Sea of Thieves and No Man's Sky were crap, but I feel they had less of a negative to go through since they weren't as hyped by as big of a company while also not having quite so much work put into it already. It's probably the lighting. @@-._____- Yeah...because only photorealistic games look outdated. I don't agree anyway though, I don't think many people would find the better looking games from 2012 outdated and those were released near on 10 years ago. Early 3D graphics were so damn shoddy that they became dated very quickly as small incremental improvements in hardware and efficiency allowed for dramatic upgrades to what were extremely rudimentary graphics. Having 10 rather than 5 polygons for the a character's clothing and torso seemed like an insane leap. Leaps in graphical fidelity of games these days are massive. The worlds are so insanely detailed though often with so little rough edges that it becomes increasingly hard to notice. The difference between 500 and 5000 polygons for a chest model don't have the same impact they did when graphics were simplistic and crappy.
@Brunosky_Inc5 жыл бұрын
@@7dayspking Thing is, an attempt at photorealism has its fidelity break a lot quicker than something more stylized, which even when being outdated in the technical department it can still look charming. There's a reason why, despite coming out later, Twilight Princess's looks aged so much worse than Wind Waker's.
@7dayspking5 жыл бұрын
@@Brunosky_Inc Twilight Princess is no attempt at photorealism. I've not played either game but I did a quick search on here, there's a lot of ugly going on in Wind waker and in Twilight princess. I find wind waker harder to look at though. We're not comparing 'photorealism vs stylized here'. We're comparing highly detailed graphics vs completely undetailed graphics both being very stylized. On crappy hardware the more detail you attempt to show the less space on asset you'll have to show it. Hardware is so good now that you can show more detail than the player is able to even discern at an almost flawless to the player's perception graphical fidelity. Which is why Assassin's creed Unity looks a hell of a lot less outdated and prettier than Bandai's latest anime game releases despite how 'stylized' and simplistic they are. Graphics are so good now that it's difficult to build a beautiful looking simplistically graphiced game.

Dmc5 is my favorite because of how much they evolve Nero and Dantes moves while keeping most of the same attacks from before, they feel so alive rather than 3d models, when they swing the sword stays in their hands until they manually put them on their back and even drag behind while running, if you aim with Nero and there´s no enemies to shoot he holds his gun close to his face while looking around cautiously, a lot of amazing little detail

A bit that was pointed out to me by Vaati for Sekiro was also that the animation details still really convey the character at that moment. The example given is the two times you go to fight in that flower field. First at the begining when the character is in a poor condition, mentally and physically. Then later when you go again and you see he's focused, ready, fit. And all that was needed was the hand motions as he draws his blade. I don't usually go all gahgah over animation, but the depth of lore behind that motion alone is something I love. It's the reason for games to exist (Well at least from an animation point in my opinion).

Luigi's Mansion 3's animation seriously just made me love Luigi that much more. Sometimes people just call Luigi a cowardly loser (probably older brothers pfft), but I don't think being easily scared and anxious automatically makes him a coward. This little champion spends literal hours powering through his fears in order to do what he needs to and fight some ghosts. I remember VERRRY early on, his only option is to drop down a dark laundry chute to avoid danger. He hesitates, probably cause the prospect of falling down a dark tunnel for who knows how deep is preeetty scary, but for a very brief second or two (this is the quick animation touch that I loved so much-->)he takes some quick deep breaths, then just goes for it! He's obviously still not okay after making the decision, but he managed to pump himself up juuuust enough to make that decision and do what he had to do to escape. Both of the playable characters have a different animation for this, and this one small animation communicates pretty much everything you need to know about their personalities. Whereas War is stoic and grumpy, so he gives the dog a couple tentative pats on the head, before getting annoyed when the dog jumps on him and licks his face. 1:15 Don't forget that power is also huuugely influenced by sound. Play a game without sound. Then play it again with sound. Things will feel a lot more impactful, no matter the visuals. Anthem has some great sound design, hence making the javalin (is that how u spell it?) feel especially powerful :]

I'm loving Control and experienced the same phenomena you describe here, though I do feel the need to point out that in in-game dialogue scenes there seems to be a weird gap between the character's teeth and their mouths that I find a little distracting. It's like everyone is hiding something in their gums

For me the female animation in Pokemon Sword when your character is walking down the stairs was mesmerizing in its detail!

Can you talk about the Yakuza series? Specifically how the heat actions are animated? I've always loved how powerful the attacks in those games looked

Extremely pleased to see River City Girls on the list! I'm not surprised it's not the talk of the town, it's a niche genre to begin with so it's natural, but it's nice to see it get some recognition, it's so damn charming. And speaking of charm, I would also add Gris somewhere on that list.

Shadowbringers. The stunning animation is a huge part of the excitement and love that people have for FFXIV. It's often cleverly used during phase changes of lengthy boss battles to give players a bit of a rest and something nice to look at. Not only that but the XIV team at Square-Enix keep pushing the boundaries of what animation can do for MMORPGs. They are relying less on artificial looking "red boxes" for avoiding boss attacks, and instead focussing on strongly signposted visual cues on the character models themselves to tell players how to react. And while most cutscenes are still fairly static due to budget constraints, their engine allows them to create dynamic sequences for important story beats, and it's obvious how talented their animators are when given the chance to exhibit their skills.

Nothing on how DMC5 was able to achieve fluid animation blending at 60fps?

Luigi's Mansion 3. The animation in that is simply awesome! We definitely need a video dedicated to this game alone.

i kinda would like to see a compare and contrast of the "Monster Rancher" series with the "Pokemon" series. the monster rancher series has had a very strong focus on raising and training your monsters outside of battle for at least 2 decades i think.

Tangle Tower was quite the gem released on Mobile, Switch, and PC. A charming detective game made by the creators of Snipperclips, similar to the investigation segments of Ace Attorney, with gorgeous, intricate backgrounds and a charming doodle-esque style for the characters and certain interface elements. I really enjoy the wavering lines of the characters.

Hello, new subscriber here! I was actually surprised that Sayonara Wild Hearts wasn't in here. If you haven't checked that game out yet I highly recommend it! It's short and sweet and packed with visual story telling and lively animations. I believe you'd have real fun breaking it down!

Admittedly I haven’t watched your other “favorite animation” videos, so I don’t know if you’ve mentioned it, but definitely check out Rain World. It handles procedural animation nearly perfectly and it’s objectively beautiful.

This was a great list! I'd add Wargroove to that great pixel art category. I've never loved the look and feel of a strategy game more.

I only got to play it this year on switch, but 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim has some STELLAR animation work for its genre. Every character was puppeted to have incredibly unique animation loops and posing for a variety of interactions, and the presentation of the game enhances that level of detail even more.

My animation of the year is usually just "whatever Way Forward did this year" so glad to see River City Girls get so much praise

Smile For Me was so charming, albeit the animation was minimal. Things like cheering up a character and seeing those blue sparkles appear, and the aesthetic of photorealism vs. cartoony merged together always made me smile.

The part about Pokemon SwSh that impressed me the most was the visual storytelling/characterization with the trainers. I was especially appreciative that the main character wasn't one-tone like in SM.

@@GrandArchPriestOfTheAlgorithm There's many things to say about SM, but for some reason seeing the MC's face stay in one particularly blank expression the whole game... It reminded me of Stepford people.

Pokémon is a very mixed bag of animation. You got some real great ones, but then you have ones where the model literally stands still while sliding across the ground…
