The German museum in Munich has a somewhat large cradle works like this. Its cheat with partial unelasticity material und noneven mass distributing and magnets in the base. Everybody only walk by and not think about it.

Of course Hooke did this with 3 balls long before Newton and was laughed out of the Royal Society. Much like his theory of gravity and planetary motion while Newton played with his alchemy.
