This is the first film of two fantastic old films that I won on eBay with a projector it is footage of old Newcastle and looks to date from the 1930s but not sure as it has no date on it, I found it fascinating and thought it would be of interest to other people so I have shared it on here for everyone to enjoy.
If you enjoy looking at old cine films, please subscribe to my channel as I have a large collection of films that I am working through and I try to upload at least two new films a week of clips that I think could be of interest to other people.
You can buy me a coffee if you want to help support what I am doing at

Amazing to think there are still people alive today who were around at this time, as young kids.

It's not just amazing g to see old building's standing , it's remarkable, as all they want do today is tare down any buetifull history of our past and stick ugly huge tin shed building's that fall down in about 70 years ,not like the buetifull architecture of our victorian past

It’s like going back in a time machine. Amazing. Imagine when these old films are 200, or 300 years old. They will give glimpses into the local past that people of the future will find incredible.

Thanks for uploading both videos, I work in a care home, looking after people who have dementia, and wonder what they were like during the 1930's. Some of them might have finished school or just got married, something like that or in their teens. I'm back on for my night shifts and I will look at the residents differently in respect with the fact that they were people doing day to day tasks and raising families, going to work like we do before they had this terrible disease. Also I find Newcastle fascinating with all its history.

Only just Geordie, the City Council had different ideas in the 1950's. They wanted with the help of developers to turn a beautiful city centre into a concrete jungle.

Thank you for posting this. My Nanna and Grandpa were from Newcastle Upon Tyne, leaving England for jobs in the USA at Ford, but landing in farm work in Canada before finally settling in the Detroit area. My great-grandfather(nanna's father) was an engineer on ship that were hybrids, both sail and steam. I am still looking for the ship that was painted and hung over their England home, called the H.M.S. Helen Newton…anyone having a photo of that ship, I'd love to see it. Anyways - this is the ONLY view I have ever seen in movies of Newcastle Upon - so, thanks again!

It won't have been HMS Helen Newton as there hasn't been a Royal Navy ship of that name.

@@petertyson1112 This is probably why I have never been able to corroborate my Nanna's identification. Could it be...it was only called The Helen Newton; no Royal Navy Ship, but just a merchant type of vessel? My great grandfather was Thomas McCabe...ship engineer, according to my grandmother. Thank you kindly for bringing this to my/our attention. UPDATE: I found a Helen Newton iron ship(it would be a steamer with sail, as described by my grandmother, or I think so...anyway because of your comment, a search yielded this, where it was built in Sunderland, close to Newcastle. I'd love to see a photo of it, but does anyone know where and how to find one , if it even exists? Thanks again, Peter! books.google.com/books?id=eOsNAAAAQAAJ&pg=PA63&lpg=PA63&dq=British+ship+named+Helen+Newton+of+Hull&source=bl&ots=Cs-k-hjoYg&sig=ACfU3U2TwsgDAJhCdPnM0-4xDboHxyq9xA&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwja27GqltLvAhVVZ80KHazzDREQ6AEwEnoECCQQAw#v=onepage&q=British%20ship%20named%20Helen%20Newton%20of%20Hull&f=false

@@Reachowt you could try putting "Sunderland built ship" with the year and tonnage into Google and see what comes up? Probably not your particular ship, but something that would have been very similar. Even in the 19th century shipyards built standardised ships.

@@petertyson1112 Good idea, but so far nothing. I did find this site: www.searlecanada.org/sunderland/sunderland042.html It was nice to find a site that listed this iron ship, at 856 tons and 246 long, etc. built in 1880 in Sunderland. I'll continue the effort, thanks again, Peter.

Thanks for posting the old film of Newcastle, my mom and dad were from there. It's nice to get a glimpse of what their home city looked like back in that time period when they would have been very young. They moved to Canada in the 50's.

this is fantastic, for me especially in the second film, the building of delaval road armstrong road, and forest road, then to see the mission hut at the bottom of delaval road absolutley brilliant, we went to sunday school in there as kids, late 50s early 60s, take a look at brittain from above and youll see the exact location of the hut, wonderful memories of scotchy , the world has certainley changed with a big question mark over "for the better" !!! jacqueline hollis
