Him saying smart in that accent “smot” 😂😂😂… i’m from Michigan and one day I was at a gas station when I was younger working for a landscaping company and a lady couldn’t get her gas door opened, I was familiar with the car and knew the button was on the inside of the door, so I went over and showed her and in her northeastern accent said “your soooo smot thanks honey” it stuck with me and this video reminded me of her… it’s weird how you get memories like that never seen the lady before or since, but I’ll always remember that just because of the accent!

I live in Seattle,Wa now, But I grew up in Bangor Maine. It's New Year's Eve , 2024, and somehow this story popped up in my news feed. I do not believe in coincidences. My family has all passed away and I was already feeling rather melancholy. Watching this story I was immediately transported back in time to the hundreds of times I stood in that line on State Street on Friday nights eagerly anticipating my coffee pot.... It was our family supper at the end of each week and I will tell you I never ever got tired of it or wanted something else on that night. I've had many a sub sandwich but none have ever compared to a coffee pot sandwich. Every time I went home for a visit one of the first things I wanted to have was a coffee pot sandwich, a New England boiled dinner, and a huge Maine lobsta ' dipped in butta'. It wasn't just the ingredients that made the sandwich special, It was the love and the friendship that Mr Skip and the others wrapped around that sandwich that made them special. After I came out west and then would return home Mr Skip somehow always remembered my name. I grew up in the '50s and it was always such a treat to go there. It seemed there was always a line, But it didn't seem to matter because you ended up talking and catching up with someone you knew in the line, and Mr Skip was always smiling as he handed me the sandwiches, always asked how I was doing"out west"and then would ask me when I was going to " move back HOME. " I Will definitely save this video and play it often particularly when I'm missing my family And all the wonderful things and times that I remember growing up in Maine. It did seem so much simpler then, enjoying a feeling of belonging and being remembered. Well Mr Skip, I want to thank you for all those smiles And remembering me all those years ... I will watch this often and when I think of you I will always smile, and remember...

My family and I are planning to move to Bangor. I wish I could have met this man.

From a time passed when the owner was a character of sorts, and that unique presence was as much of a draw as the quality of the product sold. R.I.P Mr. Skip.

652 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401 is the new location..... Why do you post incomplete stories that can easily be finished by looking at Google maps....

Next to Bangor Savings Bank . They started off there as the "Coffee Pot Cafe" , but soon reverted to the original "Coffee Pot Sandwich Shop" . Modern decor and seating. The traditional fillings are still there , but a wider range of fillings now and priced from 6.25 to 9.95 ( versus 1.90 to 3.20 in 2009 ) . 10% off for military & first responders.

Actually I wouldn’t go there. Try Legacy Sandwich shop on Main St. in Bangor. They actually make a lot of what Skip made. I worked here for a little bit and Skip used to stop in with snacks from the Friars bakehouse after he closed his shop and just chat for a bit. I remember Skip to be such a wonderful guy.
