john thirlaway I've got the japspeed tail pipes. All stock manifold and downpipe. Yes they are loud. I just hate taking off the manifold. I have successfully done it though so thats a plus. Thinking of getting a metal head gasket and ARP studs. But before I order anything gotta take a look at what's happening. Hopefully just get the head skimmed and then it can all go back together with new water pump and new timing belt stuff.

Newbie Mechanic yeah you're running the Rev 1 - 2 turbo engine aren't you, if so it will just be the paper shite one. From what I've seen on the forums apparently the rev3 steel ones can go in without any modifications so maybe worth you doing a bit more investigation into it. ARP headbolts seem to be the only way to go, even the cheap DIY's on KZbin who'll happily throw a Chinese turbo pay the extra expense for ARP

john thirlaway yeah that's exactly right. I won't order anything yet as I may get the head skimmed and then will need a thicker gasket potentially. Depends on the condition... I'm really hoping it's just a gasket problem. I'm trying to find out what the stock head gasket thickness is on the gen2 3sgte. I'm getting 1.4mm but not sure 100%

What gen is this 3sgte ?

Any progress with yours? Mine went to MR2Ben yesterday for an engine rebuild, forged pistons, metal HG plus carbon fibre wings, bonnet and duck tail boot lid. Be back with me in 'a few weeks'.

GRPLiningServices same forged stuff waiting on deliveries. My block is being machined so waiting on parts (yawn)

It's only taking things apart. Walkthrough is useful even for me putting it all back
