I've always used the Revlon Colorsilk, the regular one. I've used it for YEARS now and it's amazing. It's only $3 at my Walmart. I do have to get 2 boxes tho cause my hair is so long, but still $6 for 2 boxes. Even the lady who always cuts my hair says it seems like it was made for my hair (texture, etc). lol I agree, getting your hair dyed at the salon is VERY expensive. Mine will be $65 just for all over dye plus more if I want highlights/etc. I don't have that much money to spend. :/ That color looks great on you! :) Love your videos!

So you dye the darker color on the root of your hair and the lighter color on the end of your hair. I got a bit confused there. Im dyeing my hair soon and i did not that you can use many colors to give your hair more dimension!! Great video by the way!
@samanthann926 жыл бұрын
oanh lai sort of but not quite. I use the colors back and forth through out so that there is dimension and just keep the dark shade through the roots so it looks more natural. The colors aren’t too drastically different. Just enough so it’s not all uniform.

Hi Samantha, Thanks for your fantastic hair dye videos they are so detailed and very informative. With not washing your hair for a few days before applying the box dye, would it matter if there is some product in there? I usually put anti frizz product after I wash my hair- but I wonder if this would affect the dying process a few days later. Or is it better to just wash hair (without applying any antifrizz product after) ..wait a few days and then apply dye? Thanks a lot and seasons greetings from Australia. :)

I have no idea. I am not a professional. I do not mix two together I just go back and forth between two to get dimension. If you want to mix two shades together I would imagine you need to get a bowl from Sally's (not tin or aluminum). You need a brush (the kind they use in a salon) and then could add the two products together. I am not sure how that would work though.

@samanthann925 жыл бұрын
Sana Alam I’m not really sure how that would help unless you’re purchasing the same colors in which case it won’t look the same on you unless you have the exact same hair color as me. I used the darker color in my roots so it would look more natural. I also used the darker color around the bottom of my hair that would always naturally be darker as it doesn’t get sunlight. I then used the lighter color wherever I would want dimension and natural highlights and used the darker one in between that going back and forth. You want to gently blend the lighter color with the darker roots as you apply so their isn’t a straight light. You just rub your hair up and down and that does it. I showed all of this so I’m not sure what you’re misunderstanding. Anyway, as long as the two colors use use aren’t too different you should be fine. Mine are drastic because my hair is dyed already and color doesn’t show up too much. If you have virgin hair that has never been dyed it will show up more. If you want to use two colors, which you do not have to, you can use maybe a medium brown and an ash blonde so that the difference is more subtle. If you are that nervous just go to the salon. I am not a professional. This is just what works for me.

Hi! I have been looking for the perfect hair color and I really think yours, of all the videos i've watched here on youtube, is the BOMB! I just want to ask what kind of blonde would you recommend in lieu of honey blonde that you used? coz unfortunately, we dont have honey blonde in stores :( and, did you still mix the white liquids from both of the white bottle? or just the small bottles? and lastly, should I consider getting medium or light brown because my hair is darker? sorry too many questions haha
@samanthann928 жыл бұрын
They don't sell Honey Blonde in stores here either, I buy it online from Target. The luminista line doesn't make a comparable blonde and as that line is meant to lighten dark hair, a blonde shade from the regular colorsilk line won't be as potent. I didn't mix the colors together. I mixed the products in the blonde box in the white bottle and mixed the products in the brown box in its coordinating bottle and went back and forth with pieces to get a more natural and highlighted look. And it really depends what color you're going for. If you're trying to lighten your hair significantly I'd try to find the honey blonde in the luminista line - if you can't then try to find any blonde color you like from that line as it will reduce brassiness, but if you only want to go a few shades lighter I'd get a light neutral or cool brown shade. It will always look darker the first week and will fade. I hope that helps!
@carmencdopetron28817 жыл бұрын
thank you so much for that Samantha! I hope I'd get the same results :)

Well you can see how it came out. It's always a bit darker the first week but will fade quite a be after a few washes. When you're doing it yourself you'll never fully know what color it'll turn out as- so it's always a bit of a risk. The longer you leave it the darker it'll be usually and it depends what color your dying from and if your hair has been died before. It's always shockingly dark when I first dry it after dying it but it should be fine by the third wash or so. Hope that helps. xo

does the color last long?
@samanthann927 жыл бұрын
jørdyn if you're making a drastic change it will last longer. But for me I re color my roots every 6-8 weeks. But for fading throughout it depends on your hair and what products you use to maintain the color and care for your hair. I'll notice it fades faster in summer when I'm outside more and last longer in the winter. But by the time it fades I'm usually ready for a change anyway. And it only fades slightly. It won't be as vibrant in about 8-12 weeks if that's what you mean.

Allison Richards for me I guess it's practice and feeling that there aren't a any dry spots. But you can always ask a friend or family member.

Samantha Ann is it hard to dye your own hair
@samanthann927 жыл бұрын
Allison Richards if it was I wouldn't have been doing it the last 10 years. It takes practice like anything else. But it's definitely easier than paying over $100 to have a stylist do it wrong

how do you do it for short hair
@samanthann928 жыл бұрын
Andrew Mendoza I don't have short hair so I don't have first hand experience there but I'd imagine the same way only there is less hair to use.

what if v use medium golden brown
@samanthann927 жыл бұрын
It'll be darker and more warm toned, may go a little brassy depending what you're dying from and if you're mixing. There are lots of factors.

what proportion sh0d we use for strands?
@samanthann928 жыл бұрын
Erum Sohail I'm not sure what you mean by that? As much as it takes to saturate the piece
@erumsohail21798 жыл бұрын
Samantha Ann ohh thanks.I was just asking that if I dont wanna dye my whole hair and just some strands so in what ratio to take the creme developer and colourant.And if i take it separately in a bowl for highlights can I keep the developer and colourant?
@samanthann928 жыл бұрын
Erum Sohail for highlights I wouldn't use a bowl. I'd use the same format with the bottle. Just squeeze some into your hand and apply until the strand or section you want is saturated. Rub up and down to blend the color wherever you want the light color to start and the root color to end so it's not so harsh and obvious.
@erumsohail21798 жыл бұрын
Samantha Ann ok thanks a million it really helped!! btw the remaining colour that is unused,can I store it?you know for touchup or re-use?if yes,where shall I store it,refrigator?
@samanthann928 жыл бұрын
Erum Sohail Definitely not! It says in the instructions. Throw it away for sure. It's so affordable it's not really a waste of more than a buck or so. You're already saving a ton of money by buying Revlon anyway. I'd just repurchase for touch ups every six to eight weeks or so

I want the color you dyed on :(
@samanthann925 жыл бұрын
That is faded of what I had prior which is the same as what I did here except the brown was one or two shades lighter. It also all depends on what color you are dying over and how your hair takes to the dye.

can u do a video with dying ur hair but streaks ?
@samanthann927 жыл бұрын
Erlea Danika well I don't put streaks in my hair. I'm also growing out my natural hair at the moment, so I'll only be putting in bit of balayage. The idea for streaks would be the same as this video where I switched the colors only a more drastic color difference probably and only one color rather than back and forth.
@oophehe81297 жыл бұрын
Samantha Ann ok thanks cuz i'm gonna or highlights in and idk how so it's like very nerve racking but thank u for telling me😊
@samanthann927 жыл бұрын
Erlea Danika if it's your first time I'd recommend getting it professionally or at least don't bleach it yourself. It's super damaging and risky and can turn orange and brassy so easily. So definitely use the coolest tone. Like ash blonde and less is more!
@oophehe81297 жыл бұрын
Samantha Ann um i think i'm just gonna get brown highlights bc im and i still am very young so i think i will not to bleaching at all.
@samanthann927 жыл бұрын
Erlea Danika good to know! I'm not sure how obvious you want them to be but if you don't get a shade more than two shades lighter you may not see a different. Even when goig brown I'd go for cool or neutral if you go for golden or caramel it may lift very brassy.

I've been dying my hair nearly ten years so I barely know the color haha - it's a very mousy and dull light brown. Just very washed out. I'm pretty there's a photo of my in 8th grade with that color in my reacting to my Facebook photos video and my how to safely lighten your hair at home video if you want to see.

@samanthann924 жыл бұрын
I wasn’t changing the color of my hair but touching up my roots and just reviving faded color for the sake of showing the process for the people who requested. If you did this process with virgin hair or used a more drastic shade there would be more of a difference. I’ve done more updates hair dying videos.

Oh I see now.. yea the process is what I've wanted to learn, thanks for the video!
