I worked there 51 years ago in "73, it was a hill back then, the town had only just become an "open" town site and cops were installed, before that it was just a company town, the averts for workers called us "The Iron Men of the North" I walked into the Mt Newman offices in St Georges Tce Perth on a Monday morning as a green behind the ears 18yo and four days later I was sitting behind the wheel of Haulpac truck that looked as big as a block of flats and could carry a payload of 200 tons,, and there was a three hundred ton Wabco Haulpac being put together as I arrived, I had a great time up there. yes it was hot and I have never been so dirty in my life, but the food was good my room was cleaned every two days, the red dust got everywhere and the money was HUGE
