Big fan of your tips SteveO I’d recommend an extra pair of tennis shoes with shoe covers kept in your van. They stay clean and save your feet on ladders indoors. They’re easy to slip on and off. Getting interested in the trad pole you’re carrying. Looks better than tightening clamps👊

Hi Stevo, I like your attitude with regards to "standards". I am guilty of over cleaning in the past and have recently started to not obsess over getting the glass perfect. My work days are much easier and quicker this way, My hourly rate has gone way up. I would prefer to leave the odd spot here and there to working harder and longer. Hey SteveO, I really love your videos. I've picked up some great tips. if I can impart some knowledge to you; be careful with those basement windows. A lot of them are tempered and shouldn't be bladed. Here's a list of which windows should be tempered according to code: Bathrooms, sliders, doors, anything 3 feet from a door, anything 18" off the ground or lower. Also, always be sure to look in the corners of the windows to see if they are tempered. if they're tempered they usually say, "tempered," buy not always.

Hello steveo, first time comment on one of your videos. I worked in residential for about 6 years before switching to highrise and large commercial, where detailing is basically not a thing outside of very rare instances. In my residential days I pretty much used all the same things you do for detailing. However for the past few years I have been doing a large building lobby on a monthly basis where I have to detail due to metal knobs that stick out in the middle and corner of every window. I was recommended a natural chamois and was surprised how well it works. I'd kinda describe it as a cross between a surgical towel and a microfiber cloth. You can use it damp so there's basically no laundry afterwards and it last for an entire day. Curious if you've ever tried one or your opinion on one.

In your video for detailing commercial can you show how you minimize detailing when you're squeegeeing and how you put the towel on the pole and squeegee with the pole? Also if you could talk a little about when you finish detailing if you want there to be zero water on the window or if you're alright if a little trail of water, if you have a difference between commercial and residential on what you requiring your degree of a detailing (i.e., if you'll leave a little water on commercial). I squeegee and leave just a ton of water when I'm done. I don't know why that happens, but there is a river along the side of the windows and it forces me to spend a bunch of time detailing and uses more towels than I want to think about.

Thanks for the tips here as I just purchased a new squeegee, mop and bucket as I'm so tired of my dirty windows. One question before I go out on the ladder and get this job done is what kind of soap do you use and how much. I used to use "Windex" and towels to do this but that stuff just attracts the dirt and stuff. You pro's all use soap and a squeegee so that is the direction I'm going. I'm watching your video and learning. Thanks again for the tips and the help. Great video!!

Well Steve0 I had to thank you sincerely for your videos and your advice. I got my windows cleaned and what an amazing difference doing it "the professional way" . I used to do my windows with a towel and "Windex" but they never looked like this!! First I have to say the learning curve using a squeegee is almost vertical for someone that has never used one except on the windshield of my car. Also I have to say it took a lot of trial and error to get the soap mix right. As I'm sure everyone starts out with WAY too much soap. But I kept dumping half my bucket and refilling it with clear water until I just knew I had the right mix and as you say it's not much. My first windows were in the direct sunlight and there I had to do and redo until I got them "good enough". But then I moved on the the balance of my 8 total windows including the oval window in my front door. By the time I was done I had a pretty good idea of what I was doing with the squeegee. Now I went back to the first two windows that were still in the direct sun and with the "experience" I had I redid those windows and they actually came out as good as the others. Using a mop with soap is the hot set up for sure - inside and out. I'm a retired older woman and not going into this business but I will certainly do my windows far more often then I have because this truly did an excellent job and was a lot easier then a towel and bottled cleaner. Thank you so much for sharing your secrets and making your video's. You helped me get the job done successfully.

Comment about the soap to mop and window starting at at video log 8:30; I like to have a small squirt bottle, of my normal solution, with me just in case my mop starts to dry. I apply that to the mop not the window. It also comes in handy for washing out sills.

Flat seals are the worst with any squeegee, even the Liquidators. Perpendicular seals are like cleaning with the cruise control on. Try Razer Red rubber in the Liquidators, works better than most rubber I've found. For example using Pulex Hard in a 22" Liquidator will cause skipping on the edges as well as Black Diamond rubber. In my experience, the Razer Red solves a lot of those problems with skipping. Lower sized blades benefit from the rubber as well. YMMV.

Don't mess with the silicon. It was probably put there because of a leaky window. You don't want to open yourself up to that kind of liability.

How exactly is the Moerman channel modified? Did you simply bend the end clips to make the "dogearing" more flush with the squeegee rubber?
@SteveOthewindowcleaner
@SteveOthewindowcleaner 5 жыл бұрын
Johnny Reighard no I clipped off the very top corners so the rubber has some room to move. I then used a heat gun to mold the tips rounded. It worked ok, still thinking of other ideas with it.
