K-9 Huk returns to hospital to thank workers

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office honored two organizations Friday - thanking them for helping K-9 Huk, the police K-9 that was shot in the line of duty back in July.

This is a wonderful story with a wonderful outcome. Unfortunately, our town lost 2 K9 Officers in the line of duty within the past year. Unfortunately, my state doesn't have any laws making killing a K9 Officer a felony. Legislatures are trying to get the law changed.

Normally after such injuries on the job, k9 units are retired and adopted by their handlers to live out the rest of their natural lives as pets. I don't know if it's possible, but Huk could be trained to be a therapy/emotional support dog since that's a calmer and safer position.
