The way this song was put together was so well done! I love the use of tap dancing in King of New York. These actors all have clean sounds when they tap; these steps are almost as clean as somebody who's been tap dancing for years, and it's possible that some of these actors have never tap danced before. I can't hear any sounds out of place from the rest, and everything works smoothly together to have everyone dancing onstage. It really sounds like one dancer is onstage. Kathrine and Davey interact so well, and the way she gets them to look at the newspaper is so fun to watch. The chemistry between all the actors is present, which makes their acting even more convincing.

To each his own I guess. The fact that he lacks an accent except for on some words (something race is iconic for) is a pretty big negative for me. I don’t really see “race” when I look at him.

I don't know, it's okay, but the movie has so much more dynamic choreography that really makes it feel like the group is acting their age goofing around and naive about the greater situation unfolding. Of course, the camera angles in the movie help, but the stage play could have had the central singers do something a little more kid like and entertaining than just standing on the table the whole song. This song is so much fun in the movie, and it doesn't really live up to that here. Props is one way to achieve a more fun dynamic scene. The kids are just hanging out, so have some of them with baseball cards or playing a game with a small rubber ball that can be used in the song later. Just overcrowding the stage with tap dancers isn't the most impressive thing. There has to be more to the scene. The scene doesn't have to be flash, it needs to be layered. For example having something going on with a group in the background that is suddenly pushed to the foreground. Then something important gets all the actors doing the same actions only to break apart again at the end of the segment. Anyways the point is that there's so many things you can do with this scene to make it comparative to the scene in the movie.

There were not this many Females In The Original Broadway
@jodie84534 жыл бұрын
I think the females were a nice touch, it makes the scene seem a bit more realistic considering not all families back then had sons, some of the daughters needed to work as well.

I just recently watched Newsies movie and play for the first time, so just now getting the hype! IMO having all these girls ruins the vibe, at the very least have them wear period appropriate costumes and not matchy matchy. Looks more like a dance recital than a musical.
@Mirage_Phantom54048 ай бұрын
I agree on the time appropriate costumes, but then again this is a school not a Broadway Theater so it’s to be expected that they would improvise, but then again they could have just made them wear the same things as what The male newsies, also like that there are girls since the price raise is effecting both genders

Interesting that they changed some of the lyrics and added random females to the cast. 🤔 I myself am female but it never bothered me that the original film was male-dominant. That was realistic and based on true events. 🤷🏻♀️
