What's a childhood meal that you remember eating regularly but haven't had since you were a child?

@NewfieLifestyle baked beans like you make them and dark rye bread. Mom was 100 percent Norwegian, so rye bread was something she and her family made.
@NewfieLifestyle4 ай бұрын
@user-fs6ou3fk9p rye bread would be perfect with the beans. We always had fresh bread rolls taken right from the oven whenever mom made beans. When mom was going to make a batch of bread, she would make her beans so we would have fresh bread rolls.

Nice!!! Makes me hungry. Where I come from in southern New Brunswick my mother would boil the potatoes.... cut them up into small chunks and fry them in butter with the onions and corned beef..... letting it all sit long enough to get a browned on crunch... not burned, but just a buttery crunch. The mashed version looks super amazing too! Just what we were raised with..... I'm always open to trying new versions. Embrace the differences my friends! Enjoy it all.

I'm sure I would like this. I'm from Alabama, and I'm not saying that everyone in Alabama or the south cooks corned beef hash the way I do, but I would say it's a fairly common way to cook it. We cut the potatoes in small-medium cubes. Then fry the potatoes with diced onion added about halfway through the cooking process. Add the corned beef when the potatoes are done and browned. Put a lid on for a few minutes and the corned beef will crumble. Remove the lid and brown a little more, if desired.
@NewfieLifestyle3 ай бұрын
Mom has cooked it your way as well. While we were doing this video, mom said there's another way of doing this, and that's frying out the potatoes a d, then adding the corn beef. I need to give that process a try as well. Fried potato sounds even better

Home made corned beef is crazy easy, you control the salt content, cheaper than canned. Beef brisket, rub with salt and spices ( pickle spices is good), leave in ziplock bag in fridge for 7-9 days, rinse, cook until tender( stovetop or pressure cooker), Cook up chopped onions, add cubed parboiled potatoes and cubed beef , cook until crusty, you are done.

We have corned fish as well, which here in Newfoundland it means cod fishing that's been socking for a few hours in a salt solution. So I ashamed the corned beef is beef that's been salted or cured and then packaged because the corned beef is extremely salted.
