In this video, Cam the Heavy Duty Mechanic, inspects and reseals a track tensioner off a CAT 330C Excavator. Unfortunately, one track tensioner needed re-chroming and so a re-manned (re-manufactured) unit was purchased to get the 330C up and running again as quick as possible.
We also go over tailoring your repairs to the situation. There's a lot of things you need to consider and every job is different.

Hey thanks for the feature. The truck is mine. Been working out of it for a few years. I do repairs on my dad's construction business equipment and trucks mostly but take on customers as well. It's been the best purchase I've made when it comes to field work. Couldn't make it without it. Love the videos. I know they take alot to film and edit. Always hoping to see a new one posted.

I work in a hydraulic shop and we’ve had to use compressed air to blow pistons out of the barrel when the rod breaks off. We put a garbage can in front of the barrel to “catch” the piston. We’ve blown the living shit out of many cans 😂

Hey cam good video, I'm coming across track tensioner's chrome pitting out externally and internally on the SANY equipment from the 130 to the 450, don't know if you guys have them in Canada but we have shit loads in Scotland, but when you reseal them there's roughly a 2mm Gap in the tensioner body but most of the equipment has only done 1500 to 2000 Hours, the manufacturer is pondering over what to do next🤣🤣🤣 done one on Saturday then seen your video and I thought I would let you guys know, by the way you are so lucky to have a crane on your truck. Stay safe.👍👍👍

I always enjoy doing track tensioner jobs. Good physical job to pass the day. They are sometimes a bit of a mongrel on CAT 325DFM etc, you would have to spend half the day chipping out mud that had turned to concrete just to reach the 2 bolts. Without a decent impact gun those bolts can be near impossible to get out cos of the stupid frame in the way.

Just did this the other day on a 977L cat track loader. It Blew out the tensioner and snapped the tensioner push rod. After a fair amount of swearing and elbow grease she lived to fight another day. Lesson learned from that job was never stick your finger where you wouldn’t stick your……… member……

I’ve been turning wrenches for over 10 years on everything from airport equipment to D11 dozers. Low to Mid 20s is where you will start. A degree will help but the thing that really gets the big pay checks is experience. I don’t have a degree at all, but after I built knowledge and experience I’m making over 100k a year with a company service truck that I drive home every night and average amount of over time. Get in start learning and the money will come.

Washington state, US here. Not a lot of apprentice/union programs. I have a diesel degree. I started at $24/hr at a dealer. I did a year and a half in the shop, then moved into a truck. I think the degree really helps in the long run, not really as you start out.

Why is Cam using that cheap sh*t brake clean I hate that brand, the contractor I work for had a case of that crap the stuff doesn't clean sh*t I haven't flung a can(s) across the shop its been close.
