Hey eric very nice flight and video whew that was close to that power line have you seen the phantom 4 and what do you think I like the obstacle avoidance ,shame they didn't make retractable landing gear LIKED ( thumbs up )

Thanks -- I nearly sh!t when I saw the video with the power line. Obviously I knew at the time it didn't crash but I was watching expecting something bad to happen. Even when flying forward power lines are hard to see on my display. Is it that way for you?

+Eric Newman They are definitely hard to see I'm lucky that half of our power lines are underground ( still a lot around ) Great flying

Yes, both my neighborhoods have underground utilities but lots elsewhere and they're hard / impossible to see.

Thanks. I did walk around briefly to stretch my legs but didn't go in a single store. Mainly chick-stuff.

Nice shopping center. You can run inside for a Starbucks coffee while u park your drone up in the air. Nice 4K vid. I'm not too heart with the new body shape of the new P4. U?

Well, flat commercial roofs are pretty boring, and the wind turbines showed up as no-fly zones -- But what are the alternatives? Shop there? The P4's body does kinda look like a pregnant guppy, but it does protect the gimbal so I guess that's OK.

nice vid as usual Eric. New P4 is here. what do you think? lots on the inside not much on the outside. I think.

The 5 km controller range is nice. Did you see DJI's video? There's no way I'd trust its new fancy Follow Me through trees. It's less expensive than I thought it would be. It's interesting, and I think worth the extra money. I need a second quality quadcopter so I don't have to keep taking this Phantom 3 Pro back and forth between California and Maui.

+Eric Newman Yeah, I actually re-uploaded it. I love those features. but I think I will hold on until most updates are released. this new P4 will rely a lot on softwares, so glitches are expected.

I'd expect it to be very buggy. I bought my P3P when they just came out, and the firmware and app sucked.

There are so many man-made obstacles around populated areas. I doubt even the Phantom 4's obstacle avoidance system would have saved you there .... I would have bought a lottery ticket on the way home :-)

I just read that the Phantom 4 only had collision avoidance facing forward and down -- Those are the only places where I don't need it. I doubt it would pick up wires facing forward and I was flying sideways at the time.
@TravelswithYoly8 жыл бұрын
+Eric Newman Yes, I'm pretty sure based on the demo by a DJI guy that I saw, it probably wouldn't have detected the wires even if it was flying forward. I get to see 80% of what I captured only after downloading the footage for viewing. I'm amazed at how hard it is to see detail on the very small (relatively) cell phone display that I use, especially in bright light (even with a shade). I have a 10 in. Android tablet that works but it doesn't play nice all the time with the app.

I guess the collision avoidance is just icing on the cake, but I've never needed to be prevented from flying my Phantom (forward) into a brick wall yet. As long as it doesn't do stupid things when there's nothing there. The downward sonar and optical sensors on my P3P make simple easy landings kinda jumpy sometimes. I use a Nexus 9 tablet with the brightness at maximum and a sunshade. I don't use the sunshade in my many sunrise / sunset videos and can see more from less ambient light. I have my video resolution / bandwidth set somewhere in the middle, assuming that it works better for longer flights, but if DJI is smart (big unlikely if) they'd reduce video resolution as the bandwidth decreases, like KZbin does. Now I'm curious...

GOOD GOOD ,I LOVE YOUR VIDEO ,KEEP GOING ,POWER LINE IS TO CLOSE:)) GOOD ADVICE ,

Thanks. I freaked when I saw that power line, even though the Phantom was safely back in its case at the time.
