@@DeepDishPizza Why no? Just saw your other post. The law needs to be changed to prevent squatters from moving into legally occupied homes. Just because a home is closed up for the winter or summer does not mean that it is vacant or that no one lives in it legally.

@@ej12349 Some homes get foreclosed on and banks forget out them as well. That’s exactly how we squatted. We were then awarded the house years later.

@@DeepDishPizza That is different than a squatter moving in on someone's home because they are away for vacation or a short period if time, or taking over an airbnb as their own home. That is where the law needs to change pertaining to squatters rights and homeowners rights.

Stupid comment! If you did any research, you would know that this has gone on for decades. Squatters rights have been around for centuries. The law needs to be updated to prevent squatting in homes and trying to steal them and the contents within them.

This happens all the time with land as well, between neighbors. Neighbor A plants some small trees across a property line before anyone builds on that lot, they photograph the trees being planted, keep the receipts, maybe bury a french drain across the property line as well. Then when they sell years later, they tell the buyer -- oh by the way, you will gain another acre of land in those woods over there -- all you have to do is to slowly reveal how you care for those trees and open p the daylight of those french drains so you can photograph them and make your claim in one to however many years for that state. My neighbors are trying that on me but I read the book. I moved their crap and chopped down their trees. They were on my property. Then I put up a fence and No Trespassing signs. They were trespassing. And they didnt meet the number of years to gain title through adverse possession so they lost out. So always get a survey and look for any sign of trespassing or encroachment and nip it in the bud.

The owner can then evict them. They very rarely keep the home. This some weird scare tactic video. If they want criminal punishment on “squatters” then the same applies to landlords. This guy left out a lot.

I saw that comment. Like I said in very rare situations it can happen, but it’s not the norm. A property owner would have to be neglecting the property and taxes for a long time. I just think it’s ridiculous to have a story on national television about something that really isn’t a problem.

@@jinraigami3349 so you are telling me she served them a proper notice to vacate and took the steps to go to court and when she was granted the eviction due to non payment, the sheriff came and didn’t put a notice on the door when they would be back to physically remove them from property and when they came back the police just disregarded a court order? I do not buy it. Sorry.

The wife and I squatted in a house back in 2008. The house was worth $430k at the time. No one claimed it. So the state gave us the house in 2015. We sold it in 2022 for 1.3 million.
