God bless the O’Connor family from Sacramento California, dragged me to a new riders/Grateful Dead concert back in 1976. My brother-in-law, who was supposed to be born in 1840, and just happened to be born in 1950… Taught me all those old fiddle tunes like Arkansas traveler, soldier, joy… And I am still a Bluegrass, Country, Northern California hippie music fanatic!

The culottes tell of the time, for sure. Love Riders. Takes me back to the old Mexican shake; stems and seeds. I probably wouldn't be here if the reefer was as powerful then as it is today. I remember making brownies for an Alice Cooper concert in the Denver coliseum in 1971 while this was playing on the ole FM.

Over 50 years! Thats way to long my friend! Music is life and songs like that remind you to not take too seriously. Im thinking what else havent you heard in a while. Do your self a favor and look some of those up. It’ll only make you smile ☮️

I love Jerry Jeff's version of this Ray Wiley Hubbard cosmic cowboy classic. However, the NRPS version is my favorite, for the simple reason of "E is for Einsteins Theory of Relativity". I have heard people say "E is for Enema, E is for Egalitarian, E is for Eggs etc,,," but this one takes the cake. Cosmic Cowboys indeed!

WOW, I'm getting an education just listening to this song. I didn't know it was written by Ray Wylie Hubbard. And covered by NRPS & Jerry Jeff Walker. It was also covered by a great Colorado band by the name of String Cheese Incident, which is where I heard it first. Thanx for posting this.

SCI imo is the only band to "get it" after the Jerry died. I've only seen them a handful of times in the past 20 years, but holy hell do they deliver.
@shmoopdogg79846 ай бұрын
BTW, Jeff Walker my have the most popular version of all covers, but this is possibly one of the most covered songs of all time, particularly live. It goes way back. Im sorry, i dont mean to make fun but i hope you didn’t think it was a string cheese song cause if you did , well thats pretty funny! Peace brotha!
@writer1256 ай бұрын
@@shmoopdogg7984 Actually upon hearing it done ✅ by SCI for the first time, I thought 💭 it was. They could have written it if it wasn’t done by anybody else. They are a great 👍 band. But as it turns out to be a great 👍 cover too. Thanx for your post.

@@oreokookie1000 ...thats what i always liked about NRPS, you could tell they were enjoying themselves!!! Whether it was in front of 150,000 people at Englishtown Raceway in New Jersey or 500 people at the Stanhope House. You could tell they loved playing. AND THOSE NUDIE SUITS!!! Love love love THEM! Buddy looks the best and I always had the major hots for him.. Plus he's the premiere pedal steel player in the world. Sorry so long, just love NRPS so much. Glad I could help u with the "goat ropers need love, too" line. Been a fan since I was 13, 'bout 44 years now. Happy NRP-in, dude!

Remember the NRPS were founded by Jerry Garcia David Nelson (singing here) and John Dawson Yep, David Nelson is still alive and cranking out great jams with the David Nelson Band. DNB is a cross of NRPS Meets Grateful Dead with mostly original songs written by David or Robert Hunter and a handful of covers for the fun of it.
