Our heavy equipment mechanic (Nate) gives tips and tricks as he's pressing out excavator track pins with a 100 ton track press! Track replacement on excavators can be a difficult task. The removal of a track link is almost impossible if you don't have the proper tools for the job. In this video, Nate shows us how to use a 100 ton press to make track replacement a breeze on this episode of DECONSTRUCTION at Newman Tractor!

I did field track and u/c repair for 40 years with caterpillar dealers. I remember when I first started in the business it was all 20 lb sledge and plan maul to separate tracks. I was ecstatic when we got a portable track press.

i've watched a few of your videos and i appreciate you guys making them. the quality of them is superior. which makes me curious, did you guys hire someone to make these videos or did a current employee do this in addition to what they were hired to do?

@@NewmanTractor Well-thanks! Just turned 57 last Monday. I have some automotive tools but also an Earthquake 3/4" cordless impact. I do even think about working on cars: been there done than 20-years ago. If I move to switch to being a mechanic, it will be with heavy equipment and heavy-duty trucks.

Took a set of tracks off one machine and installed it on another as the grouser plates are different . But to seperate the tracks they have a master pin and they need to be pressed out or hit out with a sledge hammer and dolly. He was showing how much easier it is with the press opposed to the hard work of using a sledge hammer etc . But be warned they can be very dangerous (never stand in the line of fire)

Looks like fun but then the weather gets shitty and then it's no longer fun. In fact, it becomes way too dangerous at that point.
