I think it’s less that the Lizard League somehow got stronger, and more that the Guardians left their 3 weakest members behind to fight them alone. Rex may have the firepower, but he’s just as weak and vulnerable as a normal human, making him basically a glass cannon. Shrinking Ray and Dupli-Kate are pretty much the opposite; they’re good at evasion and survival, but they don’t really pack any sort of punch. Meaning that it’s just a matter of wearing them out and pinning them down. Every other member of the Guardians has some measure of both offensive and defensive capabilities, which is why any of them (aside from maybe Shapesmith) could potentially solo the Lizards.

I'm pretty sure one of the reasons the "Guardians" failed here is, because much like in Season 1, they fought like "individual assholes" instead of coordinating. Rex was fighting Iguana, Shrinking Rae was fighting Salamander and Kate was fighting Komodo as alone as Kate can be.

I think Cecil lied about putting Donald's brain in the robot. When he blows up that house in season 1, it shows ash fall out of Omni-man's hands. There was absolutely nothing left of Donald. Omni-man's body did not shield him from everything. It seems like Donald much be a clone of some sort.
