I feel like this is a genius way to debut. I'll explain why down below. 1). 'Attention' is like them grabbing out people's attention to them being a fresh, new girl group that showed up out of nowhere. They introduced themselves with a vibey and groovy RnB track, i wonder if this made people started to pay 'attention' to them (pun intended, of course) and made them curious, "Who are these new girls that just popped out of nowhere?" 2). They answered our curiosity by releasing 'Hype Boy', as basically the track that's meant to hook everyone. With 4 different MVs, NewJeans invites us to dive in to their Teen Crush story, revealing whom their 'Hype Boy's are (pun intended, again). This track, in my opinion, is meant to show their acting skills in each MVs. Alongside with that, Ador made a great marketting move to make the viewers curious about the 4 Hype Boy stories that intentionally made them to listen to the song 4 times! Hence, the song keeps on repeating inside your head, does it not? 3). 'Hurt'. You know it, this track is surprisingly a vibey, slow RnB that gives a soft and comfort feels to both eyes and ears of the viewers. I feel like this track is meant to show off NewJeans' singing skills (which i think is very very impressive and i personally love it) and their gorgeous visuals. Through 'Hurt', they're showing their vocal colors and angelic harmonizations. The song is too good that it hurts... (pun intended, again) 4). Last but not least, 'Cookie'! As i have expected, 'Cookie' is meant to show off their fluid-like dancing skills with fun and synchronized movements. The song feels so groovy with a touch of electronic elements in it, making more sense why this song is really good to be dancing to (i'm not saying this as if other songs are not suitable for dancing, hell no). 5). And finally, the name "NewJeans" itself. Min Heejin is truly a genius mastermind by showing the double pronunciation of the name being spelled as "NewJeans" and "New Genes". - The "NewJeans" one, well, is meant to show the versatility of the jeans itself, meaning that eventhough it's just a regular jeans, you can mix it up with anything! This proves the point where NewJeans have been releasing 4 songs with different purposes like i have listed above, showing this group's versatility (and i agree). - The "New Genes" one is i think to show that this group is a new generation one, proven by their RnB released tracks (in which i think quite rare for a group to debut with this genre). Also mentioning how they're debuting at such young age, their whole debut feels like a nostalgia of how youthful and dreamlike the teenage feels like and they're embracing it again with this debut. So far, 10/10 for this creative debut concept and everything. I'm hoping that they can be the "New Genes" of the future life of Kpop. Well done, Ador!

Actually, the lyrics are not about the real "cookie". It stands for "CD". Because Koreans used to say "bake CDs" to move the data of music from one CD to another when it comes to music. Older generations know this.

Personally I interpreted it as Love(related to their concept of youthful love) and music(related to their first work project) and their outfits they mean business without nothing dirty. But I feel like because most of time people are used to “sexualised double intended lyrics” that they would typically jump into that kind of conclusion. Glad they explained the song beforehand. I think it'd be better if you knew Korean as all Korean comments on different platforms are saying its cute lyrics but english speakers are seeing innuendos especially from bad translations. tbh i just thought its a cute song when i heard it the first few times and never even noticed anything wrong with it until people started saying this about the lyrics. I think people are just overanalysing every little thing about new jeans now because of the mhj scandal and seeing things that are not even there. i swear you can pick any 4th gen group and do the same with their lyrics because its very easy to project sexual innuendos with the English language even when its not there.
