I show you my NEWBORN cloth diaper stash and my ideal stash within this stash. I bought a lot of diapers to review. I'm hoping to put out informational and quality newborn cloth diapering content on KZbin so, I've decided to take on the task of in-depth reviews, comparisons, and fits of these diapers!
VIDEO BREAKDOWN:
:30 Diapers Being Re-Used 2nd & 3rd Time Around
1:20 Newborn All In Ones
8:35 Newborn Pocket Diapers
10:32 Newborn Fitteds
12:56 Newborn Covers & Prefolds
21:52 My "IDEAL" Newborn Stash
I'm DUE June 30, 2018
This will be my 3rd time cloth diapering from the newborn stage. My older 2 children were not cloth diapered. I wish I would've known about modern cloth diapers back then! The newborn stage is much favorite to cloth diaper. I am so excited to give this stash some good use. It's a bit excessive... it's very excessive 😂 But I'm hoping this will provide me with tons of newborn cloth diaper reviews and comparisons which I hope, in turn, will be helpful for those looking into specific diaper brands.
Check out lovelycloth.com for some beautifully handmade items like cloth diapers and cloth pads! Use code JAYS NEST (all caps) for 10% off. Not an affiliate code, just a discount code. VALID UNTIL SEPT 1, 2018!!!!

I LOVE stash videos ;) I just wanted to make sure my stash was complete before I showed it. I'll be adding flats and small prefolds within the next month, but those also work in my one size stash as well. I love that I can use my flats and small prefolds in my One Size stash!

Cloth with Kodie it shucked for me too Idk why her back would be soaked with urine every almost hour or seemed.I hated that, but then again I didn't invest because I figured it was a waste of money, I utilized fst 2 Nicki nb and 10 Alva nb those were the worst for leaks, but alas I got through it we use buttons exclusively now. She's 4 months old 😊

My baby is 4 months as well! We had a lot of leg leaks with most of our newborn stash. It seemed it would pee too fast or too much and it would come right through the PUL. I found totbots to work ok. FSTs and covers worked everytime, and when he got a little bigger, newborn Blueberry Simplex work and still fit him.

So, I saw your Ideal Newborn Stash discussion, you (ROUGHLY) have these on your Ideal Newborn Stash: 24x AIO 8x Fitted 1x Pocket 8x Fitted 10x Insert 11x Prefolds Looking at these numbers, would you prefer to use All In One diaper for Newborn rather than Flats/Prefolds?? For a newborn, I admit, I LOVE Aios but the absorbency isn’t there for a heavy wetter... so AIOS can be hit or miss. I do like them though! I love a variety of nappies and I personally like the mix of all of them. Sometimes im in the mood for flats while other times I just want Aios, you know? For a OS stash I’m not crazy about Aios, but I love them for a newborn stash! I know this probably isn’t helpful 😂🙈 and I sincerely apologize lol. If I had to do it again I’d probably do half/half.

NBAIOs are so hit or miss for people. I know that I'm running the chance of them not working absorbency wise. The simplex are nice though since it also has a pocket for added absorbency. Plus it fits longer than most NBAIOs!

This video is long but it describes my journey with cloth, how it's changed my life, and me. It also talks about this community which has been my support system through this all. It's the main reason I've stuck with it through the years. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYfbZYygjLGbZ80 And the beginning of this video talks about how I came to the idea of cloth in the first place. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIXbgWifjdB5r80 I started cloth to save money. Then I got caught up in the world of "collecting the rainbows". I used it as an outlet to connect with other moms, like myself. i was depressed and a stay at home mom for the first time. I was isolated and cloth made me feel like I belonged somewhere. I've met amazing souls along the way and people I'm happy to call friends. Cloth became a lifestyle regardless of the price tag. Then I gave birth to my 4th baby and saw how much trash we did not go through by using disposables, since I was diapering 2. I started to slowly switch small things into my household over to more sustainable and/or reusable products. Cloth opened me up to a different lifestyle. It opened me up to a Way of living that I never thought I'd live. Cloth diapering is more than just a choice for me, it's something that's changed my life and the way that I see the world. ❤️

Love this stash! I have enough in my nb stash for 57 changes, but about 12 are Happy Flutes and 6 prefolds are preemie, so those probably won't last long. I also have 12 "Chinese" prefolds of unknown origin (besides China, I guess - but brandless) - so no idea how they will work. The rest are a mixture between different fitteds/prefolds/nb flats. Will fill any gaps with OS flats.

I can’t wait for more newborn diapering videos! I’m due in October and am starting to build my newborn stash (I started cloth at 5 months with my first). How many covers do you recommend? I have 16 flats and 12 prefolds and then I’m going to get a few aios but I’m not sure how many covers would be enough.

6-8 is a great minimum number that I think is comfortable for an everybody other day wash, especially if you plan to add another diapering system like ais to the mix. Also, congrats on your pregnancy! 💚

Also, you didn’t find cover with fitted/prefolds bulky?
@JaysNest
@JaysNest 6 жыл бұрын
Born smart isn't one I typically recommend because it's hit or miss for most moms. My last was a slow grower with chunky legs so they fit so well. Plus she wasn't a heavy wetter. The combination of all those things made me like the diaper in the first few months. But I'm pretty positive they'll have a new Newborn diaper out soon and as long as my baby still fits in newborns when it comes out, then I'll definitely do a review on it! I loved my Thirsties NAIO, but my friend didn't like it because it wasn't enough or her heavy wetter. So it can definitely be trial and error with these AIOs. lol I'd suggest buying them used if you want to try them. $12/each shipped is a great price for these because you can resell it for that price, too!

Please do a review for the happy flute cover. I have tiny 5lb babies and I would like to know how they fit small babies
@JaysNest
@JaysNest 6 жыл бұрын
It's surprisingly a small cover. I've seen Sweet pea covers fit babies as small as 6 lbs. so happy flute might fit a 5lb'er! All of my babies have weighed 7lbs at birth. I'm excited to see how it fits. I'll definitely review it! There are no reviews here on KZbin about it. A few people have done an overview of it and the features but that's it.

Jay's Nest I'd gotten the size 2 as well, but I think I got a faulty batch, they washed up really weird. Shrunk a lot and got super bulky in the middle.
@JaysNest
@JaysNest 6 жыл бұрын
I only have 1 in my stash but I used to have 4 (the others were thrown away) but some were shrunken down to the size of my size 1's! Then others were lopsided and uneven from shrinking. That's the bad thing about bamboo: it has the possibility of shrinking unevenly. Nicki's bamboo prefolds had that issue and so did diaper rite bamboo flats... but only on certain batches. I prefer my diaper rite bamboo prefolds as far a shelf bamboo prefolds go.

I was able to get most of my NB NAIO for $12/each! So hard to resist at that price lol. On earth day I did splurge on a few for $15. I couldn't ever buy them new without sale. I like them but they're pricey. Actually 90% of my stash is used. I've gotten amazing deals these past few months while building this stash. Most diapers I paid less than 50% of retail for them.

Jay's Nest when I was pregnant first time around I bought all second hand, but being a newbie I didn't get good quality stuff, plus baby came out super long and skinny, so I basically then had to build from scratch a second time, but decided to opt for new. I scoured sales and deals, but did wind up spending quite a bit over time. 😂🙈 Luckily we could afford it.

Do you use the oval yellow rimmed inserts with a cover? I am cloth diapering baby #2, and planning on doing primarily covers and prefolds.
@JaysNest
@JaysNest 6 жыл бұрын
I plan to if the baby needs the extra absorbency. The yellow trimmed inserts are hemp and super absorbent.. He/she will be here saturday, so we will see if we need them as a booster! But you could definitely use it by itself if you wanted to. Any inserts like bamboo, cotton, or hemp can go directly against the skin. The only insert you shouldn't put against the skin is microfiber.

Hello! Love your video’s! I’m a first time mom & having twins (boy & girl) and due in September. I’m starting my NB stash and can’t figure out how much I should buy. Any advice?
@JaysNest
@JaysNest 6 жыл бұрын
How often would you like to wash? The answer to that will definitely sway my answer. The average newborn goes through 10-12 changes. I always plan for the higher end: 15/day. My youngest went through 15/day for 3'months so I'm glad I didn't invest in a smaller stash because it wouldn't have worked for the amount of days I wanted to wash. Your babies could go through 8 changes/day but I wouldn't build a stash around that number. My third child, which was my first to be cloth diapered, went through 8 a day. I'd personally rather have too many than not enough. So the numbers I recommend will be roomy if you have a baby that only goes through 8-10/day. That means you can go longer without washing. Also the numbers I recommend will give you enough *clean* diapers while you're others are dirty and washing/drying. Especially if you plan to hang dry because that takes longer. It SUCKS to have to worry about not having enough diaper changes when you're running on very little sleep. For twins, they usually come out smaller than the average baby (7lbs). So covers with preemie prefolds and newborn prefolds, and also half flats are a great way to diaper a small baby. Thirsties preemie/NB covers and bummis super brite both fit around the 4-9lb range which is perfect for a small babies.
@ccwalker03
@ccwalker03 6 жыл бұрын
Jay's Nest Thanks! I’d planned on washing every other day if not everyday. I don’t plan on line drying. I did buy 7 Lalabye baby NB diapers & Thirsties natural NB all in one bundle pack which is 5. I wasn’t sure about getting prefolds because as you said twins are usually small so I wasn’t sure about the size.

Do you mi d me asking about how much you’ve spent on all your cloth diapers because I’m on $1,100 all with the cloth diapering essentials
@JaysNest
@JaysNest 5 жыл бұрын
Honestly that’s a great question 🙈 I’m not sure. Almost everything I bought used and for really cheap. I don’t necessarily cloth diaper to save money. It’s just more of a lifestyle for me. I sell diapers to fund other diapers. Sometimes I sell old clothes or furniture around the house that we don’t use. So a lot of what I spend is recycled money. I am a bargain shopper though. I usually look to spend 50% of the retail price on used diapers.

Awww I wish my new born stash would look like yours lol ! I have 35 lil Joey only 4 bought new and the rest used but I have to fix the elastics of about 10 because the elastics are very relaxed ...oh and have 24 of the orange prefolds(nb) and 12 of the yellow prefolds with like 6 covers.. I saw one of your previous videos where you say you like your smart bottoms diapers for older toddlers. My 18 month old is 30 pounds and I use ramparooz I know the spelling is wrong lol. But these fit tight on her . I was looking to get 5 covers from smart bottom but someone is selling 6 best bottoms for $90 they look like new but sigh I’m trying to find good deals because I am not working and I’m trying to get a bigger stash of the older baby because I only have 12 fuzzybunz (10-40) which are perfect!!! and 5 covers with like 12 gm red and brown prefolds lol well , please if you have any tips for me let me know :) and I am 5 1/2 months pregnant with my second one and plan to have 4-6 children :) I heard it’s not good to have a small stash idk if mine is considered small well I enjoy watching all your videos !

Smart bottoms covers are HORRIBLE. Do not get them. They’re sized small and awkward. They’re worse than the rumparooz OS covers! Smart bottoms Aios are sized generously. They’ll definitely last a long time but the absorbency isn’t great. It’s not great for heavy wetters. Best bottom OS isn’t great either. It’s cut really small. They’re “bigger” covers might be good though! I think they fit until 40lbs or so. I’ve never tried them so I can’t give you a personal experience. The best way to afford a big stash is to buy diapers slowly over time. If you want 2-4 more kids then you’ll have plenty of time to grow your stash and find what works for you ❤️

Did you get disposable diapers for your newborn also to have on hand or only cloth?

Do you like snaps or velcro best? Also where did you buy your thirsties naio and the ecoposh? I really want to get some ecoposh but I can't find any used or resonably priced

I bought some of my Thirsties on sale during earth day and with rewards points. My favorite place is to go to the Thirsties B/S/T on Facebook. They do go quickly though! Ideally I look for $12shipped for each of those. For ecoposh, it's hard to find those used for a decent price. It's taken me 5m to gather the ecoposh I have. I've spent $12 or less for each of them. The newborn cloth diaper bst on Facebook randomly has them. Sometimes you can find them there! I recently bought some from the " $1 cloth diaper auction group". I personally wouldn't pay more than $13shipped for each. Oh! Actually.. thinking about it, I did see a momma who had a huge lot of them and was selling individuals. I think it was on the fluff love BST.

Also, what do you stuff your apple cheeks size 1 cover with for the NB stage??
@JaysNest

Size NB bamboo prefolds are super trim and absorbent. Perfect for stuffing newborn pockets with! I'll also use my geffen NB hemp inserts. I'll most likely switch between the two depending on what's clean and what's not.

Funky fluff newborns, it's hard to find reviews on them. I got some second hand to try next year. I really liked lil joeys/thx, but I had some tiny bamboo boosters that I used with them, which extended their use considerably.

My baby is almost outgrown of newborns 😢 She's a fast grower. I thought about buying it but the price of it new isnt appealing lol and I couldn't find any on the swaps for a decent price. If my baby wasn't growing a pound a week I'd consider trying it out. Diana G bought some funky fluff nbs. She's due very soon! She only has a few weeks left. Maybe ask her if she can do a review:)

Hi there, the newborn fitted cloth diapers, (eco posh, green mountain clotheez workhorse ) you have to use a cover on those or no?
@JaysNest
@JaysNest 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you will need a cover to put ontop of the fitteds to make them waterproof

How many do recommend for a newborn?
@JaysNest
@JaysNest 5 жыл бұрын
I personally wouldn’t do less than 36 changes. So that could mean 8-10 covers and 36 flats. My babies are super poopers lol. Willow was going through 15-20/day in that first month. So 36 was comfy for me. If your baby isn’t a super pooper then you could get by with 20-24. My perfect number for a newborn stash is 45. I find myself most comfortable there!

So if let’s say 20-24 then how many for after the newborn stage if I wanted to do all in ones?
@JaysNest
@JaysNest 5 жыл бұрын
My recommendations stand the same for a one size stash. One size stashes need to last a few years. I think 20-24 is a great minimum amount so that you don’t get too much wear. You could probably do 15 if you wash everyday but your diapers will start to wear quickly. I started off with 12 diapers in my early journey and slowly built my stash over time!
