In a series of peculiar events, the BJP’s Mukesh Dalal was elected unopposed from Gujarat’s Surat Lok Sabha constituency on April 21. The declaration came days before polling even began for the elections, as Congress candidate Nilesh Kumbhani’s nomination was cancelled and eight other independent candidates “withdrew”.
Four affidavits signed by Kumbhani’s relative, a BJP lawyer, and allegations of forgery were the centre of the nomination cancellation. In the aftermath, Kumbhani went incommunicado and sparked allegations of a “collusion”.

it is very sad to see that our middle age and elder generation (40/50+) vote for BJP. Because they don't have to face much socioeconomic issues now. Their education has been completed, most have got savings, settled job and life, enough spare money for emergencies that they do not want to see facts and data. They have struggled in their youth while congress was in power and will always blame congress for their struggles. Now they don't face many challenges in daily life and want to focus on religion and emotion as what old people do, so they vote for a party who gives them religion. Getting good health, infra, jobs is not their problem anymore. They are at enough senior position that they can leave their offices to go vote but the young intern/junior doesn't even get a 2 hour leave on voting day. Naturally the voting percent will be skewed.
