This Crutchie is adorable!! I love how he says "I've got personality". He definitely does! And the way he walks with the crutch is super convincing. Had I not known what the show was about before watching this, I would have thought the actor was actually in need of the crutch. His acting is on point! I also love the costumes. The ensemble matches perfectly with each other, and the main newsies each have their own kind of look. Even the kids have great costumes, and I love the inclusion of the younger kids in this show. This production is fantastic.

My biggest compmaint about Newsies on Broadway is that they couldnt cast kids (with the exception of Les). While I undestand why it was one of the things that gave the movie so.ething special. So seeing a range of ages from these kids are pretty cool.

How do the actors do a perfect Brooklyn (NYC) accent?
@ashlynnheller84005 жыл бұрын
These kids have proablly learned this album by heart. By that time doing the accent is easy.
@tracebooks5 жыл бұрын
They are doing this at a fairly high level, so I would assume a dialogue coach. Our youth theatre is doing it in July (callbacks are Friday and Saturday), and we will have a dialogue coach to nail the accents. If you search for Ben Cook Newsies, there's an interview there where he talks about the dialogue coach they used on Broadway. We've used one for every show we've needed one--we did three last school year where we needed different types of British accents: RP, Midlands, Cockney, Cornish. Adds reality and quality to a show when accents are consistent and right.

For anyone watching this to get a sense of the music for their own upcoming performance, just know that these tempos are quite a bit slower than the book calls for and slower than the provided backing tracks for practices. In fact, the backing tracks all seem to be a good 5 clicks faster than the conductor's score calls for which makes them almost 15 bps faster than the songs in this particular production.
@gianna5263 ай бұрын
This production is amazing but the slow music bothers me so much, it feels like they're slogging through it and it's harder to sustain notes better with a slower tempo so I feel like it's not helping the singers.

ive watched a bunch of videos of the schools performance, and this is an amazing group of kids but something about this number feels off. like it’s too perfectly choreographed to be a group of young kids getting ready together in the morning on their way to work. obviously the kids did an amazing job with what they were told to do, but i always saw it more as organized chaos. i’m probably just biased because that’s how we’re doing it.
