It probably would, but child abuse is generally only defined as doing something to the child or putting a child in a situation which puts a child's life in any kind of imminent danger chronically & refusing to acknowledge or remedy the situation. Only thing that goes beyond that, legally, is making a child do something or be help in the carrying out of any act which is illegal. Treating them like shit isn't technically considered a legal problem, & that's where things like this worm their way into a culture.
@pineapplepenumbra
@pineapplepenumbra 2 жыл бұрын
All religious/cult organisations seem to believe that the _child abuse_ of bringing children up in their belief systems is fine. Sadly, so do governments. We don’t (if we’re responsible) let children have access to porn or recreational drugs, so why is it legal to expose them to far more dangerous material, such as the torah, bible and qur’an? The results of such exposure aren’t just potentially damaging to the children, but to the wider society, in a range of ways. No one under the age of 18 should be allowed to read such dangerous nonsense, it literally changes the way that people “think”, and it’s to their detriment. For example, one experiment reported in New Scientist (sadly, I've lost the issue, and would have to sign up to New Scientist in order to, possibly, find the article), detailed in interesting experiment with religious people in fMRI scanners. They were told that the next person they would hear was high up in their belief system. What happened was, the "suspicion circuits"* of the brain literally switched off. It's the same part of the brain that switches off when we're asleep, so that we don't (usually) question the insane situations we find ourselves in, in dreams. My mother was a christian, and had a high IQ (she could easily have joined Mensa, but didn't like the snobby attitude of some of its members), so it bewildered me, as a child, how she could fall for the _blatant_ bullshit of the bible. Obviously this was long before I read the study, and also long before I discovered just how awfully powerful, insidious and dangerous brainwashing is. I've talked to people who have said, "you can't call be stupid, I'm a lawyer/doctor/business person, etc", but I _can- call them stupid, because, when it comes to their belief system, it _doesn't matter_ if they're a skillful surgeon, a successful business person, a sharp lawyer, etc, I might as well be arguing with a retarded child. *There's NO proper critical thinking being applied, even though they are **_convinced_** that there is.* *New Scientist's term, not mine.

For real though!! And just the simple fact that it’s 💯 acceptable to have 3 grown a$$ men question underaged kids about their sexual encounters in unnecessary explicit detail, is a HUGE a red flag by itself. Let alone their not reporting ped0philes to the police and letting them walk among us in the congregation for decades, totally unknowingly. A guy in my own hall was disfellowshipped decades prior for pedophilia. The little girls that were his victims had to stay silent about what happened and so no one knew except the elders and the victims. Not only did they forced these girls to grow up in the same congregation as their attacker, but the congregation appointed him a f*king ELDER!! He was on the committee that disfellowshipped me. I'm sure I've talked about this before on other videos, but my step mom is a JW. Her first husband turned out to be a pedophile and was caught when his victim came forward. My step mom was not allowed to divorce him, even after he went to jail. She had to take her daughter and leave the state to be able to file. She held on to a lot of her beliefs when she met my dad. Once she was away from the organization, though, she started to let them go. Birthdays and holidays were celebrated. They even cohabitated before they got married. But she was racist, bigoted and used her trauma as a weapon against me and my sister while her daughter could do no wrong. I realize now as an adult that she was a victim but that doesn't undo the damage she caused me as a child.

It might be better if you give a reason for a divorce. If a person is a follower of Christ, he should be an advocate for God's laws. The only scriptural basis for a divorce is adultery or if the mate dies the spouse is free to remarry. Not all forms of Child abuse fall under the category of adultery. [Sex outside of marriage] . Shockingly, they couldn’t find any evidence of their own wrongdoing.

And you are not telling the whole truth. Any communication between the branch and local elders is kept confidential. You have no idea what was said or what was done and are making up your story. Aside from that there is a principal among Christians in that no one is accused by the word of one person. There needs to be two credible witnesses. There is also another issue called Satan whose interest is to get all people destroyed by God's hand .

Dear 111Benzie, From watching the Australian Royal Commission on Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse one can readily see that many organizations, denominations and religions have problems. It is also obvious from the responses that most of these organizations, denominations and religions try to correct the policies and procedures which are responsible for these problems. The WTB&TS is one of the few organizations which has refused to address those very policies and procedures that continue to lead to abuses. Finding ways to thwart Watchtower’s very dangerous policies and procedures is a noble and necessary calling.

I have a bro and sister-in-law who are JWs. They would not come to my wedding because it was being officiated by a non-JW. They came to the reception, however. When our father died we had a memorial for him at the mortuary. They said they couldn't attend because the service was conducted by a non-JW, but they sat in the hallway and watched and listened through the open doors! It was crazy! They came to my daughter's wedding and I asked SIL if that was going to be a problem but she said no it wasn't. Now what loophole allowed them to go? I don't think any JW rules changed but I wonder if it was because it was an outdoor wedding and that technically allowed them to say they weren't officially attending the wedding?

The JW organization does not make rules. There is nothing wrong with going to a wedding even if it were in a church and the same would hold true for a memorial as long as the JW attending does not participate in the ritual or religious ceremony. When my mother died I attended a Catholic church memorial as a JW. Some JWs have a strong conscience while others might have a weak conscience. Either way that does not make them a bad person because he or she chose to attend a memorial in a church of Christendom. As JWs we have to think about the other person who does not understand what the bible teaches without crossing the line and participate in a form of false worship. We are all a work in progress and have much to learn. We should not confuse God's law with conscience but we do and it will continue until we are perfect humans.

Frankly as someone who used to be a JW, most of them are anything but lonely. They loooove each other. One of the elders in my congregation did and still does have everyone over his house on sundays for pizza and volleyball. And frankly, one of the things that keeps people around is their ability to cherry pick what the governing body says. Worldly people are extremely dangerous? Oh well, some people will just have friends anyways. What's a whole lot shittier is getting shunned by basically everyone you've ever known, if you grew up in it. I could hear my family listening to this broadcast from my room the other day and thought maybe it would make them want to kick me, still nothing. No you don't, therefore, you should STFU about my gender, it is not your gender, why do you care? \\That makes you mentally ill.\\ What makes transgender people like myself mentally ill is being disenfranchised, cast away, tormented and bullied by extremists such as yourself. The source of our pain is YOU, and the hate you spew without understanding a damn thing about what gender is and how much we've learned about the topic in the last twenty years. \\You are NOT a woman.\\ Really? PROVE IT! \\Confused?\\ Not at all. Finding myself is one of the greatest things that happened to me and transitioning is the best decision I've ever made in my whole life, it brought me peace, it practically ended my chronic depression and it helps ease anxiety like nothing else!! The results speak for themselves, transition is for me, if it's not for you it's because you're not transgender, that fact doesn't give you the right to berate other people and bully them into submission to your asinine, ignorant ideas about gender. \\Go in the bathroom and shut the door. There's more to men, women and every gender in between than meets the eye. \\(Spoiler: getting those parts cut off just makes you a surgically mutilated male).\\ Spoiler! That promo video was HILARIOUS. Holy heck. The narrative only makes sense to someone within the church, and it's hard to tell whether this piece of media was made to encourage existing believers - or out of a completely misguided understanding of the secular position. The presentation is so far removed from reality that no reasonable-minded person would consider it convincing unless they were already brainwashed. I always wonder when I see media like this (common from hate preachers, young-earth creationists, flat-earthers, etc - seeming to make propaganda, but only that which works on the already-convinced) whether they realise how much the act of its creation alienates them from people with mainstream beliefs, rather than draws people in.

Regarding XJW Recovery: I am 4th generation born-in JW, disfellowshipped, shunned and left at 25. I thought time would reduce my anxiety & depression, difficulty connecting with others, not feeling safe in the world and a multi-faceted host of other issues. Beginning in 2014 I tried conventional therapy for 2 years and the progress I noticed was not worth the frustration and time. When I turned 52 I realized I might never get around the unconscious indoctrination and the anger I was feeling. Then in 2022 I found Lisa Magdalena a Born-in XJW therapist working via zoom. When she left she studied psychology and created a deprograming system based on the archetype work of Carl Jung, with the goal of helping others remove the unconscious programming and cult world view. I am on module 2 of 9 and I am able to recognize the unconscious indoctrination (little voice) at work in my interactions and decision making process. Recognizing and calling it out has reduced my level of everyday anxiety. The actual indoctrination is dissolving in the archetypes we have completed. For those going through something similar, it gets better and there is a way out if you find you need it. exjwcounseling.com/success-stories

Well, the "worldly" internet, anyways. Since you left, a few things happened. One of the big ones was this baffling article about the governing body and whether they're the ones making the decisions. It was "confusing" even to people who really drink the kool-aide, people either had to mentally flashbang themselves to ignore it or actually started grumbling about how the article was full of doublespeak and yeah, obviously the GB runs things. Through God's holy spirit. But they have free will. But it's God's desisions. ...yeah. That combined with a common criticism that the GB and the organization in general was sort of secretive. Que more articles about the GB in general and the sense that suddenly there was a spotlight on them (no more humble, unseen worker bees). Then they started showing up for talks and we got brilliant gems like "skinny jeans were made by homosexuals so they could see more bulges" and the same dude, who's a vietnam vet, pretty much having an episode and ranting about how horrible Armageddon wiil be, rotting piled up bodies n' all. Since then that dude has been suspiciously quiet vs. the others and there was a general shift to a lot of simplified "the GB is great actually and they definitely know what's best" content like this. Giving people the blatantly evangelical content they really wanted rather than making fun of evangelicals for doing it. A good chunk of my extended family has been fading out. Beliefs becoming more personal, some growing *beards* heaven forbid, more willing to criticize the org's stances (quietly) and hardly going to meetings at all.

Regular pioneers sign up for a year at a time and have to average 70 hours a month. Special pioneers are appointed by the branch office and their hour requirements are set by the branch. The other thing they have changed is on some special months, like when the circuit overseer is visiting or if there's a special witnessing campaign or if it's the month of the circuit assembly, then people can sign up to auxiliary pioneer for only 30 hours that month.

It's completely insane that CSA, a crime which most often does not have multiple witnesses, is only reported to the police from these guys if there are two witnesses. Though it's even more disturbing when you realize it's not just the Jehovah's Witnesses. I grew up Mormon, and have seen the reports of what's been going on that have come out this year, and while it's disturbing it's also completely in line with what they teach you growing up. For those that don't know, the Church lawyers that are supposed to help local leaders handle things like CSA and work directly for the central leadership in Salt Lake City were telling these leaders to not report these cases to law enforcement. Instead, they were supposed to counsel the offender. While there are different technicalities involved here, this is basically the same thing the Jehovah's Witnesses were doing, since this counseling is what is supposed to happen for "serious sins" like masturbation, adultery, etc. They had a video they showed to us when I was ~14 years old that spelled this all out in detail, and reading the reports it looks like this is exactly how they treated crimes like CSA. And this practice was being upheld by the central leadership; this wasn't just a random extreme case, this was de-facto official church policy. I feel disgusting that I was indoctrinated into believing this stuff from birth, and that the vast majority of my family members continue to associate with an organization that would do something like this. At the very least, while leaving the church will probably strain family relations, it's something I can feel safe doing because I can be confident that my immediate family won't shun me over it. The same cannot be said for JWs, my heart goes out to any of you that have had to experience what happens when you leave that religion.

Anyways, when I got older, and heard about all this flat earth stuff, I started researching how/why people believe that, then I found those more broad arguments/logical constructions are just as well used against theism in general. Over time, my dad eventually asked why I don't go to church anymore, and I told him about atheism and agnosticism. He pushed me a bit into trying to get me to be religious again, and wanting to try to convince me. I had to tell him I don't really want to hear more arguments for theism, especially from him, and I don't want to push atheism onto him either, but if he has questions about why I think what I do, I can answer. We did talk a little. By the end of that conversation, he learned that agnosticism and atheism are not the same thing, and that HE is actually agnostic (albeit theist), lol!

It's not directly related to the video, but I've seen others share their own stories so I'll share my own. Growing up, there were two Witnesses that would go door to door every week. My mother would usually let them give their speech and talk with them for a few minutes before taking a Watchtower booklet and letting them leave. At the time I didn't really understand what they were doing or what the booklet was for. In my early teens, my mother had to go out somewhere and left me home alone and the Witnesses showed up. I told them that my Mam was out, but should be back soon if they want to come back to talk with her. They then started questioning me about my belief and if I'd be open to giving myself to Jehovah, and at the time I didn't know there was a word for it, but I basically explained that I'm agnostic. As well as that, if of the dozens of religions out there, if one is correct surely it should be the first one. They didn't seem pleased at all, but gave me the booklet, told me to look through it and then when she got home, make sure my mother gets it. At the time, I figured that was a bit weird, but it was over with and that was that. But no~ They came back half an hour later, checking to see if she had gotten home yet. They did this constantly, from around midday through to late afternoon, just coming back over and over again. When my mother did return, I told her about how creepy they were being, made sure she knew where the booklet was for when they came back, and sure enough when they did, they gave her a very fake sounding 'polite' scolding for not sharing with me their beliefs and allowing me to develop dangerous beliefs of my own. If I weren't already not interested in religions, that experience put me off entirely! As an addition tale, on my way home from work, I usually had to pass people hanging out fliers and trying to sell you something, and I got into the routine of telling them I'm in a hurry, but I'll take a flier as I found that feigned bit of apparent interest was enough to get me by without being rude, especially as they'd often be there for a week. One time, there's a guy from one of the branches of Christianity, at this point I really can't remember which. He wouldn't take no for an answer and *had* to give me the sales pitch. However, what I got was so far from what I expected, I had to fight back grinning from how incredulous it sounded. I was expecting the stuff I'd grown up hearing, save your soul, better your self, get to feel safe and love for the rest of your life, stuff like that. This guy, no, he was trying to sell plots of land in heaven, essentially. Now he wasn't asking for money, no. What he was selling, was some sort of spiritual pyramid scheme. What he described was, for every person you get to open their heart to Jesus, you get a bigger plot of land in heaven, and a better house to live in. He claimed, that he had brought in so many people to his congregation, that he had a manor and was now working up to a mansion. If I joined immediately, I'd have access to heaven, but would only have a tiny patch of land and nothing to sleep in, but if I could convert my family and friends, I would go through having a tent and could maybe get a small house. But to go from there I would need to be on constant vigil for people to convert. Frankly I've never heard such a bold, in your face appeal to someone's sense of materialistic desire to join a religion.

I recommend reading Flannery O'Connor's book Wise Blood. Like a lot of her characters, the MC has strong Catholic inclinations but is also trying to break out of the religion. He goes to town to try to shock people with his disbelief in God, but finds out how naive that is pretty fast. Like the song goes, "Nothing's shocking."

@@JordanS215 Nope, no can do! Not after the way my aunt and uncle tore this family up with their Jehovah's Idiots BULLSHIT CULT. Until you've been MISTREATED the way my grandparents were, good people who never hurt ANYONE, and who went to their GRAVES still never understanding any of this, not knowing what they had done so wrong, what they had said and when did they say it; until you've watched your entire family be ignored, mistreated and torn up by these... "people"....THEN you can tell me to smile and be kind to these LYING HYPOCRITES. Do you think I care WHAT they think or that I've cemented their insane belief system?! Their small, brainwashed minds are ALREADY made up ANYWAY, don't be naive. Well, I DON'T CARE what they think or do, I DON'T HAVE TO LISTEN TO THEIR LIES AND DRIVEL. I'll continue to slam the door on them; at that point, by ignoring my sign, they are TRESPASSING. By the way....I DID try that congenial approach, I WAS polite and smiling one time; you know what they did? They took that as an invitation, one that I never extended. They started coming around when I was still in high school and was working my part-time grocery store job at night, and would badger my parents about how upset would they be *WHEN* I converted to JW.....WTF?!! Yep, I am also an "apostate." Have been considered so since the age of 14 when all my belongings were packed into trash bags and thrown onto the front lawn for refusing to meet with elders and adhere to the strict schedule of KH meetings, book studies and ministry service for a cult that I had been forced to be raised in since the age of 4. That blood policy caused irreparable damage to my mother's brain when she hemorraged during a routine day surgery in 2020 and refused a transfusion, of course. She was in a coma for a week and we were told she would likely die. The elders and even the circuit overseer came and hovered over her bedside to make sure we didn't get a court order to save her life, it was disgusting. They even tried to recruit my adult daughter in the waiting room while she was vulnerable and grieving, I had to step in and tell them to back off. My Mom woke up from the coma but never recovered mentally, she had severe brain damage from lack of oxygen to her brain without a life saving transfusion that would have been the routine protocol. She died last May very afraid of what death meant (a big nothingness) It makes me very angry. That blood policy kills more people annually including children than the Jonestown Massacre that happened once. And it's allowed under religion. In my opinion, they are a criminal organization no different that any other Mafia who's leaders are ego maniac Narcissists controlling their group with fear and coercion. They accuse the "apostates" of exactly what they are doing. Love bombing, future faking, projection, deflection, devalue (shunning) hoover. Narcissistic Abuse Cycle and Cults have so much in common. This is 100% a cult. My sisters friend was molested in pur Kingdom Hall by an elder. They didn't want my sister to tell what she knew so they stalked her, even broke into her apartment. She was so traumatized she became agoraphobic. I know other JW kids who have either become full blown addicts or committed suicide. It is a very hard childhood. I still struggle with forgiving my mother and she is dead. I don't know if I can ever forgive the elders and congregation members I know were in it for positions of authority and for power over others who covered up actual CSA and other crimes. The couple who recruited my mother when I was 4 became my sister and my babysitter and they used to abuse us, lock us in closets and take away our favorite things and tell our mother they were lost. I told my kindergarten teacher I was being locked in a closet and my mother was called in to the school. She convinced the teacher I was making up stories then punished me for lying. My Mom was also a teacher so they believed her and my Mom believed the couple would never do something horrible like that so we must be lying. We were not lying. Sister and Brother Diane and Bob Carter (Dan Dan Anna Bob) from the Middleboro, Massachusetts Congregation. I remember you and what you did to me and my sister. Child abusers.

When u mentioned "springs from", you said the NWT is altered and they change meanings of words to fit their faulty doctrine. It reminded me of their definition of the word "meek". Which means passive, quiet NOT as they say, "teachable". So they tweek it & tell potential concerts, "See, you're letting US teach you so Jehovah likes that. He approves of what you're doing". That was one of the things that never set well with me cause I'm a writer (a published writer, dude) so I KNOW what words mean. And it's a tactic, that's all This is clearly your best video yet! Very, I've seen them, Several times be outright nasty to non JWs . I was just an eyewitness because I happened to tactfully mention a family member was a JW otherwise they would have started being nasty to me . Luckily I was getting ready to leave so she lost that opportunity. But others who came their from my job told me how ugly she behaved to them. My job dropped them as clients because of it. There were other incidents with JWs toxic behavior that I either saw or experienced directly. And none of these JW people knew each other. I assumed it was that false sense of superiority the religion tells you to put on. I’d ended a bible study several years previously because I’d seen too many red flags.

If I'm not mistaken divorce is frowned upon in the Jehovah's Witness community, so would they disfellowship both of them or just the one?

JWs frown on separation and divorce. You can’t remarry unless your ex admits to committing adultery or dies. But, there is a scripture about letting a mate depart if they aren’t agreeable to living with you. Apostasy can be seen in that light. A witness will get a lot more sympathy from the elders for separating over apostasy than they would over physical abuse, believe it or not.

Honestly, I'm PROUD to be an APOSTATE now! I left "The Truth" 9 years ago and finally cut off my relationship with my mom in 2020 because she wouldn't stop hounding me or trying to guilt trip me into going back. I came out last year finally calling Jehovah's Witnesses a cult for what they are and got blocked by my Grandmother (who is still a JW) on Facebook! At least now I don't have to walk on egg shells on my timeline to not upset her anymore. It's like how many failed Armageddon predictions will it take and lies will it take for people to wake up and see that what JW's are teachings are BS? I'm glad I saw through it and I'm glad my husband saw through it. I'm out and I'm staying out! Not going back anytime soon!

Cults are weird, bizarre and usually ridiculous when watched from the outside. That's why they avoid exposure. The scary thing is, when you are on the inside, everything seems normal. Conditioning is a powerful tool, and everyone is vulnerable to it to some degree.
