@@northeastnostalgic5071 I actually worked at the Vermont Hotel and was involved with the construction of the Above Bar on top of the hotel so I was privileged to some outstanding views from there! I will definitely visit the castle at some time as it looked amazing in your video.

@@robd3085 You need to go there before your knees start to give out. The climb gets more tiring the older you get.

Just discovered this channel. Enjoying the content so far - though the narration / voiceover could be a little less echoy! Also Newcastle has a castle..? Clue’s in the name! 😏😉 Love the videos! Keep it up! 😊

Thank you for your feedback and I'm pleased you're loving my videos! I'm still new to KZbin video processes, so hopefully in the future I can invest in an external mic to improve my video quality :)

@@northeastnostalgic5071 It's not a huge issue and I thought you'd already be aware of it - but keep up the great work! Nice to hear a local voice and see local places being highlighted! All the best!

When I filmed there I left out the 'w' in Newcastle in the title of my video. Very embarrassing for a Geordie🙃 Filming on the stairs? You're braver than I am. I have to hold tightly on to the rail. The first time I went there was no rail to hold on to. The second time they had a rope rail. There are a LOT of stairs too. I'm sure there are twice as many as when I climbed them in the 1970s. 😰😂 You used to be able to get into the little turrets at the top. I don't know why they are fenced off now. I never ventured near the edge as I'm not good with heights. (I get airsick on a thick carpet). 🤢 I'm afraid the graffiti isn't medieval. The roof and battlements weren't added until 1811. The date next to the name looks like 1854 possibly. If you think about it, having the bottom of the castellation's at the same level as your feet isn't going to give you much protection from arrows. The keep was used as an air raid shelter in WWII because it had very thick walls. I don't think I would like to have used it as although the walls are very thick the roof is quite thin so any bomb that went through would have caused a great deal of destruction to the interior. Killingworth Billy used to stand on a plinth at the end of Stephenson's High Level Bridge. You will have seen the loco at the North Tyneside Steam Railway. Killingworth Billy is the third oldest steam locomotive in existence and the oldest standard gauge loco.
