There are occasions for each and every one depending on the message I wish to project in my appearance or situation. The beret and forage cap within very defined parameters, obviously. The flat cap is such a classier and mature option to a ball cap. Thankfully, more people here in America are embracing them. I find it very disturbing to see how casual our society has become. People dress the same here whether they are going to church, out to dinner, or cleaning their garage. If that was not bad enough, very few people feel the need to remove their hats indoors. Almost no one who enters a restaurant removes their hat while eating. I wear some form of footwear that are not sneakers/tennis shoes, pants without holes, and a button down shirt. I am better dressed than 95 percent of the people I come across out in public. The state of peoples' dress and total lack of etiquette here in America has fallen so far from what I remember growing up in the 1970's was like. Ash, your channel is extremely relevant and informative, and you do a marvelous job on the presentation of your material. Thank you.

I have purchased 5 so far and after re-watching this video again today decided to purchase a Kangol black 100% wool #504 flat cap on Amazon, to go with my new London Fog black wool car coat. Amazon has a 7 day free trial before purchase policy for this cap which I think is good. With the trial I can make sure it fits well before purchasing. My favorite flat cap I've purchased so far is a Hannah (of Donegal Ireland) multi colored patchwork cap which I really love. The colors go with so many of my clothes and the quality is quite good & fits perfect. I am slowly putting my new wardrobe together mostly based on the information in your videos. Next up is putting the jeans aside and getting some chino type pants and a nice pair of black loafers. I live in NW USA, WA State and lots of ball caps and jeans are worn here, so I will stand out in a crowd.

Recently purchased my first flat cap and loved it so much I purchased a second one within a week. As a bald man in a hot and sunny country I have always felt the need for a hat of some sort. Baseball caps are not dressy and most are just to warm to wear, as other bald men know, laking hair also means we sweat easier. However I have found flat caps made of mesh material that solve my problem, protects my bald head from the sun while being "breathable" keeping my head more ventilated and classier than a baseball cap.

Yes I agree people seem to have lost the urge to look their best in public. I'm in the States. You can be casual and still look presentable with a little effort. Here I notice some hopeful signs among young men on the University campus who are making use of Trilby hats and Pork Pies. I'm retired and don't have as many occasions for dressing up as I once did in the business world. So the Flat Cap has become my choice for most ventures into the public. Even if just for a walk. I have a few, all tweed, and wear them every day, but my winter favourite, and the smartest, I bought from a Rastafarian market trader in Hereford who sells hats, bongs and art - and it's special: It has side-panels, but the top has a centre-seam which gives it a tailored look. But it gets better... Tucked inside is a flap which when untucked extends around the back and both sides, which is brilliant when walking the Black Mountains in high winds and frost. But it gets better... When tucked inside, that flap stiffens the sides and back, adding to the tailored look. Good quality tweed, perfect fit, practical and with a smart, tailored look - and I paid just £11 for it five years ago. I'd've been happy to pay much more, but I've never seen them anywhere else.

I'm not sure if this is simply a prop on your table, or if you occasionally smoke. I enjoyed your video and am wondering if you can let me know the maker of the first hat you tried on, the green plaid one on your left?

I’m 65 years old and live in the south east USA. I picked up several flat caps on a trip to Ireland and Scotland a few months ago. I absolutely love them. But already this year the temperature has topped 105F/40.5C. It’s impossible to wear a tweed cap in these temperatures therefore I wear various versions of the ubiquitous ball cap to protect my shinny head from the sun. I’ve tried two lightweight flat caps but my head sweats profusely in them. I’ll just long for fall and cooler weather.

I have always loved and worn hats, as you can see by my picture. The funny thing is while I've worn many hat styles I haven't worn a baseball cap since I was a kid.

Thank you for a very enjoyable presentation about a very practical and enjoyable cap. A question, though: why do many HAVE a snap on the brim?

I wear while riding my bicycle in winter, and it sheds the rain very well!

That was a very handsome man in that black fedora. Lmao! Flat caps are my daily go-to hat. I wear a black newsboy everyday.

I'll do anything to pull in the views - even resort to celebrity guest appearances.

I'm 23 now and in my final year in dental school. I started wearing a flat cap when I was 19( in my 2nd year ). Believe me, this cap became my signature everywhere I go. Some people said to me that they might not recognize me if I happened not to have my cap on. I became more attached and in love with it that there are times when my clinical supervisor had to come remove it of my head( I had worn it faced backward) while I was busy in a patient's mouth 😂🤭

Could you do a video on wearing the DEERSTALKER ?

I've just recently started wearing flat caps and it has come to my attention many men wearing them also. Thank-you for your informational video. Looking forward to building a new look. Any particular brand would you recommend?

There are so many brands out there it is hard to recommend any that stand out. My advice is to try on as many as you can - your perfect hat will reach out to you in due course!

I have a black flat cap which does a pretty good job of keeping the sun off my head yet not blowing off while cruising in my old Jeeps (baseball caps have bad aerodynamics) The problem with Fedoras, as I see it, is that a few years back it was trendy hip style for a brief while. I scrupulously avoid anything that carries a 'trendy' vibe.

In our house, baseball caps are known as IQ reducers. I have tried wearing flat caps several times in the last 60 years, but I really don't like them very much. The only time I wear a hat without a brim all round is when it is very cold and I wear my Russian fur hat.

I’ve been debating on purchasing one of these caps lately. I think they have a unique look in todays day and age. It might be nice to have one during this winter instead of only toques and baseball caps

When you see men who wear them everyday, you just forget about seeing them in anything else. We are our own worst critic. They are great spring and fall caps depending on the climate where you are.
