SteveO, Thank you for posting all your videos. I appreciate all your tips, and what equipment you like. I'm 66 and have always done all my maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on all my cars, lawn, home, appliances, etc. on my own. A couple years ago I decided it's time to learn the mop and squeegee method. I cleaned all my windows again yesterday and I am very happy with my results - thanks to you! Thank you again! Rick

I also find a lot of guys that don’t use enough soap if you have a 5 gallon bucket of water Squeeze soap bottle for about 6 sec using little soap makes the squeegee drag and noisy leaving lines and swirls. A properly soaped and soaked window should make very little squeaks.

One tip I will give if you're doing kitchen windows that have grease on them and it's hot and sunny be sure to degrease them first before you wash them otherwise you're going to get streaks lots of it. I also think there are some glass that's more prone to getting squeegee marks than others I can't exactly explain it but some are more prone

I’ve been cleaning for 6 years now and I love it. I always use liquid squeegee for my “soap” it works so good. if I have to clean a restaurant I add a little dawn to help with the grease. I love that blue handled squeegee you have I need to look into that. I have a basic swivel handle. Gets the job done but I like the one you’re using too!

Window cleaning looks like the simplest thing ever to do when you look at. Pick up the tools and actually give it a try and you will find out quickly it's anything but. Someone who can wield a squeegee on glass especially at a height (on a pole) successfully is past a talent more like an art form. Great tips. BTW the water fed pole I picked up with your help from Window Cleaning Resource works outstanding. Thanks for your guidance.

When I first started learning my boss put me on a window and told me to clean it. I cleaned it went and got him to show him. He comes right up and says it looks like shit do it again. I cleaned the window again this time I think I did better. So I go get my boss and again told me it looked terrible and to do it again. I think I cleaned that one window until they came and got me for lunch. Mind you we start at 6 am and take lunch at noon. Also it might sound weird but my one colleague that I was with had me relax my hand holding the squee and did the motions for me.

i always load new rubber with the logo facing down, i like to always know at a glance if i am on the first or second side. so when i turn the squeegee toward me if i see the logo i know i still the second side available. also i rarely use the ettore channels in my moerman but occassionally so i ground out 3 scoops where the teeth go so the handle grips the rubber and i don't need the end clips

Back in the late 70’s and 80’s when smoking was allowed in restaurants the solution I used was Palmolive and ammonia. It not only cut through the nicotine but also the grease. Fast cash in those days. Didn’t do houses. Store fronts, restaurants, and Holiday Inns kept me busy for years.

Put a couple squirts of soap directly on the applicator, just seems better than in the water for me. Have a bucket on a belt, half litre bottle of water with you and you can leave your main bucket in the van out of the way. I just usually go back to the van every hour or so for dry microfibres and top up from main bucket. If i have busy day or dirty work i bring a couple of 5 litre tubs clean water so can change main bucket if needed. Add a touch rinse aid in the water for a nice sparkle 😉 😅

Very informative! Couple things: I always add some white vinegar to my solution - helps with streaks. Is there a negative to that in your opinion? Also for newbies, it would’ve been good to mention the angle of the squeegee - the leading edge should be angled up - that was super helpful!

Thinking about getting into Window cleaning. Large market/plenty of market share. Reading some of these comments have me a bit baffled. Like any trade there are different schools of practice but in the end if the finished product looks clean I doubt there'll be any real noticeable differences between "professional" and "amateur". An amateur can still be skilled. At least that's what I'm telling myself as I consider to start this career! Good stuff.

I do my single house windows about 4 times per year. To extend squeegee rubber lifespan to about 5 years, only straight down or sideways glide is used on the windows. A 24 inch Sorbo squeegee is used for the large windows, while a 14 inch Sorbo is used for the smaller windows. For a large window, the 24" is used first, followed by the 14" for the remaining small area. I like the fly screen removal tool tip. Fortunately my 5-year old house fly screens can be easily removed by hand.

Less = friction and streaks. More = More towel work. Also, cold outside = use warm water. Warm outside = use cold water. (no the glass wont break from temp diff)

So i am a custodian and i clean a lot of windows. I didn't know that the rubber on the squgee wears that fast. So my questions are. About how many windows would you say i would need to clean before i would need to flip the rubber on the squgee. And Are there any other signs that you can share that point to a squgee rubber that is wearing out. I ask because i am starting to get a lot of streaks on the down stroke technique and i wasn't before, so i belive i have a worn out squgee blade but would like to hear your thoughs. THANKS

I use Trojan rubbers. The largest ones they make. It’s not easy with those really tight windows but teamwork makes the dream work, I get it done.

Hey SteveO, I’m a teen from the UK looking to earn a bit of money, and I’m considering taking this as a side hustle. I’ve done a bit of research and found a kit, Unger AK015 cleaning kit. Do you recommend me buying this kit or look for another one? Please let me know.

Dumbest question evere, but here goes --- do the windows need rinsed at all, or does the squeegee plus wiping down the edges finish things up?

I recognize that switching to the other side of the rubber is a good $ saving technique but I find that the rubber is never quite as good as its “first life on 1st side “ as it loses that stiff crispness that handles with such command because the rubber softens. Perhaps I’m working 1 side too long.

Question: can’t see what happens to all the runoff of soapy water. Allowing it to drip down the siding can leave permanent streaks. Was hoping to learn how to control that runoff. Any tips? Off to look at your merch. I need a great squeegee!

its only soap and water. this is only a demonstration of how to squeegee, run off is always wiped off on any normal job. I really like this squeegee windowcleaner.com/products/ettore-complete-brass-ledge-eze-squeegee?sca_ref=3020242.k17l3JaEgS

@@SteveOthewindowcleaner Thank you! Good to know you normally wipe away before dripping. Even dilute soapy water can leave permanent clean steaks. Ask me how I know. 😬 thanks for the recommendation on squeegee. New to this.
