John Newton was a troubled young man with a violent temper and a penchant for vulgarity that literally made his fellow sailors blush. Whipped for desertion and sold into slavery, it seemed his life would end early in a West African grave...until he was rescued by a ship captain sent by his father.
Following a powerful conversion experience during a storm at sea, Newton would eventually become a pastor in the Church of England and the writer of several of the church's most beloved hymns, including "Amazing Grace."
But before that, Newton, the former slave, was appointed captain of a slave ship himself. In an age when human bondage was considered the norm, it would take time for Newton's conscience to be thoroughly transformed. But Newton came to hate the slave trade, becoming a spiritual leader in the fight to end slavery.
Newton's Grace is the true story of a real "Prodigal Son," the story of miraculous forgiveness and change that lies behind the powerful words of one of the world's most beloved hymns.

So are we saved because we believe Jesus paid the wages for our sins or because we repent for our own sins. It can't be both. And since Jesus is alive how did he pay our sin debt which is eternal death?

My husband in our early life together shared Amazing Grace with me. I loved this Hymn and it was played as requested by me at his funeral. It has been a year and a half ago. I honor him by watching this movie and will save it in my heart in his memory (and it brought me to tears). I love you Michael in Heaven and I pray to join you again one day. I was a wayward youth myself until i met God at age 29. It was a series of spiritual interaction with several Divine Beings since then and i found my professional purpose from them. Now 61, poor and unsuccesful as i may be on this day, the rich oligarchs running our country would hardly understand what real Joy there can be in our lives with God. Just saw this 2023.When I was 1st saved about 30yrs ago& I am almost 69 now , my Sunday school class would sing just a couple of the verses, I had no idea that there were more verses, so I wrote A verse about thanking God. After sharing it I was told about how long this song is. But I was still thankful for God's saving me by his Grace & Mercy.

Thank you so much for this portrayal of Newton's amazing life. The Lord wanted him to write Amazing Grace. I grew up with that precious hymn, as did my mother, grandmother, and all my ancestors. I'm from Malaysia and here in Church, I have always sung this song with tears in my eyes. This song was also sung by a Pastor at my dad's funeral 8 years ago. How poignant to know that such a song has travelled over two centuries to our present day and age to so many cultures in different languages. I'm so blessed to see this movie and how Amazing Grace originated. I have a profound new respect for Mr. John Newton and what he did regarding the slave trade together with Wilberforce. Since becoming a Christian in 1997, I had always loved the song, Amazing Grace. I had read a book by Leonardo de Vinci that brought me to reviewing my life's needs, goals. From this, I determined that Religion, Family, Music, Water, and Customs were an integral part of my life, and a 'Logo' that I created.. A 'HEART'... representing my heart... inside of which... A 'Musical Staff' and notes relating to the first 5 notes of Amazing Grace; An 'ANCHOR' which represents my love of water (raised in Michigan... swimming, skiing, and 28 years in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Oceans)... the anchor's stock (near the top of the shank) represented the Cross of Jesus Christ... was chained to my heart, revealing that I am 'Anchored in Christ'; The 'SCRIPTURE' reference to Jeremiah 29:11-13, which was my current 'Life Time Scripture'; and lastly, a 'Globe' representing the earth. On the land mass, there was a speck of white, the rest of the land was dark. The white speck represented the 'Balcony People' in my life... the family and friends that supported me. The rest represented the ones that were the 'Basement People' - the ones that tried to slow me down. This aspect of my life, related to the successes in my life... retired from the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Postal Service, and The Home Depot. Most importantly, though, was my conversion to being a 'Born Again Christian'. Thank You Jesus Christ. Thank You, John Newton, for your precious lyrics. This has inspired me to have several books in the process of documenting Hymns located in the Scriptures. Lord willing, to be given to the world before our being returned to the Lord Jesus Christ. Yes that is true. However I would still like to see his story through an Adult’s Story....(more Hollywood Style-with MORE Oooooooooompth), this was more the LESS CLEANER SIDE of his life. The Actors seemed to find it impossible to LOOK & act MEAN & Scary....& contrary to how ‘Newton actually was’....he was portrayed as NICE.....& Innocent-but this wasn’t so.....HE Bullied & Tortured Slaves on ships....& the women, oh, the women. Everytime I feel the Rage, the hatred, the murderous Anger within -I put that on & have on repeat the Whipping Scene & the ‘Nailing to the Cross’ Scene.....It brings me SUCH COMFORT to know, he did that for me & to SEE someone SUFFERING FOR ME to feel for me in my pain from the past.... I feel Holy Spirit MOVE ME to see DIFFERENTLY to the way the ‘bible portrays everything in such a black and white ONE SIDED way.’ I know full well, that NO Ordinary Church Building Christian will understand ANY of this & will try to Bible Bash my Experience..... Sons of the great red dragon, listen to Me! I came from Zion and incarnated on earth to gain My firstborn sons, to shame your father (these words are addressed to the descendants of the great red dragon), to help My first-born children, and correct the wrongs done to My first-born children. In the past, My children were intimidated and oppressed, and since the Father holds power for the children, My children will return to My loving embrace, never to be intimidated and oppressed again. More importantly, this is the only way that will allow My first born children to reign with Me in power.) Almighty God said DISASTERS in the WORLD are INTENSIFYING EVERY DAY, and in My HOME, severe disasters are intensifying. People have REALLY NOTHING to HIDE, NO PLACE they can hide THEMSELVES. Because the CHANGE is HAPPENING NOW, PEOPLE do not KNOW where they will step NEXT. It will only be revealed after My judgment. Remember! 😪 These are the steps in My work, and this is the way I work. For ALL My FIRSTBORN CHILDREN, I will comfort them one by one, I will RAISE them step by step; as for the servants, I will remove and abandon them one by one. 🙏 ☀️ This is a part of My management plan. After all the servants have been revealed, My firstborn children will also be revealed. (For Me, this is very easy. AFTER THEY HEAR My WORDS, ALL the SERVANTS will gradually retreat BEFORE THE JUDGMENT and threat of My WORDS, and ONLY My FIRSTBORN CHILDREN will be left. 🙏 It is not a voluntary thing nor can it be changed by human will; rather, it is My Spirit personally working.) This is not a distant event, and you should somehow and must infer it from within this phase of My work and My words. Why I will speak so much and the unpredictability of My expressions is beyond people's understanding. I SPEAK to My FIRST CHILDREN in a TONE of COMFORT, COMPASSION, and LOVE (Because I always illuminate these people and never forsake them, because I consigned them), as I SUBJECT people APART from My FIRSTBORN CHILDREN in SEVERE JUDGMENT, in THREATS, and INTIMIDATION, which MAKES them ALWAYS AFRAID to the POINT where they are ALWAYS NERVOUS. ☀️ When the SITUATION REACHES a certain POINT, they will ESCAPE from this CONDITION (when I destroy the world, these people will go to the eternal deep), but they will NEVER ESCAPE My HAND in JUDGMENT, and they will NEVER FREE from this SITUATION. ☀️ This, THEN, is their JUDGMENT; this is their CHASTISEMENT. On the DAY the FOREIGNERS COME, I WILL REVEAL these PEOPLE one by one. These are the steps in My work. Now, do you understand the purpose behind My previous utterances of those words? In My opinion, something that has not been fulfilled is also something that has been fulfilled, but something that has been fulfilled does not necessarily mean something that has been achieved. This is because I have My wisdom, and I have My way of doing things, which people really cannot understand. When I have achieved results in this step (when I have revealed all those who are evil against Me), I will start the next step, because My will is unstoppable and no one dares to hinder My plan of management and nothing dares to put obstacles - they must get out of the way! If not for God's Amazing Grace to send his Son Jesus Christ to die for my sins I would be bound by satan & on my way to hell. Praise God the Father,the Son & the Holy Spirit for that Amazing Grace. The movie was very moving and I know one day I will see Mr Newton in heaven. Raise God for men like him.
