They were not educated and these rich manic now are moving to foreign countries. Their religion was destroyed. Some became Hindu, Muslim, and Christian, so we do not have an exact number of them. My question to the Adivasi voices lending support to NDA and BJP is this.... 1. Have BJP govts given land to tribals in any other part of India? 2. Have they heard about the extreme levels of Gheto-isation in BJP ruled states against minorties? Never in the hisotry of India has BJP given land to any minority group. It is better to negotiate with UDF or LDF.

Your ground reports are really good. I think latter on you need to consider doing a one hour Documentary of this forest tribes in Kerala and cover all the different clan tribes. And their issues in depth since independence. Do a time scale or as per which governance was in power in states and in center. I am sure you will come up with a good narrative story line. Left parties keep on bragging about their struggle for land rights for the adivasis and poor and this is what they are doing in Kerala. They should have some shame and help these people.

They did try to take back land for this same purpose which was 'illegally held' (expired leases among others)by foreign corporates, but when it turned into a legal fight, the High Court ordered in favour of the corporates. The state government took the matter to the Supreme Court as well following this, but there was no favourable result.

The percentage of Brahmins in Kerala is just around 2%. Before the land reformations by the Left, more than 90% of Kerala's land was in the hands of the Brahmins. The Left took it and distributed among the rest of the people. Yes, the left is not perfect and need to do a lot for the Adivasis, but you can't say that they are just bragging.

@Come to *PAPA!!!!* I'm actually a follower of 'Sanathana Dharna' and not an Adivasi but yes I find it pretty disturbing that Janu has joined the BJP. Like you said it would push Sanghi ideology into the mainstream politics of Kerala which would be horrible for everyone including Hindus( whether they realise it or not). Their trick is to suck in every other person from the opposition to create this defacto one party system that can never be voted out and we have to resist that in every way. For Janu personally this was a problematic decision because in principle the BJP is at odds with every other thing the adivasis' have been fighting for. Look at that horrendous statue that was made with 3000 crores that could have been spent on better things. Many tribal people were displaced to construct it and it's disturbing that Janu chose to ignore that or ended up having to ignore it.

Having lived and worked in Wynad, albeit as a corporate agriculturalist, I have seen these Adivasis at close hand and can concur that they really live in pathetic conditions. Why this is the case is beyond me. There is a communist govt in power and big corporates with huge land holdings in Wynad. And the govt is constantly trying to wrest the land from the corporate agriculturalists. So what stops the govt from working with Adivasi activists to devise a new life for these people which encompasses their cultural ethos and accommodates their aspirations? It is very sad to see how their men have succumbed to alcoholism and the younger generation are practically strangers to many aspects of their traditional lifestyle. When I first visited Wynad as a child in the 80s and 90s, it was common enough a sight to see Panayas, Kurumbas living a very different lifestyle, wearing their traditional dress and pursuing their traditional hunting gathering lifestyle. While we cannot go backwards in time, I feel sad to see today's Adivasis devoid of their traditional pride and still lacking any amenities of modern life.
