Guy hit it on the head when he said when Virginia was down 8-10, they panicked and started shooting 3s and forcing shots. You attack the basket. You have to do the basics to get back into the game.

It really is a shame that when a #1 seed finally did lose that it would be a classy team with an incredibly classy coach that many of us would have rooted for to win it all once our respective favorites started falling by the wayside. I'm from Big 10 country, but I have always liked Virginia and with the Wisconsin connection to Tony Bennett ... yes, I do root for him. Having said that, what a historic win for UMBC! But be proud of your team and coach UVA fans ... no, you didn't get the outcome you wanted this year (national title) but consider yourself fortunate to have good kids and a terrific coach!

I love how Bennett accepted this. He understands how life works, there are winners and losers. You do not always win and that's ok, you grow from it. This isnt like everyone "wins" in a game. Sometimes you are going to lose and how you react and accept it makes you. Parents be so lucky to have their sons under his leadership.

+Matthew Maccaro True not sure what that as to do with my statement though. My point, his team lost, so he also lost. He knew how to handle it, he lost with grace. His players not so much. He handled it like any parent could wish their children to learn from. He's teaching them that they shan't always be given a reward for simply playing a game, which I find happens a lot nowadays. What he did in that interview is how you should react, he didn't whine, he didn't blame, he didn't get mad. He accepted what happened and he's moving on. Let's hope the younger generations view this and see that you cannot always have what you wish. Sometimes, you lose, that's a part of life, we need to teach younger generations this fact (and very quickly I may add or they going to suffer later in life.)

Bennett is a good coach. But he needs to change up his system a little bit. They aren’t built to come back from 10 down they can’t make a run. Works in regular season but eventually in the NCAA ur gonna matchup with a team that hits a lot of open shots. U have to match em or get points some way.

Sergio Morales Kentucky has the easiest road to the final four. They get to avoid, Arizona ,Tennessee , and Virginia. As a Kentucky fan I am so happy as we watch our section of the bracket crumble. And cincy may loose today as well, this could be crazy if all the top 4 seeds loose in this brackets. Let’s go cats!
@pizzapocket78786 жыл бұрын
Undeserved Turmoil but yet they kept it together when most teams would have crumbled. A Pac12 conference championship and tournament championship are good enough for me. In the end one team will win it all.
@SemmiOh6 жыл бұрын
Virginia's problem offensively is they don't have anyone who steps up and wows you like a lot of other team's players can. This tournament is about guard play and good defense. Always has been and always will be. Virginia doesn't have a true point guard. North Carolina didn't have a true point guard this season. Nor did they deserve a 2 seed and it showed.

5 yrs. out and after a redeeming national championship, it's still painful for a Wahoo. I think this game convinced Coach Bennett he had to have a defensive pest. As good as the 2018 team was, they did not have that. They'd had it before with Jontel, and to some extent with London, but they certainly had it with Kihei, and now have it exponentially with Reece and Dante. Shout out to Coach Odom, a Wahoo, in spite of going to Hampden-Sydney.

If they can beat Virginia, they can beat Kansas State. Just need to keep a level head and keep their confidence. If that next game is close, you already know UMBC gonna do it again.
@blakeb45836 жыл бұрын
Cole Lutz being a kstater, I’m a bit biased, but had Virginia made half of the shots they missed, they would have shut out UMBC. Not that i don’t want to see a Cinderella story, but UMBC had really good luck with their shots, but their ball handling is not the best by any means if you watched the game. And if you know anything about KState’s defense, you’ll know that kstate would never allow UMBC to score as much as they did
@carrssportscorner996 жыл бұрын
Blake B you can say that about every single basketball game, thats not really a good reason
@dathunderman46 жыл бұрын
Blake B well of course you can say that about any team that loses. Obviously if a team makes half the shots they missed they would've won the game they lost lol, it's up to the team to make shots. I agree tho that it's unlikely this team will continue to upset the teams on their road, though I would love to see it.

@jshelhorse Жыл бұрын
This happened long ago, at this point, but you should know that statistically, factually, scientifically, a 1 seed should've lost to a 16 seed 6 times prior, in the NCAA tournament, since all teams were seeded in 1979. That it didn't happen until 2018 is the true statistical anomaly. That it happened again only 4 yrs., later, after 44 yrs., shows this occurrence, this anomaly, is a media-generated non-story.
