Explaining The MV: Ador confirmed, Cool With You is a modern adaptation of the Greek myth of 'Psyche and Eros'. It tells the story of Eros (Hoyeon) giving up her godly status (the part where she was standing in the rain) and choosing her love. NewJeans appears as a guardian angels who accompanies God and follows the narrative contemplatively… the guy you see at the end(Tony Leung) returns her back to her former self making the human she was in love with fall in love with someone else and she becomes invisible again!! I think the story is based off the mythological story of Cupid and psyche. Hoyeon is Cupid and she can make people fall in love but can’t fall in love herself as people can’t see her. New jeans are her guardian angels as to speak. She falls in love with psyche. At the end of side A when she takes her clothes of and stands in the rain she is asking Aphrodite to let her become human so she can be with her love Psyche. In B side she is human and starts a relationship with psyche and enjoying life as a human. However Aphrodite (Tony Leung) finds out and turns her back into cupid making her partner forget about her and not see her. Because she is Cupid again he falls in love with the girl next to Hoyeon. Sorry that was so long tried my best to explain and hope it helps clear up the story 👍

its a metaphor eluding to the story of cupid (hoyeon), the psyche (micol), and venus (tony). this is the painting of love and psyche they were looking at in the beginning. newjeans are her guardian angels i believe, because they are the only ones that can see her. hoyeon is cupid, her job is making people fall in love. but she starts wanting love for herself too and fell in love with a human- micol. and she abandons her job and just follows him around hopelessly. he can't see her, no humans can see her. (confirmed when hoyeon looks in the mirror and she has no reflection) at the end of side a, where she takes her clothing off in the rain and looking up at sky, it symbolizes her asking to become human; this is her own way of striking herself w cupid's arrow. side b picks off where side a ends, she is now human and we can see that because her clothes changes from an ethereal, flowy black fabric to regular human-like clothing, and people can now physically see her-- micol can see her. they start falling in love throughout side b. at the end, tony (venus/aphrodite) takes revenge by making hoeyon into a cupid again- thus nullifying her human status meaning micol can't see her and he forgets about the time they shared. ultimately tony made him fall in love with someone else (that girl on the street) because she disobeyed her job as cupid its such a heartbreakingly beautiful music video, with a deep meaning and a retelling of mythology. everyone wants love and deserves love, whether they are human or otherworldly deity/being

I think this story is based on Psyche and Cupid which is the painting the museum Danielle is showing. So Hoyeon is a cupid who is sad because she always makes others fall in love but can't do it herself. When she sees Micol she falls in love but he can't see her because she is a cupid (hence why she had no reflection) so she follows him until she gives up her powers to be human (the rain scene). NewJeans are like angels watching her and at the end, Tony Leung comes to return her to her former self and makes her human fall in love with another and she returns to invisibility.

So the video is literally about Psyche and Eros mythology, but I have a theory about a 2nd meaning to it as well. So this is the same director for Ditto and OMG. He tends to make the story about fan and idol "relationship" with each other. I think Hoyeon represents the idol where idols are expected to stay loyal to the fanbase and not enter a romantic relationship, but fans eventually grow up and find their own relationships, and she's always left alone and behind. Eventually, she finds someone who's loyal to her as a fan for a while, and you can make a comparison to ditto mv because whenever they're on a date we see her from the male point of view, but it's through a hand held camera. So we can assume he's a fan the same as Ban Heesoo was. In the end, Lee Heung represents maturity, and the fan ends up finding his own irl relationship, and Hoyeon is left once again.

However VENUS, (Tony Leung) finds out and turns her back into cupid making her partner forget about her and not being able to see her. to punish her for falling for a human he basically makes psyche fall for a different human girl. in the original story cupid is a guy and psyche is a girl but they switched the roles for this. ppl are also speculating that new jeans play the muses in greek mythology who tell the stories. i personally think new jeans are the ones that snitched on her to venus cuz they’re the only ones that are constantly watching her throughout the videos . ❤👏👏

this is a story of Cupid and Venus. Cupid, whose duty is to create love between people, is starred by hoyeon, in which case she has the ability to create love between people by taking a glimpse on that person. This can be apparently shown when she was seeing the woman then to the man in the lift, then results in love between them(obviously this cupid creates live by glimpsing/eye-targeting people instead of shooting arrow). Cupid is a god, so she cannot be seen by normal people. One day, she fall in love with a human, resulting in the incapability of focusing on her duty, in which case we can see couples arguing/break up(which are not supposed to happen due to presence of Cupid who supposed to create love). Here shows that Cupid has lost her focusing on duty and she has violates the rule of god. then she went to the rain, naked, respresenting her washing away her status as a god and become a human, who wears human's clothes. Then she become a human, and can be seen by the man, and they became couple. They have a great time together until... at the traffic light, Hoyeon(cupid) noticed a grey-haired man in black suit(in the scene is the suit of the god, since when hoyeon is a god, she also wears black attires). The man is Venus. Owing to the dereliction of her duty as a Cupid, the man transform hoyeon back from human to god state as a punishment. Thus, the human she loves cannot noticed her anymore, together with all those memories together being eliminated( you can notice the changes on the black guy's expression, he obviously changed from grinning(to her) then to smiling and his sight switch to the girl behind hoyeon.) The worse part is, Hoyeon become invisible and also a god, her ability came back. And so, she looked back at the girl, and activate her Cupid power, creating love between the black guy and the girl behind her. You can imagine those agony and grief and heartbroken,like you have been together with a person you love for so long, then you become invisible, all the memories are gone, and worse than that, you create love between your partner and a stranger, even accidentally. That feeling of regret is the worst part.

In side A, you can see our hero, Cupid, Hoyeon, making the blonde women fall in love with her destined partner. I don't think she "follows" people around but kinda "guides" them to their 'one'. Anyway, when she meets the guy, she's meant to guide him to his destined partner. Cuz she as Cupid, that's her job. Whenever she sees someone, she has to unite them with their destined one that maybe is around. However, mirroring the first scene with the blond women. She enters the elevator with the guy and another women who I believe is the guy's destined partner. But, she doesn't make them interact and can fall in love because she's taken an interest in the guy herself. And so she's committing a sin by taking what not "hers." Newjeans, the guardian angels, knowing there are going to be consequences are worried about her, but they sing on and on about her feelings and love for the guy. At the end of side A, she walks under the rain. I believe this scene may hold a lot of symbolism. Regardless, it makes her a normal human being and so she makes herself be *seen* (I'd like to note that she held an umbrella at the start of the mv before it rained and didn't make the rain touch her as oppose to what she did at the end.) In side B after she becomes seen, she goes to the guy and make him fall in love with her. The angels continue on singing sadly, and at last, Cupid gets her punishment for manipulating fate, taking what's not hers, and falling in love when she's not meant to. As their god apperas suddenly behind the guy, her love, and turns everything back to its original and meant to be state. God bestows upon her the true role of "Cupid" again, and, as a result, she becomes invisible again. But it's worse because now she knows what love is and how it feels. She gets to see her love, forgetting all about her at once right in front of her eyes like nothing had happened between them while she gets to remember it forever. Heartbreaking. As she goes to watch her angels. She knows that yeah, they knew, and they were worried about me. She realises something and comes to terms with it. She continues watching angels singing and dancing for a little bit (maybe gratefully?). Accepts her fate and walks on.

it's based on the picture at the beginning Side A MV, Eros and Psyche. Hoyeon is Eros god of love she makes people fall in love. But she at the same time falls in love with Psyche the main guy character so she has to give up her godly status and become normal human being in order to date him. In Side B MV the old guy is Aphrodite which is Eros's father coming to remind her to come back to work and he made Psyche fall in love with another girl, so at the end Eros turns back to become a god again

I figure she makes people fall in love but can’t be with anyone as she is some type of “spirit”. She falls for dude following him around and not doing her job. New Jeans are also spirits watching her as well. She decides to shed her cloak and become human to be with who she loves. Well we know that can’t work out so another spirit, the older gentleman comes and has the guy fall for someone else. Possibly his true love. Not sure about the end though. I think she might be stuck as a human now that can see the spirits. But it seemed like everyone ignored her in the crosswalk so I am not sure.

judging by the painting the mc was staring at this would be a story inspired by the myth of psyche and eros. the og story goes something like: psyche was super pretty, afrodite was jealous because people mistook the mortal psyche for her so she sent her kid eros to make psyche fall in love with a monster. eros done goofed and shot himself too so he fell in love with her. later because all her sisters got married but psyche couldn't find a suitable husband her parents went to get advice from the oracle pythia. she told em to drop the kid on some mountain and there she would find and fall in love with a monster. for some god damn reason her parents left her there and she did fall in love with an invisible monster. that invisible monster wasn't a monster but eros, aka cupid. the two hit it off but because of her sisters' advice psyche looked at the monster to see who he was. as she was doing that, eros got burned with some hot oil from her lamp or something and took off to teh heavens. later psyche asks aphrodite for forgiveness and she puts her to do some giga hard tasks which end with her in the underworld falling in a deep asleep because of the cloud of darkness. eros once healed from the burns went and found her and asked zeus to help him with the situation. psyche then is given the drink of the gods, ambrosia and became immortal and the goddess of the soul, she married eros and even had a baby, hedone. i think the mv is inspired by the old tale but it's a different story because the rain, which i suppose is ambrosia, does the opposite, it makes her human instead of making her a god. it would make sense for the actress to be psyche here but she is shown having the same powers as eros, so i find it hard to tell which of the two she is supposed to be and whether tony leung is the actual eros or aphrodite. also the meaning of the tale seems to be different too, cuz in the myth we see a happy ending whereas here my girl gets cockblocked by tony.
