YES, I feel the same about the crib! We love our convertible car seat for Kylie, but definitely waited to put her in it til I think she was like 9 months. Haha, I received Christmas clothing (??) at Kylie's baby shower that was completely the wrong size for how old she would be at Christmas! And definitely no infant shoes here, either.

So funny how different everyone is! Yes yes yes for the infant clothes! You never know how fast/slow they will grow and what size/season they will fit in to. My babies live mostly in onesies! But my must haves from start are monitors and cribs, my babies slept in their own room in the day from day one so it was nice to see them from around the house while i was doing jobs as they napped, and i find it so much easier to sleep myself after they transition from a bassinet in our room around 4 months, to feed them in their room (in a comfy rocking chair), pop them in their bed to settle to sleep and head straight back to my bed without nightlights or white noise!
@faeriesmak5 жыл бұрын
My regrets were a baby monitor and a bassinet. We have a large house and I still never used the monitor and both of my babies HATED the bassinet and we ended up co sleeping when they were that age anyway. I did end up using the crib for them both, but every child is different. You might find that if you have more the crib might come in handy. The thing that I used the most was a pack in play. Mostly for sleeping. I ended up using that in place of a bassinet and also as a play pen in case I needed to quick switch out laundry when a baby was at the mobile stage. I also used a bouncy chair a lot!

Super late to watching this- but definitely going to a consignment store and trying on all the different carriers helped me so much when I was overwhelmed with what to buy- I even put my baby in a few and ended up buying one brand new in the box for like $15. Best thing I did!

I think a baby monitor is so much more useful for when they're past the baby stage. I use it a lot just to check in on my son and he's three. It's also awesome to peek in if we have a babysitter for peace of mind. I agree it is better to wait until you have a real need for something instead of just having it to have it.

I'm finding that too! Having a monitor in her room now as a toddler would be helpful

Another reason to hold off on the convertible car seat is the expiration date. Even if you end up using the one you have, you’ve kind of “wasted” a year of its life. If you have another kid, that year could be the difference between having to get another seat.

I actually use swaddles more than I use anything! We love the solly swaddles, super stretchy and beautiful material. My baby has been naked (except for a diaper) since I had him 7 weeks ago. We use swaddles like they are clothes. If he spits up it becomes a burp rag. We also use our JoJo co sleeper bed a TON. We take it to the park and camping and use it for naps and as our diaper changing station. Best 100 bucks ever spent.

I’m 8 months pregnant and officially decided against a crib a couple months ago. I live in a 2 story house. I have a pack n play for downstairs and an arms reach co-sleeper for my bedroom. I got the bigger one so it’s essentially the size of a mini crib. Should work for a least a year and then we’ll go to floor bed. I’m actually the opposite on car seats - I’m not petite and at my last growth ultrasound all measurements were >97th percentile. I can just see my baby outgrowing an infant car seat by 6 months so I’m starting with a convertible. I didn’t register for any blankets/towels, etc because I know people will buy them anyway. I’m definitely interested to see your current bed setup for Harriet and what you’re doing with Montessori.

This reply may be too late for you, but in case anyone else is reading and wondering the same thing, when I nannied for a family who used cloth diapers, we used their enclosed front porch in the winter for sun-bleaching the diapers. It wasn't particularly warm out there, but it got a lot of direct sun and it totally worked!! ☀️ I personally don't have a porch, so I'm not sure what I'll do in that situation... But for those who do, I encourage them to try this!

Blending what you want and what your loved ones will do can be a challenge. I found it easiest to suggest specifics of what you need or ask them to just send you a quick text/photo of something theyre thinking of buying your little before they do. For example, the other day my mom text me a photo of a cute halloween candy bag while she was at the craft store for harriet to see if she could get her one. I politely said, thats cute, but I have too many bags already and asked if she'd want to make her a cute halloween pillowcase instead (my mom likes to make her grandkids those around the holidays.) She loved the idea and instead picked up a little fabric to make harriet a cute, yet practical gift she will enjoy giving and harriet will get to use daily around that time of year. This is just what's worked for me and doesn't always go like that. But more often than no people pick up on your vibe/lifestyle. If they don't, just kindly tell them you like to keep things to a minimal and suggest non-tangible things they could gift instead (meals, babysitting, trip to a park, etc) Hope that helps!
@21earlthepearl5 жыл бұрын
With some online registries there is a place to write a note at the top. You could say that you already have more than enough toys and clothes, and are trying to keep everything simple and sustainable. You could also write there that you’d love some meals or babysitting instead of physical gifts
@forest_green5 жыл бұрын
I think there are just some people who are always going to think their style is the best and buy you things that you would never buy in a million years. If it's not useful or beautiful to me I think 1. the stage where the object is useful is so short relative to the baby's life. Both of my babies napped only on my chest or in a very tacky rock'n'play type thing that didn't go with the rest of my style. I'm not going to forgo being able to take my own nap or catch up on housework or whatever while baby naps just so I can get rid of a useful, but ugly thing. And only 3 years after the ugly little rocker entered our apartment, we were done with that phase of life and we gave it away to someone in need. And that kind of thing continues now. Granny gave us a stained 40 year old tutu that my kids will never use, I took a photo of them in it to send to granny and it's out of my house and in the donations box at the secondhand store. 2. If I already have something that serves the purpose the gift was intended for, I give it away. There's a Facebook group for my city that connects refugees new to the country with people who have excess. I've given away everything my kids don't need now that they're bigger and it feels good that the items are being used again by someone who really needed it. And maybe the items weren't in my taste but they're often exactly what someone else wanted, or maybe they don't even care about the aesthetics of the item because otherwise their kids would have nothing.

So glad you found one that works for you and your babe! I think baby carriers are so subjective to each person, baby and lifestyle. It's likely our next baby won't love the ring sling, scout, etc so you just don't know until baby is here what will work best!

I wouldnt sell the crib, our baby has been sleeping on a floor bed for 1.5years, and now she's having some kind of sleep regression and walks/crawls around the room at night..you never know when it might come in handy again. I think if I had one I'd set it up next to our bed these days, instead of getting up 2-3 times a night to lie next to her..

I'm 14 weeks and this is our first baby, surprise one at that and I was prepared to not have kids. Thus, I have no idea even where to start. It seems like you need so much, it's overwhelming. You have to research everything and there are so many options. I wish it was easier to just get the bare essentials. Why is middle class parenthood so involved and expensive?! My parents raised me on one crib and a carrier, maybe a play pen. Don't get it.
@sittingonarose5 жыл бұрын
Honestly babies really don't need much especially in the beginning. They just need you! There are so many things you can do without or just order off amazon as needed haha. So many things they only use for such a short period of time and then it's just taking up space.
@jariahguernsey5 жыл бұрын
I definitely second the crib. I don't know why I felt the need to get it. My son's been co sleeping for two years, and breastfeeding so probably going to sleep with us till he isn't 🤷😂🤣 Also I honestly just sleep better knowing he's next to me and he's safe. 🤷 I feel like with your first baby you're always over prepared and then by your second kid you know that you don't even need half of the things you thought you did. 😂
