Amen. This country needs to seriously reform its education system. Knowledge is indeed true power. Very well said, and a very timely bit of wisdom as well. If more Americans had access to more knowledge, we become enlightened and more self-aware.. and then we can all stand together, as enlightened beings..together. Thanks for the nice comment. Hope u have a great,great day.

I'm a size 58 w short hair And a size 59 w long hair, I buy most hats a size or so too large,and pad it down w sweat pads,I like the deeper, oversized look..I usually buy 60 or 61, even 62 a few times. I'm mostly wearing 60-61. U shouldn't stretch hats, but go large and shim them down, if u have a tight hat,u can stretch it from 57 to maybe a 59 if I do it, if anyone else does it,expect a half size, like 57.5. Nobody stretches like I do, it's pretty unusual.. I can get it as large as u want,60,61,62.. but the larger u go,the more stretch marks,lines and side effects u will get.. malformed brims, torn sweatbands.. I'd say I can do two sizes, and anything more will look worn,used,or just show the stretch..the idea is to do it cleanly, invisibly.. anything beyond 2 sizes will look a little messed up

Not really, 8 panals can range from tiny to huge in floppiness our Orchard Newsboy model is a tight little modern 8 panel,and we go smaller than that. If u can't get w that little bit of floppiness,it's definitely ivy cap, even most ivy caps are too wide for a lot of folks, they only go for the super skinny Ivy's..

This type of hat got it's unique beginning in England during the 16th Century. In order to stimulate wool consumption and general trade, the British Parliament passed an act in 1571 that required all males over the age of six that were not of nobility to wear a wool flat cap on Sundays and holidays. Although the act was later repealed in 1597, by then the ivy cap was fully entrenched in English culture. By the 19th Century, almost all working class men wore ivy caps throughout Britain and Ireland. The upper-class also wore caps made from finer materials on the countryside. The patchwork versions started out of necessity -- using small pieces of scrap material to produce a functional cap. They gained lasting popularity as a showcase for the sewing talent required to produce one.

Thanks for the video! I bought my first ivy cap (Irish tweed) many years ago, and I still use it. Since then, I have acquired a small collection of newsboy and driving caps. One thing I learned; in the end it is better to go to a real shop, and spend more on a well fitting high quality cap, than buying online and hope that it fits. Fortunately there's a well sorted shop in the city where I live (Amsterdam, Netherlands).

Do you ship to Canada???? Whoops, looked at the details, and see that you do ship internationally. Big joy at my end. I have had several Ivys. Being large and having a lot of hair I have decided that the Newsboy will suit me better. Being in Canada it is important to have in in the right material. The Harris tweed or the thicker Irish tweed seems to be the way to go. The material makes a big difference in how the cap sits on yor head and how it lays, if you are going for a wider cap. Looking at a number of things on the market, I have noticed a lot of American retailers are selling caps made of a cotton polyester blend, which I feel should be avoided. If the site does not mention the material there is a real possibility that it will be a polyester blend. If it sells for 25 to 35 dollars US, it is almost certainly such a blend. In the long run one might be disappointed with those caps. They will not look so good after a couple of years wear. They do not react to rain or snow nearly as well as a good wool tweed. I have a Harris tweed flatcap that I have worn for years and it still looks good.

trying to find out difference between the sewn down brim and snap brim what is better? also i have seen terms vintage and touring
@KTGHATS4 жыл бұрын
I think u mean,if the cap brim is sewn down or snapped down, right..? I’d say neither,both are exactly the same, the difference is in the look.. it’s a taste issue. When it’s snapped down, only the center part is attached, so u get this kind of pleated, snapped down look,which is kind of classical and traditional, like it’s just attached in the middle..it gives it an old timey look. and when it’s sewn down the entire peak is sewn down, so the front looks neater,more even...clean. The thing is, when it’s snapped down, there’s a little bit of hand shaping involved, u can shape the park to look flat and sewn down, or jaunt and rakish look, to one side,etc.. but the sewn down look is cleaner,and the entire front of the crown is flush to the peak..it’s cleaner looking in front,rather than classical..

Jeffrey Clarke touring usually means an ivy cap, driving cap, car cap, flat cap..all terms fo the same thing, it’s a fancy buzz word brands use to make their stuff seem more classy, British and authentic,just like,”vintage” there are two kinds of caps in the industry for the most part, Ivy caps and newsboys, and they both come slim or narrow, a lot of those marketing terms are there to entice the client, add a bit of elegance,

Newsboys and Ivys are a no go for me. I've tried them in the past and they look awful on me. Baseball caps are the same. Weird that my son looks good in those caps but bad in hats, whereas I'm the opposite of that. However, I never tried a fisherman's hat, so I picked up an old used one cheap, just to get an idea if they work or not on me. The trim on the bill is a definite no-go. However, the shorter bill works for me. The color doesn't work for me either, but again, it was just bought cheaply for reference. Having then looked at what wasn't working, I ordered a cheap used fiddler, in a more fitting color and without what I've read being called "scrambled eggs" on the bill. I think that will work a lot better for me. More subdued, less flashy, which is funny because it's the opposite with a few of my fur felt wide brims. The bill and colors of caps are what I found do not work for me. My son doesn't wear caps or hats at all, not his thing, but tried on the fisherman's cap and looks great in it. Genetics are a weird thing. Lol

Great vid - I was enchanted. Bought my first newsboy in this shop, off an English gentleman, which started my love affair with the newsboy. I've got a handful of them. I love the Stetson style as not yet brave enough to rock the chunkier versions. Quick q, I wear L but was gifted a lovely pigskin XL & couldn't return. Is there any way to get it reduced or to help with the fitting? Cheers

Yes, I use these, this product is like a padded,cotton sweatband that has a very strong sticker type adhesive on the back.peel off the backing, and place it inside the cap,on the sweatband..in back, behind your head..where the sweatband is a nice,flat surface.. it’s cotton, and fine against the skin..u might want to buy two, just in case. if u need it any tighter, layer another pad on top of the first one.

Thanks again for another great review. I ordered two caps last night. I ordered the Hatteras Glen plaid and the JJ linen Gatsby being in S florida its a bit hot for the heavier materiel. When i visit the north east ill pick up a couple more. Are those types of hats that i ordered more on the slim. Middle or puffy styles? I have a narrow face so i hope i picked the right ones. Lastly, would those hats be able to be stretches a little given their fabric? I measure a little over 56cm and thats what i ordered. Thanks for the videos you do a great job with these.

Hatteras is slimmer medium width Newsboy,modern and a perfect width for most. The JJ is wider,puffier,more like a classic old school newsboy from the 70sir 40s

Hatteras runs true to size.but the JJ runs a bit tighter . so, a medium may work or a small (and u give it a tug over your knee) .. it runs smaller (and it's a wider cut..has a snap in front too) If one is a medium.. they're typically a 57 . But these run slightly tight. So medium may be a 56 or 56.5. If u did get a small.. and it's tight..u can Stretch it over your knee carefully, till it "pops",I have a video on this. Hard to say which will work, sometimes both fit ok, one just looks baggier,one slimmer.. but Hatteras 56 is accurate.
