Japan's rockets, specifically the H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV) nicknamed "Kounotori" (White Stork), docked at the International Space Station (ISS) by using a system of automated rendezvous and docking maneuvers, delivering cargo to the station as a part of their contribution to the ISS program; the HTV was launched on Japan's H-IIB rocket and would approach the ISS carefully before docking with a designated port using a series of guidance systems and mechanical latches. Docking process: The HTV would approach the ISS autonomously, using sophisticated guidance systems to align itself perfectly with the docking port before engaging with mechanical latches to secure the connection.
