Another convincing win. I’ve seen some Villa fans say they were getting back into it just before the sending off but in going 4-5-1 out of possession we were setting them up to hit them on the break. Definitely a red in my opinion. There was needle before it especially from McGinn. Duran tried to get Schar with his left foot then made two movements with his right looking to harm him. Shearer said it was harsh but Duran could easily have straddled Schar by placing both feet either side of him. They tried to come here and bully their way to a result but couldn’t handle it themselves. We’ve the best midfield in the Premier League. The big difference now is our ability to get Bruno in and around the final third and his ability to get players in with little direct passes just like Murphys run for Isaks goal. Surely Dubs stays in goal even after Pope is back? Having a goalkeeper with feet and composure is proving to be better than a bag of nerves who hoofs it out of play
@Jettplayzgames3 күн бұрын
I think it does give Howe the option to stick with Dubs and not feel like he needs to rush Pope back once he’s available.
@jaredbowhay-pringle14603 күн бұрын
I think we already knew their relative strengths and weaknesses before Pope's most recent injury. Pope is a better shot stopper, but can't play the ball out at all. Dubravka hasn't put a foot wrong the past few games, but hasn't really had too much to do. For me Pope still just about edges it, particularly against stronger opposition.
@geordiedog17492 күн бұрын
If he’s still here. If not, I’d personally have Vlach because Nic Pope has somehow now become the complete opposite of what he used to be. He used to inspire assurance. Now you get nervousness. Not helped by 50,000 sharp intakes of breath when he gets the ball at his feet (like during the Arsenal game.)
@hjc99123 күн бұрын
Howe obviously deserves huge credit for this run (just as he deserved huge criticism a few weeks ago) and I'm glad we gave him time, but him refusing to dislodge Bruno from the 6 for that long is just another example of his stubbornness costing us. Same with Burn at LB for that long, Wilson, and now with Pope who should've been replaced by now. He'd be a top, top manager if he stopped being so sentimental
@luketaylor3483 күн бұрын
Captain hindsight here again! It could be the case that he didn't want to throw Tonali in straight away after a year without playing - can he trust him? What sort of message does it send if he just walks in? Burn although he had a poor run last year at LB was massively effective the year before in that role. No-one knew that Pope was not going to come back the same after his injury and were there any offers? No one also expected Wilson to be injured almost an entire year. I think managing a team is a lot more complex than the reductive process you seem to think it is.
@hjc99123 күн бұрын
@luketaylor348 How is that hindsight? We signed Tonali who played as the 6 at Brescia and in a double pivot at Milan. Everyone thought he would play 6 and Bruno at 8, he didn't, and Tonali at 8 wasn't working at all. The fact he didn't swap them round sooner after spending £55m on Tonali AS A 6, is criminal. You can criticise Howe you know? He isn't some oracle, he made mistakes and we were crap for a few months because of it. Yes, Burn was effective the year before. Football moves quickly and you have to move with it, not keep someone in the team because they were good a year ago when he was being targeted every week. The same with Pope. There were no offers for him because we didn't make him available. If Sam Johnstone and Aaron Ramsdale can get moves you don't think Nick Pope can? You have to make sales happen. And yes, everyone expected Wilson to be injured for that long. It's a 31yo Callum Wilson who couldn't stay fit when he was in his prime man. Grow up and admit Howe's a quality manager but he's made massive mistakes over the last few months.
@luketaylor3483 күн бұрын
@@hjc9912I would happily back the decisions of a manager who has managed nearly 700 games over the opinion of an eternal pessimist in the YT comments section. Again he has eased Tonali into the side as he does with nearly every player. You can call it "criminal", which is a bit hyperbolic, but it is just the approach Howe takes with every player. This is similar to what happened with Hall - who himself admitted that he was frustrated but ulimately not ready, which is why he went with Burn - because he could trust him more. Additonally I cannot understand why with the PSR restrictions why we would just transfer list Pope? Not sure where you have created the idea that we should have just sold him last year for no apparant reason. Again with Wilson - no one would have known that he would be out for that long. He does have a bad injury record but not to the extent it has been this year. Again, who was seriously interested in him with his injury record? As for the "grow up", that seems to be projection from you 😂

@@nolslifegrenEddie Howe has managed nearly 700 games as a manager. Im sure he could see that Tonali, long term would be invaluable to the team. In case you didn't notice he was suspended for nearly a year; the sensible move was to ease him back in. Yes he was keeping fit with the team but that is not the same as playing competitive football. I'm sure you would have also criticised Howe if he had overplayed him and then he got injured because of the amount he was playing for Italy as well.

That’s an interesting point. The idea with your centre backs is to have a ‘cat and a dog’ duo. One hunts like a dog and one holds back and watches like a cat. Burn and Schar are a bit atypical in that sense. They don’t fall into this algorithm. They both do a bit of both. When Sven’s fit his partnership with Schar is very typical cat and dog. Mind you, Dan and Fabs are great but Dan isn’t able to play the ball under pressure. So what’s happening now is Tonali does it instead on that side as well as centrally and Schar does his thing on the right. So, Tonali WITH Sven means we have a trio of ballers across the rear central area. And two cracking aggressive fullbacks to feed plus Tonali will be able to move forward during the first phase and therefore make his passes even more lethal.

6 more additions to this squad and we'll challenge any bastard out there. All the financial shod will be essentially moot, cause we wont have to splash out on several players every window, it'll all go into developing the youngins. The good fortune of eddies characteristics having gone through and done what he's done leaves us with the perfect man for the situation as most "TOP" managers are used to "TOP" players and aren't geared towards improving the players in the same way with the same gusto. Its saving so much time and money. The balance of the squad atm is like damascus steel.
