Newport, RI West Track Restoration Update - Removal - 2/19/2022

The West Track in Newport, RI has been removed so a new roadbed can be constructed alongside the Rail With Trail embankment. This video shows the removed track section that will be rebuilt likely sometime next year.

South Coast rail, great video. I hope Newport Colony railroad add two tracks. Even enough room for a third track. That's what makes a great railroad.

-Yes.Restoration is much better.For one thing It opens up a few jobs for the locals & will make that area look a lot better.To me Newport will always be a great city.I was not born there but was raised there sense i was 6 yrs old till i joined the navy at 17.My dad was stationed there.Even after i was discharged from the navy i still made many trips many times to Newport.Buttler st was my best friends home and he latter moved & bought property at the end part of Green End Ave in Middletown.I consider myself lucky to have lived there for the better years of my life.In fact my first job was at Center Lanes bowling alley as a pin boy.O the great times ! !

It would be great if the Bridge were restored and Fall River MBTA service were to be extended to Newport sometime in the future.

A lot of those ties look better than what a lot of Clas III's are running on now, lol. I bet Pioneer would love to have track in that good of condition on their Napoleon, Defiance & Western. :)

A lot of track out there that never should of been shut down. Reason being for some of it new owner didn't see it as profitable so shut it down sometime after they took ownership.

This is the rail removed from the west track. The east track rail is still sitting on the ground along the remains of the west track.

It's really great that a lot of this abandoned railway line is getting rebuilt I wonder what the intention of restoring all this old abandoned line? Is it for Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority or for the freight railroad that runs on that line?

While the line has been mostly in service for years a lot of these restorations/ reactivations of sidings have to do with the tourist trains on the line. There may one day be a short shuttle train into Newport but chances the MBTA operates down here are slim.

The west track was last used in 2016. Up until last year we used the “East Track” but since that was removed we have to use the West Track once again.

Tourist operations although down the road there may be a short park and ride shuttle train.

There will be a double track into the station but single track north of Walnut St.

Glad to see an update on this... Probably the time of year, but it looks like there's a bit of a drainage issue there. This stretch of track connects to the small station at the outskirts of downtown Newport? So they don't plan on using that station for the next year or so? It's good that they're working on things like they are... It's a good sign that the operation is "healthy".

The station can’t be reached due to the construction. Drainage has been never been good in this area but we hope the proper ditches and drainage systems will be installed during the rail with trail build.

A bike path is being built alongside the line and that’s actually the reason this track is being rebuilt.

Not that this isn't cool, how were the rail Advocate lucky enough in a state that's liberal and seems to love ripping out track for trail. Also, are they going to put the siding back?

The video is actually showing the siding that was ripped up for replacement. A single track will parallel the trail into Newport.
