Great review - I was really impressed with the CV joint (looked like) used to allow power transmission through the steering angle. Really clever, probably really reliable, and low cost.

Took a rokon for a test drive in the 90s..never forgot that but the price did not allow me to ever get one..this is more "my speed"..the only issue I see at least where I go is the exposed chains front and rear..limbs and debris will get caught up in there..could be a issue..LOVE THE CHANNEL!

Well, I can see one area where they cheeped out... 6:25 They went the skate board wheel route for the chain tensioner/chain guide. That chain is gonna eat through it really quickly. A sprocket would have been a much better choice and lasted way longer.

If they are aligned properly they last surprisingly well. Sprocket is way better still yet though.

this is why I never owned one ..and this one goes a long way toward bringing the price down but at a cost of loosing some very useful features like the tanks in the wheels and shaft driven wheels instead of chain ... front wheel drive on a motorcycle is a complex undertaking ... it's bound to cause a price hike if done right and no I don't have stock in Rokon

I bought a Rokon in 89 from a dealer in Logan Utah. It was down so frequently, that I named it Linda Lovelace. To be fair though, it only broke when I used it and was a mile or more from my rescue vehicle.
@louisbabycos1064 ай бұрын
I hear that mechanical gas engine AWD motorcycles are a nightmare to maintain. For the non mechanically inclined novice rider a conventional RWD motorcycle is a better choice . If you must have AWD and the range is short and it's not a SHTF get out of dodge motorcycle than an electric motorcycle might be the best choice for a novice rider who isn't mechanically inclined.
@thinkingbubba324 ай бұрын
@@louisbabycos106 yes and no. The AWD bikes and rear wheel bikes do not live in the same camp, so they'll often only be choices for folks with those specific needs. As to maintenance - new engines are far more reliable, but the longer a bike sits unused, or under maintained, the larger the chance for the carb jets to suffer enameling from the corn sugars in gas. I'm still waiting for an EFI version engine, or possibly a conversion for EFI. When it comes to maintenance complexities, the more parts the harder they are to maintain, so yeah. I took my Rokon down to the frame to address a U-Joint failure, and that was in no way a fun, or easy task. At the time I owned mine I was sad to find cheap hardware (nuts and bolts) that were already rusted in place. Warranty was another issue I found to be a nightmare. After 14 months and three mechanical issues, I was told they were due to use or abuse. Well, that being the case, an off-road vehicle is expected to be used in environments where the bike interacts with water, rocks, logs and other challenging environments. So unfortunately, I suspect still, abuse will be their default position, the same as when you buy a new Stihl Chainsaw, and it starts having carb problems. Anyone I've encounter as a Stihl certified repair facility suggests "bad fuel." After my 3rd saw failure I went with the EFI Stihl i500. No more carbs should be the chant of all small engine users.

if they used a shaft for the front wheel's drive system rather than a chain, they could have had it have a moving splined section and given it front suspension for extra comfiness.

has to have two counter-rotating shafts... otherwise they get "torque steer". anything that prevents the front from rotating will react and twist the bars out of your hands. violently. the most critical bit is the bit they all forget to include... the differential. the front and the back dont rotate at the same speed, except when going perfectly straight and the tyres are exactly the same diameter/circumference. any other time, one wheel has to scrub. drag. slip.

Looks to be pretty well thought out. It needs more Highway Speed and more low gears for pulling thins.. Thus it needs a two speed auxiliary gear box. It also needs a snorkel on the air cleaner for an air intake much higher than it has now. The Comments in the Video said the air intake is under the seat but I can't see that.

I own the older ROKON's built in the 80's with the 2 cycle West Bend Design Motors. Company was sold to Chrysler. Then Called Chrysler Super Bee 820 Motors. Used in many applications. GoKarts, Saws, Soil Tamp Jumping Jacks, Etc. They were very great motors. Then sold off to US Motors. They went Bankrupt. ROKON International was out of Luck along with our government getting rid of 2 cycle motors. So ROKON went with small gasoline type minibike engines. They are still great off road trail bikes, but expensive even when I bought mine. Mainly due to hand built in America and Limited Sales. Mostly Sold To Government Army's Around The World and Others Needing A Go Anywhere Vehicle Not Limited To Width Of Trails. If you can spend the money we'll worth it. They are not fast, 25 mph but not meant to be. Can climb anything & go anywhere you can hike on foot, but you don't have to hike on a ROKON & it will get you back. They Will Last Forever With Minor Maintenance. I Do Wish They Would Put Even A Honda Motor In There, Because They Are Very Dependable. Sincerely Mr T.
