Take a look at the scenes of the hostages being released by Hamas to the Red Cross. So you really believe that these are partners for peace? Invite them to stay in Ireland, give them homes if you really believe that. If there is 'complicity' by much of the West, it is because they see that Hamas is much to blame for the suffering of its people. As a non-Irish person, I only see hundred percent antagonism towards Israel by the Irish parliament and zero antagonism towards rulers of Gaza.

The notion that the pain Gazans are experiencing in the present conflict - which may indeed be real and tragic - is in ANY WAY comparable to the intention and scale of the Holocaust - such that one should be mentioned in comemmoration of another - THAT is a subjective ans political opinion that had no place at the event. @@johnmartin5954 if you were commemorating deaths in a decade old war, I'd say it would be quite disrespectful to bring up modern politics and conflicts when discussing their sacrifices and lives. I am not saying you shouldn't talk about the horrific treatment of Palestinians, I am saying hijacking a memorial of others' deaths to be about the controversial topic you want to discuss is petty and you shouldn't be surprised when people don't like it.

The Holocaust is the reason for the Balfour agreement by England who were still occupying and terrorizing Ireland at that time I might add, and put European Jews in Palestine in the first place murdering tens of thousands and displacing 750,000 Palestinians in the first place in 1947.

It is not at all about the fact that the president's speech was not anti-Semitic, at the commemorative event related to the Holocaust, topics that were factually and historically connected should have been discussed exclusively. For example, saying (not only) "I hope that the other hostages will be released" really belongs to a completely different event. By the way, I'm not Jewish, just a logical thinking person.

Ireland is not pro Hamas, as you put it. Irish people, largely speaking, sympathise with the plight of the Palestinian people. That is not to say that Ireland supports Hamas.

@@RhonaDavis-lz3qp To be fair, something has to be conceded to the Palestinians, if only Israeli citizenship and a right to keep their property. But a Palestinian state is unrealistic at this stage and it’s irresponsible of Ireland and Spain to recognise it now when Israel is finally finishing it off.
