Berkeley County School District in South Carolina swore in the newly-elected board members, and two hours later the members abruptly fired the superintendent terminated the district’s lawyer and banned critical race theory. WCBD's Raymond Owens reports.

I’m a music teacher and I found it really strange that I received a training for music teachers in the district but the newly hired history teachers didn’t receive any support when they were hired. More and more schools are simply eschewing the teaching of history altogether. This will have powerful implications in the future. I’m certain of it. Not good.

Technically CRT is not taught in elementary or middle school as it is not in any lesson plans etc. elements of it most certainly are. CRT books are in school libraries. My own daughter was subject to the brown eyed blue eyed experiment when she was in 3rd grade. When questioning the VP about it she actually left Ike’s at me and stated ‘this way the white kids get to know what it feels like’. It’s taught, just not as openly, nor under the same light as the college course would be.

While i understand that feelings and opinions run high and hot over this issue, i think there are important human behaviors explored. Knowledge about how and why a person feels, says does , whatever is vital for growth. Because humans are societal creatures by nature, of course any person’s hows and whys will be influenced by what surrounds them. ( children learn what they live) . Part of what happens in most societies is the need to identify self verses other. I suppose it was evolutionarily important at some point to identify “the other” becuase usually “the other” posed a threat. So “the “other” is , let’s say, in the collective unconscious becomes equivalent to danger and something that needs to be controlled dominated or removed. There are a myriad of ways “the other” could be defined or identified, not just skin color. I dont think it is about skin color i think it us about how and why humans always seem to create and identify “ the other” and how that insticnt affects the human exerpience depending on whether , at any given moment you are the “other“ that has more power or the “other“ that has less power. I wonder if CRT would be less controversial if the word race was not used. IDK. Anyway that is my two cents based on the little I know which includes watching people with much anger and pain maybe getting caught up in perhaps miscommunication and misunderstanding when really everyone wants the same thing: to have your experience validated and be treated with dignity. I guess ironically what i see is an example of people doing exactly what i think CRT was trying to explain: why we humans are powerfully moved to identify , control, erase… those we see as the “other”. We are all the other to someone and that is also another way that we are all the same.

CRT IS NOT TAUGHT ANYWHERE IN AMERICAN PUBLIC SCHOOLS GRADES K - 12. It is taught at the University level, usually in graduate schools. I taught my (white) children at home about how Black People were brought here AND why. I also taught them about how these human beings had to literally fight and die to even have the same equality of primary education as white children, fight to vote, fight to illuminate racial disparity at every level at every point in time here, in America. I also taught them about the Holocaust, Pre-Roe, and all the rest of the dark past these people want to 'spare' children from. I didn't spare my children and guess what? They don't treat others like crap; they have empathy, compassion and they seek to understand other cultures and traditions. Let these children learn about history so us humans can continue to evolve out of barbaric cruelty.

Like how John c Calhoun was a major part in the continuation of slavery, the Secession, and the Moralization of slavery through religion (it's common for southern Baptist preachers to get teenagers asking why their church was founded on slavery). You're being lied to. The children in this area know more about our history than most. And history has nothing to do with George Floyd or Darrel Brooks. One is a man who died at the hands of officers he never should have encountered in a place hundreds of miles away from here due to his own choices and actions. He wasnt a good person, just because he was killed resisting arrest doesn't make him a hero just like putting a gun to a pregnant woman doesn't necessarily make him the devil. And Darrel Brooks?
