I love how he isn't a very heroic hero - not particularly obtrusive, but a protagonist who instead just falls into a plot and tries to do the right thing wherever he can. It's really great. Also, I love your annotations, they were fantastic.

In his own way, he is very heroic. He's afraid of no animal, no matter how big and fierce, and he was the only one who recognized who Graves was - before capturing him. Make no mistake, Grindelwald hates him, and dare I say it, fears him. Newt is a lot more powerful than the others give him credit for being.

As you watch the Harry Potter series you have to wonder at why no one seems to be aware of the abuse of a child 🤔. It isn't just Voldemort either, it's Severus Snape, Lucius Malfoy and Delores Umbridge do as much damage as the Dursleys, if not more. If I were to take this out of context, the entire series is about abuse and attempting murder of a minor. It is a very dark story the thing that saves it is magic and our desire for magic to be real. The Fantastic Beast series is about adults and magic. It is not going to be quite as dark but it is headed that way if they remove the characters Newt and his affinity for creatures out of the movies.

The “salamanders” scene with Newt and Tina always gets me. Anyone else would find that line extremely weird or maybe even insulting (as seen with Jacob’s initial reaction) but Tina understands Newt. She knows it’s a compliment and that he is trying to show his adoration for her.

Newt's character has to be the best in the entire Harry Potter universe other than maybe Fred and George. He refused to be made to pick a side and only chose one because he wanted to protect his friends while also honoring Leta by standing against Grindelwald thus remembering her sacrifice. He was loyal to everyone he met, and as Leta so beautifully put it, "you never met a monster you couldn't love." I can't wait to see even further character development in future movies.

What I love about Newt being the male protagonists for this story is that he is so refreshingly unique from other protagonists and displays masculinity in such a real and genuine way. He isn’t over confident or cocky. He isn’t rude or selfish. These are fatal flaws you usually see in most protags, but not Newt. He’s kind, humble, genuine, caring, sweet, good natured. That’s how any guy should be, and that’s what Newt is.

I like all of Newt's solo moments and I think it says a lot about him. He has his beasts with him and doesn't need to hang out with other humans if he doesn't like them. And although I do really like Jacob, I like the scene from Crimes of Grindelwald where Theseus and Newt lower their wands to the ground at the same time. It's like that scene was to make sure that audience remembers that these two are brothers.
