygen absorbers?

I went to two stores earlier today because I wanted to buy 2.5 gallon water jugs. There were none. I found some gallons, but in both stores there were very few. I did find some smaller bottles, though.

@@TheProvidentPrepper I do have a gravity water filtration system and about 300 gallons of water in rain barrels (plus water tabs), but I'd like to keep the rain barrels for plants and animals. I'd love to get a large above ground water tank.

Well, I have about 3 months Supply of food But not enough water for that long, I have about 3 weeks of water. I also have a Water Dispenser that has a filter in it, so far it has worked well and does Purify the Water. I can't really Afford anything more expensive but does filter the Cryptoso, and other Bacteria and Toxins. I have a 55 Gallon Drum that is for clean Water and a 5 Gallon Water Can, a Solar Shower, was going to try to get the Bladder that goes in the Tub. I think I can get By ok, Oh and I do Have Some Protection.

Have recently learned about rainwater harvesting from your roof😄. 1000 sq feet of roof will give you 600 gallons of water from only one inch of rain!!! Use your gutter water with a larger storage tank. Put that together with a Berkey water purifier and you have clean drinking water. I’m planning at least a 1500 ga tank (because I have room). Even here in California I get 10 inches of rain a year. That’s ALOT of water❤️ a good book for exploring rainwater harvesting is Brad Lancasters “Harvesting Rainwater for drylands and beyond”

Theresa Logsdon, I agree👍. Water must be filtered to drink!. The Berkey water filter is worth investigating for that purpose😄Tanks come in green and black material precisely to inhibit sunlight and algae growth which will help immensely for few household and garden use.
